Huruma stepped out of the Everfree and into the town she assumed was Hoofington, the light snow crunching underfoot as she sped up to get away from the danger infested forest, and to get closer to the town. It looked warm from under her hood, which she had decided to keep on in case any of the locals approached her. She had no idea how ponies would react to her in Equestria, but she was here to explore and see the world, not get caught up in inter-species whatevers. This was the first Equestrian city she stopped in, walking past Fillydelphia and into the Everfree, not knowing it was a dangerous place. She stepped into town and slowly walked down the street, casually glancing at the buildings and signs around her looking for an inn.

From the other end of the street, two ponies came into view. A white and blank Earth Pony Stallion and a sky blue Unicorn mare with a quiver of arrows on her back. The mare seemed to be talking endlessly to the other pony with, what seemed to be, a pair of plates full of waffles floating around her head. As they approached, her words came into hearing.
"...And I could finally see what they do up there all day! I mean, they have to be up to something, right? If they weren't, they would come down more often. Them and the Griffins. I bet they have really neat parties! Speaking of Griffins, what fascinating creatures! I only saw one once and never met one, but I bet they're really fantastic! I heard they line on top of mountains. I bet it's really cold up there. I would hate to visit them in the winter."
The Unicorn was so into her ramblings that she didn't notice the new comer until barely a foot in front of her. Once she noticed the cloaked figure in front of her, she tried to quickly back peddle to avoid a collision. She slipped on the snow and face planted into the powered in front of the stranger, the fall causing arrows to fall from her quiver onto the ground, and her magic breaking, dropping the waffles onto the snow as well.

Quillson kept his eyes on his hooves, step after step through the crisp snow covering the street. His thoughts continued to be muddled and raced around his head while he went, making it hard to focus on Diamond's words that attacked his ears. What was it he was feeling, why couldn't he focus? Why was keeping up conversation on his end becoming so difficult...
He glanced up to see the cloaked figure standing just before him, stopping short of walking too close to the pony. That was a lucky break, he needed to pay more attention to what was going on around him.
And that was when the filly walking beside him seemed to crash and topple over herself, landing in a puff of snow and waffles. He almost choked on his words, kneeling down next to Diamond's head. "Diamond! Are you all right? Here, let me help you back up..." He glanced up again, noticing the cloaked figure once more. As he helped his friend back to her hooves, Quillson addressed the other. "I apologize for the inconvenience. We were just distracted... I hope we haven't caused you any problems."

Huruma backed away from the stumbling pony, wincing as the mare fell in a pile of arrows, waffles and pony. She wondered briefly why the mare was armed, but was tore from her thoughts by another pony, this one a stallion who seemed to be a friend fo the mares. "You have not caused me any problems, but it seems I have caused one for you."She extended a hoof to the downed mare. "We all should have been watching our surroundings, instead of allowing ourselves to become distracted and harm each other."

"I'm okay! I'm okay... It's okay." The blue mare groaned as she was helped up by the two. Once up, she brushed the snow off her face, shook out her coat, and looked around at the mess she made. Frowning, she set to work gathering up her arrows in her magic, floating them back to her. One by one, she placed them back in her quiver as she seemed to count them. Content that she had them all, she turned her attention to the waffles.
"Is a snowy breakfast still good or are they done for now?" she asked allowed, but not really aiming it either of the two next to her. Diamond then remembered the stranger who just helped her up and switched her frown to a smile as she addressed the new hooded friend.
"Oh, hello there! Sorry for almost walking into you. I was talking to my friend Quill, here, and sometimes I get really into what I'm talking about and forget to pay attention to other stuff that's going on around me, so that's why I almost crashed into you. So, sorry again for that. I'm Diamond Point, by the way!" she said quickly and cheerfully, and extended a hoof.

Quillson stepped back after helping Diamond up from her fall, taking a look at the various items that had managed to be scattered around the surrounding snow. He began to bend down, reaching for one of her misplaced arrows, only to have it lifted up with magic moments before he grasped it. All right, obviously she could handle herself, no sense in him getting in the way.
Rather, Quillson turned his attention towards the newcomer. She seemed nice, and that accent... Sounded like that of a Zebra. Probably, anyway. Quillson had been mistaken before after all. He couldn't really make out the Pony's look with the hooded cloak, but it's better not to assume.
He turned back towards Diamond to respond to her question "To be honest, I'd say the breakfast foods are done for...". He looked around at the waffles sticking up in the snow. "I doubt anypony would want to eat those anymore." Once more he turned back to the newcomer and was about to introduce himself, when Diamond did just that.
He waited until she had finished, and this new pony had responded before he said anything else. "I'm Quillson Oatswrite, It's a pleasure to meet you." he said outstretching a hoof. He looked over at the pony's hooded face, smiling as usual.

Huruma pulled her hood back, revealing that she was infact a zebra. "My name is Huruma, it is a pleasure to meet you both." She frowned as the duo quickly discarded the thought of recollecting their breakfast. She quickly reached into her bags for an old ratty recipe book, laying it on a nearby dry bench and flipping through the pages. "You ponies must have never had snow, as my tribe found it as a delicacy." She held up a page that had recipes for various dishes using snow, Snow smoothies, Snow creme with berries, Honeyed snow. There was no doubt some of these would be good with the waffles laying in the snow, or other dishes the locals might eat. The Zebra mare was sure of it.

Diamond's eyes lit up as the Zebra lowered her hood, revealing the truth about her. She pawed at the ground excitedly and let out a little squeal, "You're a Zebra! Oh, that is fantastic! That means you came a long way, then, right? You're a traveler? A wanderer? A nomad! Quill's a traveler as well, you know. Oh! Have you ever seen a dragon? Up close? Ooh, you are so lucky!"
Diamond then quickly quieted when Huruma took out a book, setting it out for them to see, and spoke about how they could use the snow. Diamond's eyes continued to sparkle. This Zebra was just full of surprises!
"You mean you eat the snow?! How bizarre is that!" she looked at the fluffy powder around them before turning her attention to the book.
"Oh wow! Look at all these recipes! I never knew you could use the snow for so much! This is amazing! Quill! Are you looking at these?"

Quillson kept his eyes level on the Zebra's face as she removed her hood, exposing her identity. Apparently his first guess had been right. He nodded with a smile as she introduced herself as Huruma, but was taken a back for a split second as she quickly changed her attention towards the ground. As she pulled the book from her belongings Quill started to wonder just what she needed it for at that particular moment.
He bent his head down a level to get a better view of the book, reading through the lines of texts that had been placed within. Luckily enough for Quill he had managed to get his hooves on various Zebra writings during his travels, and could scrounge up the basics of their written language whenever it came up.
"Hm. Eating the snow." He nodded to himself as he looked down at the powder around their hooves. He spun through different ideas as to why this Zebra (or Zebras in general) would need to resort to eating snow, or as to why he and other ponies didn't.
Upon Diamond's remarks and question, he turned to face her before responding. "That's quite something! Considering snow is frozen water, I guess it makes sense to be able to utilize it in various meals and what not. Perhaps ponies just get their water from differing sources, we don't have a need for it in our foods as well."
Once more he turned back to Huruma as she perused the book on snow flavored meals. "It really is interesting though, Huruma! Diamond and I here could be classified as the "curious" type, and would love to talk to you some more. That is, if you aren't too busy." He waited for a response from the newcomer, glancing back towards Diamond occasionally. If for anything to settle his own mind. Why? Goodness knows.

Huruma smiled as she closed the book, placing it back in her bags. She looked back at the duo, nodding. "I have just arrived into town myself, and was searching for a place to stay the evening. Other then that matter, I am as you would say, unoccupied."

Diamond frowned a little as Huruma put the book away, but quickly perked up again when the Zebra said she was looking for a place to stay.
"Oh! We just came from the Inn! We could totally show you where it is, if you like! We were going to take these waffles to a friend of ours before I dropped them, and I would ask your help to fix them with your snow food book, but I don't know if Aestella would like them." Diamond leaned in closer to Huruma to whisper, "She kind of freaks out if things aren't just perfect, you know?"

Quillson smiled and nodded as Diamond spoke with the new Zebra in town. He looked across towards Huruma as Diamond closed in, whispering her message about Aestella to the newcomer. "Yes, we would be happy to take you there! I'm not sure if I can say this officially, but welcome to Hoofington. I hope that your time spent here will be most enjoyable!"
Grinning, Quillson looked back down at the waffles in the snow. He let the smile slip away a she pondered the fate of the food. "If you'd like Huruma, you're welcome to take the waffles as your own. I believe Diamond's right. I wouldn't think our friend Aestella would want too much of these anymore."
He bent down towards the frozen snow waffles, giving the closest a quick whiff. All he could smell was frozen water, the scent of the baked good completely gone in this chilled environment. He raised his head once more, readjusting his composure and looking back towards Diamond.

Huruma chuckled, stepping over to the lost waffles chuckling, "I am afraid these ones my colorful and curious friends are lost, and should be given to the wildlife. The trick to eating with snow is to use a little, and eat it before it melts." She looked back up at the duo, "I would much enjoy assisting you in making more of the waffles. I may not be a cook myself, but my book entails more then snow recipes." She gathered the waffles up in her mouth and sat them off to the edge of the road, watchng as small birds decended from the nearby trees.

"I suppose we could go get more waffles and try again, but won't they get mad if we keep taking all the food? I mean, it is free but I can see how it could be annoying." Diamond sat in the snow as she thought aloud. "Maybe we should just show her to the Inn... she probably come from far away, and--Oh!" she hopped back onto her hooves and grinned at the Zebra.
"So, where did you come from? How long have you been walking? You got to be tired, well maybe. I wasn't, but I only came from Canterlot and I had a pit stop in Ponyville, but you. Where did you come from?" she quickly asked Huruma.

The stallion stood and witnessed Huruma pass the waffles off to the birds near the road. He watched as the small creatures spread their tiny feathered wings, descending down from the snow laden trees and onto the waiting frozen treats. He thought for a moment on the subject of flying, thinking back to Aestella's designs on the mechanical concept. She was quite the inspired one. And it was Kuruka who had brought the idea into her head.
He let his mind race through his chain of thoughts as he listened to the others speak, Diamond being her normal inquisitive self. Hay, she made his job that much easier. She asked the questions so rapidly that Quill wouldn't even need to. He smiled for a moment thinking back to the wings again, reminding him of a time long past.
Rather than get lost in a time that wasn't anymore, he turned his main focus back to the conversation between the two in front of him. "I was wondering that myself, as a matter of fact. Would you mind too much to share a little about yourself? I promise we're great listeners." He forced a smile, doing his best to keep his thoughts from wandering back any further.
