As he stirred his coffee Glide continued her rambling. Her backstory must have been rather amusing to hear from an outsider point of view. Though she was obviously omitting plenty of it. His question though seemed to dig deeper. She was happy to oblige to his request to know more. Maybe somewhere deep inside of her she was in fact more vain than she originally thought. "Yes, I grew up in Ponyville, had a happy going family life and a job at the local hospital. Everything was going my way until it was attacked and the war became an all to real reality."
She wondered just how close Dusk here had gotten to the war. Just how involved he had gotten and if he had lost anyone or anything. Then she remembered what he had said about his house. They sat here sipping coffee and talking all about her meanwhile he wasn't even sure if he had a home anymore. She didn't want to ruin their conversation, however she didn't want to keep him very long either. "Dusk, aren't you more concerned about your house than some stranger you ran into on the sidewalk?

"Heh. You'd be surprised at how often I run into somepony that... causes my current priorities to change. Or at least recently." He shrugged, thinking back to his recent escapades. Especially the one with the cult. "But you do have a point, I don't want to have to leave another home behind."
As soon as the words left his mouth, did he begin regretting them. It's not a part of his life he likes talking about. Mentally, he was beating himself up over that slip-up. However, outwardly his expression had gone from looking cheerful, to upset and slightly frustrated. But there was no going back now. The information was out there. He was just preparing himself for her to ask.

Glide wasn't totally blind and ill-educated on the ways of other ponies. She knew the moment he said his comment about leaving behind another home that it was a tender spot. Her assumptions were solidified by the fact that his seemingly normal chipper and cheerful self disappeared at the slightest thought. The question stood however, does she dig further? She had already given up a lot of information about herself, sensitive stuff at that. Her inner self told her it was only fair if she knew more about him.
However, her compassion still lied prominent within her. She knew not to pick at open wounds and dig up harsh memories unless totally necessary. Therefore, her decision was not that hard to simply pretend she did not notice his change in demeanor and continue on with their conversation. Perhaps sometime when he was more willing, he would tell her without the asking. "Well, perhaps we ought to head towards your house then and insure its safety?" She asked moving the conversation right along and avoiding the sensitive subject of his past.

The surprise he felt when she didn't ask clearly showed. It took him a moment to fully comprehend what she asked. "Oh. Um. S-sure." He spluttered. He was feeling rather awkward with this conversation, and tried to think of a way to make it less so.
"Alright, let's go. Though, we still need to pay." Forcing a smile to make himself look like his usual cheery self, he pulled out a few bits. "This should help cover the costs for the drinks." Once they've paid and got up to go did he continue. "My house is south-east of here. It'll take a bit to get there."
Dusk led the way, heading back the way he had come when he ran into his new friend. A couple blocks away the roads weren't as crowded. "You've told me a bit about yourself, so it's only fair I told you a bit about myself." He said with a sigh.
"I was born and raised in Canterlot. My parents were very controlling. As a result I didn't have many friends." His contempt creeping into his voice. "They would lock me in my room often. Eventually I got sick of it, and I managed to sneak away one night. Since then I haven't had any contact with anyone I knew in Canterlot."

She huffed gently as he pulled out the money to pay for the coffee as she had clearly said she was going to. Casting him a playful glare she stood up, thanked the lady and followed him down the street. she noticed his smile return once more but this time it did not seem to come easily. Forcing a smile showed he was still upset about what ever had come to his mind moments ago. "Lead the way good sir, and please avoid colliding with more ponies on the way." She snickered, making a joke in attempt to brighten his mood. She looked about as the strolled towards where his house hopefully still stood enjoying the scenery and wondering to herself what it was that had upset this seemingly charming pony.
When he said that it was only fair of him to tell his story her blazing curiosity was settled, though she felt guilty for it. It was his past and he didn't have to tell it, yet she was happy he decided to anyway. She immediately felt saddened hearing about his childhood, being locked away and not having many friends. His anger towards his family and his old home life clearly showing in his more harsh tone of voice. She knew what it was like all to well to not have a good relationship with family. Hearing his story reminded her of her own past which filled her with sadness. "I too didn't have a very nice home life my family was split, my father died when i lived in ponyville. I moved here with my self centered mother and her low down swindling husband. I left as soon as I could and made it to Canterlot medical school.." She trailed off, realizing she was once again stealing the spotlight.

Hearing about her own childhood calmed him down a bit and he looked at her with an intrigued expression. Though, he was a bit ashamed that he had bottled up so much rage at his parents, although, he didn't let it show. Slowly, he regained his composure, and by the time he had, neither of them had spoken for a few minutes. And on top of that, they were only a couple blocks away from his home.
"Well, we're almost there." He said with a more cheerful tone, in an attempt to move the conversation away from the more somber topics. "Thank you for this Glide. Even if my house was destroyed in the attack, I could rebuild. It would take some time, but it'll get done." A determined spark flaring in his eyes.

Glide saw his muscles relax, she seemed to have taken his mind off of what was bothering him which she was glad for. She missed helping ponies first hand, she joined the air force to do just that, and it had been awhile since she saw first hand if she was helping someone. The idea of calming someone again made her feel better as well. As for his house, she worried about what he would do if it was destroyed like a good bit of Manehatten was. Even if it wasn't destroyed there was always the possibility that looters got there before he did. She hadn't even thought about looters until just now. She wondered in the back of her head just how many poor ponies lost things that held precious memories or treasures with looting and pilfering. Knowing the diamond dogs, and precious gems would surely be long gone.
At Dusks' apparent determination at rebuilding his life, Glide couldn't help but smile. Such gusto was a refreshing break from the depression that seemed to go everywhere around Equestria. "Well if it is destroyed where will you stay until repairs can be made? You can't very well sleep out on the sidewalk."

Dusk was taken by surprise by Glide's question. Not just because he didn't expect it, but because he hadn't really thought of it himself. Externally, he continued to walk alongside her with his determined look unchanged. However, internally, he was incoherently screaming in panic.
Only once he managed to get his thoughts under control, was he able to formulate a coherent sentence. "I- I don't have anywhere else to stay. But, I'm sure I can come up with something. There are a few ponies I know that might be willing to lend a helping hoof."
While he seemed sincere, he certainly lied about the last part. The ponies that he knew around the city weren't really willing to help him. That's how they tend to do things though. They hire you for a job, you do it, then you don't see or hear from them again until they need you again.

Glide sensed Dusk's hesitation in his voice, everypony had a tell that they were lying. One thing was for certain he seemed to be able to contain himself fairly well. Though his problems put Glide in a tough spot as well. Her caring nature would not let her simply shrug off this poor pony who's house was perhaps destroyed. Even if she had just met him, through unusual means. She felt for him, to the point her mind got to work trying to figure out where the poor guy could stay. His seeming mask of optimism was not shared by her and she planned for the worst. Such was her usual way, plan for the worst and hope for the best.
"This City doesn't exactly seem like it's full of helpful ponies, even after a disaster like it's been through. Big cities have a reputation for being an every pony for themselves kind of place." she said, calling his bluff. He had even told her earlier that he had always been bad at making friends. Smirking softly to herself she trotted in front of him and stopped him in their path. She raised a brow growing a bit more serious. "If what lies ahead isn't what you hope, I'll be here to help you okay? I'm sure there's something around here set up to aid those victims of the attack."

"Heh, True. Most ponies here tend to look out for themselves." He replied, carrying on without much worry, or at least it seemed that way. "I've met a few ponies around the city that might be willing to help. And if not, then I'll figure something out. I mean I was living on the street when I first arrived in this city."
At this point they were turning onto the street where his home lied. The damage here wasn't much different. However, he saw that his house was still standing. There were chunks taken out of the building, and a few of the windows were shattered, but it was still there. Battered and beaten, but still standing. The sight of it turned the fake smile on Dusk's face into the real thing.

Glide wasn't exactly sure which building she was looking at was his though they all for the most part still stood tall. She looked over to him and saw his smile, she knew it wasn't the grievous forced smile she became accustomed to seeing in these dark times between grieving families and her own "sympathetic" ship mates. His genuine smile told her that his home still stood which instantly lifted a weight off her heart. This pony she had made friends with in a very unexpected way was not as adversely effected by this war as she had feared. Though his comment of being on the streets when he first came here made her sad for him, that was quickly brushed aside.
She leaned over and nudged his shoulder with his elbow to break his silence. "I take it by that silly grin on your face that your humble abode still stands?" She chuckled gently to herself and tilted her head gently with a cocked eyebrow awaiting his reply.

"That it does, my friend. That it does." Unfurling his wings, he excitedly glides over to his house. Hovering in front of the building, he takes a closer look at the extent of the damage. "Look's like a few windows were smashed in. Some chunks taken out of it. Nothing I can't deal with though."
He floats there in silence for a few minutes, as he thinks about the cost of repairs and replacing anything that might have been stolen. There wasn't really much of value in the house, or at least what could be found easily. Anything that would have been stolen could be replaced without too much hassle. "The biggest thing will be the cost of the windows," he mutters under his breath.
In his excitement, he had forgotten about his companion. Something he quickly remembered after hearing her shuffling. He snapped around at the unexpected noise. "Oh, Glide. It seems like none of this is anything I can't deal with." He landed on the ground in front of her, his gratefulness clearly showing. "I- Thanks Glide. Thanks for the company."

She smiled and sat back while he inspected his home and looked for any extensive damage. She could see the furthest extent of the damage was external, the windows and a few pieces of the exterior wall. Looters would have undoubtedly been through here, but those were just material things that could more than likely be replaced. She knew what it was like to lose a home and she was very happy her new friend wouldn't have to go through such an experience here. When he made his way back down her smile had not left her face.
"Any time, that's what friends are for right?" She asked while looking over the rest of the building, it seemed everyone who lived there had suffered the same amount of damage as well. Now though she was more curious about what remained inside, hopefully he hadn't been looted to badly. Glide didn't want to invite herself inside because that would be very rude but she also didn't want to go back to her empty hotel room now, the last thing she needed was to be alone.

"I wonder if I'm gonna have to pay for repairs?" Dusk asked to no one in particular. "Because I'm pretty sure I don't have enough to cover it. How many jobs will it take to get enough money to pay for all that?" For several minutes he continues to ramble about what it'll take to get the money for repairs and replacing everything. The longer it continued the quieter his ramblings became until he was just muttering to himself.
Without any warning, his muttering just stopped, and he looked at one of the broken windows. "I suppose I won't really be able to calculate the cost of fixing this until I see what happened on the inside." No sooner had he finished that sentence, before he whipped around and looked Glide Heart right in the face with an expression of warm acceptance. "Hey Glide, would you like to come inside? I might still have some supplies to make some tea."
Not even waiting for an answer, he walked up to door. Removing his hat, he fiddled around with the inside of it, clearly looking for something. A satisfied look showed he had gotten what he was looking for, and from his hat he pulled out a small key.

Glide simply stood beside Dusk while he rambled on with himself, talking like that was one sure fire way to work through a problem and he had one heck of a problem on his hooves. She'll admit shes caught herself rambling on to the air around her when she was lost in heavy thought. She found it kind of amusing to watch him mutter on with himself like that. Not quite like a psych ward patient but close enough to be funny rather than concerning. When he whipped around with the look of almost pure exhilaration in his eyes it kind of caught her off guard and made her jump slightly. Man this pony moved quickly.
She gave a little laugh and smiled in reply, mostly laughing at herself for jumping. "Tea sounds lovely I'd be glad to come in" she replied sounding a little to formal for her liking. Glide stood up from where he had been sitting on the sidewalk and followed him to the door, looking over his shoulder to see what it was he was fiddling with in the brim of his hat. She thought to herself that hiding a key in the brim of your hat, when said hat goes everywhere with you was a brilliant idea. Made her wonder how panicked he became when and if the wind blew it away from him.
