In Celestial Divide we employ a very state of the art system to ensure fair and realistic results to various things. This system developed by myself, requires nothing of the player other than to play out what they want to do!
The Random system - Random things are bound to happen, like random encounters with monsters, random finding of treasure or discovery of a secret location... You will be immediately told of such occurrences either IC or OOC. Keep in mind, these things can happen at any time! (With the exception of monster encounters that can only happen in Wilderness)
The Combat system - Specifically designed for optimum integration of character elements, the Celestial Divide combat system takes into account details from your own character's history (on the board and in the past), the character (Or monster) they're fighting and the environment. Of course most important is what YOU do. So manage your battles carefully! (though keep in mind, that in combat situations, panic, confusion and other elements are taken into account as well as the quick time of reaction needed.) It goes down to the smallest of details (for example, if the said character have been told something about the monster he is fighting and he can spot an advantage due to it).
The system is FAIR! Fairest system possible in a setting such as this. Fair for the players, fair for the monsters. The more your characters fight, the better at and more used to combat they get which helps them achieve better results. There is also a percentage of luck taken into account, as conditions on the battlefield can be harmful or helpful.
We get a lot of questions about this system and the simple answer is this -
In combat, all you have to do is post what your pony is DOING. Whether or not it HITS or MISSES is left up to the system to decide. Some hits may be critical, some misses can be critical and some dodges may be critical. These will initiate new situations in combat such as counter strikes etc, which will happen independently with no need for you to post again.
Now the kicker - These systems are CONSTANTLY IN USE. Listen checks, spotting checks, not encountering monster checks... always. No character, including plot, canon and even my own characters are immune to the system. Why? Because I love to improvise and if someone just up and decides to kill an important character, seeing what would happen after is just as much exciting for me as it is for you!
Hope that clears things up!
P.S. If you have problems with a result of the systems, feel free to bring it up to me and we'll talk it through and see what can be done.
