He shouldn't be in Canterlot. Grey had advised against it entirely, and the old albatross had yet to be wrong about things like this, especially when it was something so easily avoidable as this. Vorpal may be able to read the winds like nopony's business, but the old coot may as well have known what was coming when it came to danger.
Even Gale knew that this was a terrible idea. They were Sky pirates, there was no point in getting ponies who couldn't fly, especially not when they didn't even have a way to get them to the skies properly anyway. Grey had told him he was going to fail no matter what.
But members were low. He'd lost another couple in a hunt recently, and he really needed new ponies to join him. Even then, why not go for pegasi again? Why should he put himself into the capital city, when he was a wanted criminal? Even if he did have a relatively good disguise, complete with a rather simple outfit which completely covered his cutie mark, this was nearly suicide.
But while on a patrol, he'd caught his eye on something... something that would work both as a symbol, and allow him to allow non-pegasi into his ranks. He'd found a place for it in their hideout, and he'd found one that was to his liking. He just needed help performing his goal.
So here he was, in the working class areas of Canterlot, looking for ponies who would be interested in being pirates, so he could steal an airship. Grey, despite his reservations, had promised that their usual cover storm would be in place when he was ready to move, and the sky was already a rich slate grey when he landed calmly, looking around for somepony who might be interested in his proposal.
He hoped he wouldn't have to abandon his mission, but had accepted that if he didn't get enough ponies to commandeer the ship they would leave. He folded his wings tightly and brushed a hoof through his freshly dyed mane (back to his original green for now.)
