The dog-masked pony looks over the edge of the catwalk. That would be a very nasty fall for anyone not a pegasus. Then add horrible storms.
"Are there safety mechanisms in place here?"

(Selenia is now in her specific 'happy place' in the mansion, so she won't be replying until everyone else has found theirs and Red advances the plot)

So Selenia was the name of the mare who volunteered to remain at the library. Their hostess was certainly liberal about releasing the names of her guests. It made the whole idea behind the masquerade seem pointless. Oh well, at least Selenia was pleased with the library as it was clearly her reason for being here.
Gale listed five destinations in his invitation. If one omitted Fluttershy’s guest and assumed that more than one pony had the same destination in mind, then it was a simple conclusion that each of the special guests were chosen based on each individual's interest in a specific room. The question was, why? Why would anypony throw a party only to separate the guests? Why invite so few guests to view these rooms? Why were these creepy ponies dancing without any music?
Wait...why are these ponies dancing in these rooms instead of the banquet hall? Heartstring stopped for a moment to look into one of the rooms they passed, confirming that the occupants were indeed dancing in the same manner as those in the Foyer and Banquet Hall, sans the eerie music. Just who are these odd ponies and why would they dance without any sort of music?
This whole event just seemed odd and Heartstring just couldn’t seem to wrap his mind around what was going on. It seemed like a puzzle that was missing pieces. The only pony that could help him fill in the gaps was Gale herself. He wondered what secrets the Pegasus hid behind that beautiful smile of hers.

Trace followed near the back of the group, and found herself watching Fluttershy and Ranger for the third time already that night. And she knew it really was Ranger this time, that little stunt he did with his mask confirmed it. This must have been that 'thing' he had to do. His secret 'thing' he had to do with his secret marefriend. Trace huffed, but literally stopped herself as she felt herself getting worked up. 'No. No getting like that, girl. You got no real reason to. Let him enjoy his night with his...' she shook her head and trotted the best she could to catch up with the group.
With a toss of her mane, now that it actually long enough to be tossed, she once again forced herself to look around to find distractions. She peered into rooms as they passed by, seeing more of the odd dancing couples within and that sense of foreboding returned. 'Great. Worked up to paranoid. What a lovely night...' she sighed quietly.
Once they reached the entrance to the weather room, Trace froze at the start of the catwalk. 'And the night gets better.' she groaned. 'Heels and heights. Better and better.' she continued to complain in her mind as she took careful steps along the walk, following behind the group. She paid no mind to the sights or what the others were saying, she was fully focused on her footing and not falling to her death.

The group left the library and Fluttershy took one last look at the pony she now knew was called Selenia as they exited. Fluttershy felt a little better about her own desire to leave the party once they reached the place she most wanted to be at.
But before she could linger too much on that happy thought, they entered the most terrifying room in the mansion yet. A catwalk that seemed extremely narrow to Fluttershy suspended high in the air. Many of the other ponies followed Gale with ease, but Fluttershy hung back unsure. Looking behind her, she noticed another pony, the mare in the raven mask who looked nervous as well. She had felt the eyes of this mare on her all night, but Fluttershy couldn't help but sympathize. The poor mare was visibly as frightened as Fluttershy in this area. As she watched, the raven masked mare advanced slowly, and Fluttershy took courage from her example-
But not enough courage apparently. As soon as Fluttershy looked down, she gave out a terrified squeak.
"Oh, it's so high..." She whimpered, hiding her eyes behind her hooves, "I don't think I can do this after all."

Ranger noticed Fluttershy's hesitation and approached her, resting one hoof on her back and taking one of hers in his own again.
"Don't worry Fluttershy, hold my hoof, and if you slip, I'll catch you, promise. I know you can do it," He said, leading her slowly on the catwalk. slowly, to make sure she wasn't resisting. If she really didn't want to go on, he wouldn't force her.
The concept of a Pegasus that is afraid of heights was strange and humorous, but Fluttershy was a friend, and she needed support, and Ranger already said he'd do whatever it takes to make sure Fluttershy enjoys this night throughly, so he tried his best to encourage her to follow his head, her hoof in his at all times.

Leading the group unto the central area of the catwalk, the hostess pointed out with a hoof at the vastness of the room,
"As you can see there is dirt and grass on the ground, as well as some trees and plants to simulate actual working environments. There is a cloud-maker installed, wind generators and many other cutting edge innovations to help simulate everything from a simple rain cloud to the most terrifying... Gale." The Pegasus mare flashed a smile at the group.
"The controls are all labeled and the settings are self explanatory. Here is one console - " She gestured at a machine sitting in the center of the catwalk, many dials, knobs and buttons decorating its surface. "There is another outside the room, as a fail-safe. During training, the doors lock automatically, and cannot be opened from the inside. I would suggest that if any of you want to experience this marvel, you start off easy and work your way up."
Noticing again, Fluttershy and Ranger's behavior, Gale smiled to herself once more, they certainly made a cute couple. The cloaked one was certainly very sensitive to Fluttershy's moods and feelings.
"Is there anyone who wishes to remain here in this room?" The blonde mare asked finally, looking around at the gathered crowd.

Lost looks at the different consoles, and waits. She's not going to stay here, certainly! All she'd get is wet and miserable, or broken bones if she fell.

Stay? Why would anypony want to stay in this horrible room. "Not to sound rude," Trace spoke up, "but can we move this part of the tour onward. You know, for those of us that dislike heights and whatnot?" she kept her voice even as best she could, trying not to make it too obvious that she was talking about herself.

Wildfires eyes grew to the size of saucers as Gale went over the systems abilities and such, the fact she had ignored her twice this evening going over her head. She did her best to hold herself down on the ground, her wings wanting to extend and take flight into a hurricane, or some other powerful storm. She hadn't been in a dangerous storm in ages, and the normal storms felt like light showers to her. She was a heavy storm weather pony after all, and if this machine could do all Gale said it could, it would be some much needed practice, as well as an amazing relaxation tool. She slowly took a few steps forward on the catwalk, wanting to take the plunge down with every step. "I'll be staying in this room. I've wanted to fly through a hurricane since I was little, but I live to far from any ideal locations for one to form. I'm not going to pass this chance up."

Candle Light Prose had just remembered, she had left her oven on at home! Shameful at this horrid display of irresponsibility, she whispered to Gale to escort her out of the mansion grounds. The hostess resolved to do so, and returned a while later, to the group waiting for her. "That was unfortunate." She said.

Ranger led Fluttershy slowly across the catwalk, and she felt able to cross with his aid. He was so soothing, so kind. She gave him a grateful smile and then felt confused, why was she so happy to have him with her all of a sudden? Why did he make her feel so safe right now? She chalked it up to his ability to read into the emotions of others and put them at ease. From what she remembered he had always been very chivalrous.
As Fluttershy was pondering this she noticed a member of their party leave. It worried her a little because she noticed their number had been shrinking quickly. While she was anxious to leave the group as well, she was starting to wonder about this "splitting up" business. Why would other ponies want to leave the group at once? Surely some of them had come to enjoy the party... right?

Heartstring chuckled at their guide’s choice of words. Word play was certainly his favorite type of comedy. It was at that moment Gale became less of a puzzle and more of a mare. The gleam in her eyes was simply enchanting. He certainly was going to be continuing with this group at least until they reached the fashion exhibit, though his aspirations had changed a bit since coming here. He was unsure of what his decision would be once they got there.

Gale, now slightly impatient due to the departure of Candlelight, quickly led her entourage to the rooms, leaving each pony in the rooms they requested, or letting them wander around if that was their will.
After all was said and done, she swiftly disappeared in one of the corridors, wishing the ponies to have fun, and telling them they can always come back to the banquet hall and join in the dancing later on.

Trace had decided to stay in the room containing Dr. Rainlock's maps, as that was her main reason for even coming to this event. She planned on looking over as many as she could and commit the locations listed on each to memory as best she could. Afterword, she could then go check out his treasury before returning to her hotel. It was a good and simple plan. She just hoped she wouldn't get lost when she finally did decide to leave.
With no time like the present, Trace got to work looking over the maps one at a time, humming softly to herself as she did. She was in a really good mood. She was off that catwalk and was getting to see secret locations! A part of her mind wondered how they could be secret if there were maps of them, but she told that part to be quiet and not wreck her fun.
