“A city filled with experienced unicorns… and you choose me as your mentor? Hehe... Me? Crystal Lance?” She could not help but let out an uncontrollable laugh among the raving crowd of ponies. There had been reasons for why she was forced to retire from her position as head of the Equestrian Army Mages and this situation had just been too much of an irony.
"Ha... That's just too good..." At the same time the music atop Starsong's stage quieted down in the closing of her song, Crystal's hysterical snicker began to calm itself down as well. "Listen filly... If you want "training", find one of those spineless Equestrian Army Mages. If you want to actually better yourself as a mage, take a couple of years to grow up. Until then... try to enjoy the music."
She gave Apporta no opportunity to respond. The second she finished her words, Crystal had turned off and fled into the obscuring crowd of ponies. She made collision after collision, but eventually made it pretty deep into the concert's audience. Though she had probably lost Apporta by this time, Crystal had been sticking out like a sore hoof from the perspective of anypony on top of the stage.
((OOC: Retconned! Don't worry Apporta, you'll get your training.))

To say that Apporta was shocked would be a gross understatement. She thought it was going so well with the new pony. Yet her glass dreams were quickly shattered yet again. Not only was she laughed at by this pony, but Crystal told her to grow up. There were hundreds of words that floated through Apporta's head when she heard that: Imperfect, Damaged, Hopeless. Did all ponies think of her that way, even Princess Luna? Did they see her as just another foolish unicorn with delusions of granduer?
Before Apporta could say anything, Crystal lance took off, leaving apporta in an even worse state: alone. All the ponies around her were having a great time listening to the music. Yet now Apporta felt like dirt. She made her way to the back of the crowd in silence as tears rained from her eyes. There in the back she could cry all she wanted to, and no pony would care. It was not like they cared about her anyway she thought.

Angel Grace shrunk back as the crowd roared. She was happy to be here, listening to this music; she surprised herself with how much she enjoyed it. Would she like to get up there and join Starsong? Yes, she would, quite a bit. But not in front of everypony. And besides, there were plenty of volunteers...and was that Rainbow Dash hovering over the crowd? Angel gawked, hardly believing it. After all of this time, after managing to avoid the weather pony despite living in Ponyville, she had to be right here, right now? Well, she could forget about being on stage, she had to get out of here. She backed up some more...right into the moving mass of ponies. Looking up, she found her escape route blocked by more ponies and pegasi. Her movements began to grow wild as it occurred to her, not only was Rainbow Dash here, but she was completely surrounded by ponies.
Panting now in panic, she moved left and right, trying desperately to escape the crowd. "P-please, let me though...please...excuse me...let me out..."

"No problem!" Ranger called at her, before the music stopped and he nimbly avoided a Pegasus making her way frantically through the crowd. Talk about a panic attack. Though he had to admit large crowds were a rather claustrophobic experience, and Starsong must have attracted half of Equestria!
He moved over to Trace again, bumping her with his side, "Hey, put your hooves on my back, that way she'll see you and you can get up there!" Then deciding it was a waste of time to wait for her to figure it out, he ducked beneath her front, lifting her up on his back so that she was visible above the crowd.

Trace was distracted by the Pegasus mare as she tried to flee from the crowd, and did not register what Ranger had said right away. Then she noticed him duck down, and as she turned to ask him what he was doing, she felt her hooves get lifted off the ground. Her eyes went wide with the initial shock and fear of the ground disappearing and gave an audible gasp before realizing what happened and she glared down at the stallion.
"Ranger, Sug'. Just what the hay do you think you're doin'? Put me down!" Trace scolded from upon his back, "Ah don't want ta' go up. Let one of the younger ponies have their fun."

The second Starsong announced she was going to get ponies from the crowd involved, Rainbow Dash made her way towards the stag, pushing aside distracted pegasi. "Here! Here! Pick me! Starsong! Pick me!" she shouted, arriving in the first row. She just had to get on that stage with her favorite musician. But what if she completely messed it up? No big deal, she thought to herself - nopony actually expected the Best Young Flyer to be a good singer, too, so she was either going to rock them out of their socks, or get recognized for her other talents and cheered at anyway.

Starsong simply couldn't hold back the laugh as the watched the ponies clamour for her attention. Oh, it was a magnificent sight! Just what she'd always dreamed of! Pacing around the stage in her limelight for a few more moments, the popstar pony made her final decisions before returning to her standing microphone.
"Alright everypony, I think I know who will be joining me onstage!" She announced, hoping the crowd would subside a little, allowing the pegasus to be heard properly. Scanning the crowd to find her victims, Starsong quickly spotted Rainbow Dash. "Who better than the best Young Flyer in Equestria? Rainbow Dash, get those flanks up here!" Called the mare, pulling an outstretched hoof towards herself to illustrate joining her. Continuing, Starsong picked out a few more faces, "hmm... you there, the brown pony with the silver mane, up in the air? Get up here! Oh! And is that the famous Crystal Lance I spy at the back there? You should hop right on up here and say hello! I'm sure a pony like you appreciates good music~"
Having snapped up a few faces from the crowd, Starsong could only wait and hope they would actually join her. As much as the spotlight was hers right now, she needed to fill her stagetime with something other than the one song she had written. A few subtle gestures with her hooves instructed the security guards dotted around the outskirts of the crowd to try and clear a path for the others, lest they have to fight their way through the onslaught of other ponies. Dash could probably have flown over the others, should she choose to join Star - and by the sounds of her overbearing cheers, the pegasus wanted to - but security cleared the way regardless.

Crystal was truly shocked, so much that her mouth had then been left totally agape. Prior to this, she had felt fairly secure among the large crowd of ponies. Now it suddenly seemed as if she had caught the attention of every single pony around her. Her name had just been yelled out loud onstage! Crystal swiftly turned her head, glancing across from each of the ponies surrounding her and generally finding mixed responses. Some ponies seemed surprised… other ponies appeared to be as energetic as ever… but everypony had been pushing her in the direction of Starsong’s makeshift stage.
“Hey…! Stop that! WATCH IT, you foals!” Crystal shouted as she was carried across the large crowd. Before she knew it, she had been brought to a wide and open space held by the concert’s security guard ponies. Ugh… There’s nothing else to do, so I guess… Crystal thought to herself reluctantly. She trotted the path created by the security ponies until she arrived to the top of the stage.
Atop the stage, the mare first took a glance toward Starsong. Crystal usually held an unfair prejudice against most pegasi, but this one seemed to be okay. It was only the more athletic of pegasi Crystal really held grudges against anyway. Those were the types that reminded her of her stepfather… somepony she absolutely hated to be reminded of. But no… Starsong did not appear to be that type of pegasus at all. She was alright in her book. Crystal slowly trotted on toward the popstar pony, clear of any prejudgment.
She glanced over the crowd before the stage, still remaining in silence. Crystal was not familiar with this sort of partying environment at all... and she honestly didn't know what to say. Nevertheless she kept her cool, placing a somewhat apathetic gaze over Starsong's audience of ponies.

In the midst of her crying Apporta just happened to look up at the stage. There was Crystal Lance, standing next to Starsong. Immediately a wave of anger spread through the unicorn. Had Crystal no compassion? She just treated Apporta like garbage and now was up on a stage like it never happened.
Apporta was about to turn away from the stage in disgust and head back home where she could wallow by herself, but then she realized that she could not be seen as some weak pony. Not in front of Crystal Lance, not in front of anypony. She needed to toughen up and stand her ground or be forever rejected by possible mentors and other ponies.
She dried her eyes and enjoyed the sounds of the concert and the cheering ponies. If Crystal Lance would miraculously accept her, that would be great. If not, she could always find another way. There were endless opportunities and ponies to meet.

An ominous dark shadow shifts across the lonely pathways and empty streets of Canterlot. A dark unicorn, with a coat darker than night, had just returned from a trip to the local Canterlot bookstore. With dark green saddlebags filled to the brim with books of all isoteric and cryptozoological information dandgling on his sides StarShade makes his way carefully across Canterlot. The black unicorn periodically turned his head from side to side as he assesed his surroundings, confused by the strange loneliness and silence around him. It was strange indeed. Normally, Canterlot's pathways and streets always had ponies walking to and fro from time to time, and StarShade had to move around under the cover of shadows and behind objects in order to avoid frightening away other ponies with his sinister-looking appearence. The black unicorn was able to move around freely under the sun and out in the open today, but it still made him feel uneasy. It was only until he heard the loud singing and cheering ahead that the feeling of uneasiness began to dissipate. Being the curious pony he always was, the black unicorn broke into a gallop and headed towards the source of the voices.
There could've been hundreds of ponies gathered there! And they were all jumping and cheering and stamping their hooves in enjoyment at the performance of a delightful singer onstage, who was none other than the well-known and super-famous Starsong! StarShade could only stare with a gapping jaw as he neared the mass of ponies who were all enthralled by the great singer. Normally the black unicorn wouldn't dare going near towards any crowd, but this was something out of the ordinarry. Plus, his curiosity wouldn't just let him miss something like this.
"Starsong?" he asked in surprise, not intending to get an answer, "Here?" Of course, nopony answered. Everypony else was so focused at the enchanting singer onstage that none even noticed the scary-looking black unicorn as he slowly went closer. At first StarShade just stood there silently, watching the events onstage. A few moments later, Starsong began callng ponies from the crowd to join her up on the stage, a move which caused the masses of ponies to jump and shake like a massive tidal wave. StarShade watched as a colourful pegasus named Rainbow Dash was called up to join Starsong on the stage. The black unicorn stood in anticipation, interested as to who the singer was going to call up next and totally forgetting his fear for large crowds and attention. For a while, he felt like any other ordinarry pony, and it was a nice feeling. It was the next pony's name which made StarShade jump up with loud surprised gasp (kind of like Pinkie Pie did when she first met Twilight Sparkle), landing back on his hoves with a low clop. There, being led (or forced) to the stage was Crystal Lance!
"Crystal Lance!" the name gasped from StarShade's widely-gapping mouth, "Canterlot's Master Battle Mage! She's here! She's there!"
He watched the classy-looking unicorn as she made her way towards the stage in her shiny neckwear, stylish horseshoes and lovely green cape. Crystal Lance has always been like an idol to StarShade, and he had always wanted to meet her. And now there she is, climbing up the stage! StarShade was about to do something he has never done for a long time. Like a living shadow, the black unicorn moved through the masses of crazed pony fans, repeatedly saying "Excuse me!" and "Oops, sorry!" as he occasionally bumped them with his saddlebags full of books while trying to cut through a path. The other ponies were totally oblivious to his presence, so enthralled were they by the appearence of Starsong along with Rainbow Dash and Crystal Lance. This was good news for StarShade, as the black unicorn finally made his way towards near the front of the stage and stared, with huge and shiny eyes of awe and respect, at Crystal Lance as she stands magnificently on the stage.

Princess Luna sat in the box reserved for members of Equestrian Royalty, sitting and admiring the modest amount of ponies that Starsong was able to gather in one place. Luna had always figured that most of Canterlot was too stuffy or high-classed to attend such a showing, but it appeared that Starsong wasn't just some pony.
On either side of her were highly trained Equestrian Royal Guards, A devoted group of Unicorns and Pegasi trained to protect the Equestrian Royalty. Each one wore a glistening coat of finely crafted mail which deflected some of the most powerful spells and weapons ponykind had to offer, and lances they were trained to use with deadly efficiency.
Luna herself felt quite safe next to these ponies that would risk their life for her safety, and she felt that she had ample power to defend herself should a situation arise where she would need to fight.
As Starsong called Crystal Lance and Rainbow Dash up to the stage, Luna grinned somewhat and continued listening to the show.

(Angel is out)
It seemed as if she had her big chance. Angel slipped between the other ponies as they swarmed the stage, trying to get closer to Starsong. She had managed to calm herself slightly, but her heart was racing as she left the concert. She shouldn't have come here, she knew that now. She cast a glance over her shoulder as the crowd roared again. At least they weren't laughing at her...she trotted off into the darkness. Time to go home.

Ranger cheered happily, bouncing in the air to cause Trace to lose her balance and land on his back, then paving his way to the stage. Oh no, he wasn't going to let Trace off the hook, she was going up to that stage! Quickly hopping up the steps, he dropped her gently next to Starsong, saying, "Here you go, never say I'm not a good riding horse!" He grinned happily behind his mask, excited that he got to take Trace here AND that she was able to come up on stage with Starsong herself. This was fabulous.

He wasn't listening to her. Why wasn't he listening? Trace opened her mouth to speak but only ended up squeaking as she was bounced and carried up to the stage. "Sug', wait! Ah don... put me... wait, stop.. R-ranger!" Trace helplessly tried to reason with the buck, but it seemed to be pointless as she was dumped onto the stage.
She glared, but smiled, at the masked pony, "Thanks." She sat and looked at the others on the stage with her, then out at the audience. 'Great. I'm going to make a foal of myself up here...' she thought to herself.

Before Starsong had even finished the sentence, only the start of a rainbow-colored contrail was left where the blue pegasus had hovered moments ago. The end of it was in front of one of the security ponies who had decided she was coming in a bit too fast and stopped her in her tracks by shoving a hoof into her chest with a disapproving look on his face, leaving her hooves wiggling desparately towards the stage. After making sure the cocky pegasus wouldn't ram his employer, the bulky pony gave way and let Rainbow Dash to her favorite singer. The blue pegasus ignored the other two ponies from the crowd that had been called onto the stage - she didn't know them, although the unicorn in a typical Canterlot-look seemed to be fairly famous around here - and galloped right to Starsong. "This is so cool!"
