Thunder Mint was walking stiff-legged along a trail through the forest. What she was doing out here was any pony's guess. Eyes half closed due to the cold and anger, the black pelted pony glanced over at Falling Leaf. "Why in the world are we out here?" She snapped. Not a fan of the cold, the Pegasus was rather surprised that her friend had managed to get her to do anything more than just sit next to a fire or something. But no! She was out in the forest freezing her hooves off for no real reason at all. Wings clamped to the side of her body to try and keep them from going numb, the Pegasus scuffed at the frozen dirt that she walked on. Warmth and a hot cup of Frozen Leaf's tea sounded really good right about now.

The other mare couldn't help but smirk at her companion's bad attitude that never seemed to go away. But she didn't mind much, her calm nature allowing her to mingle with ponies of many variety. Thunder Mint herself happened to be ill-tempered, but kind at heart, as Falling Leaf had found out after spending time with the pegasus. After that, they had simply drawn together on occasion, the tan mare's own disposition able to some-what quiet the other to a point. "There's been more monster sightings in the woods. Ranger won't even let me near Everfree, and doesn't want me wandering alone here either. But there's a special herb that only grows during winter," she explained, her hooves gently pressing on the soft snow that had fallen the night before. "You know, you should have warn that scarf that I bought you last year." Falling Leaf herself sported her favorite black and yellow scarf, which draped itself casually around her neck. Common work boots shielded her hooves from the chilly substance that coated the ground, and with a sigh, she noticed Thunder Mint had also forgotten shoes of any type. "I swear, you're worse than a filly," she commented as she unwound her scarf from her neck, placing it on her friend's shoulders without hesitation. Instead of waiting for Mint to decline, she simply walked forward, her eyes scanning the ground for her herb.

"Any monsters show their faces, they'll get a hoof faster than they can blink." Thunder Mint grumbled. "I won’t freeze over that easy." Came the reply. The most anyone, including Falling Leaf, ever saw was a bad tempered Pegasus that always seemed willing to fight. Only on rare occasions would the mare ever show a kind emotion. So far the only one having seen her softer side was her current companion. Giving a small snort when Leaf draped her scarf around her neck, the pony did nothing. It wasn't like her to say 'thank you' so she took it with a narrow gaze. "I'm sooo sorry?" Thunder Mint replied sarcastically. Stiffly uncurling her wings from her body, the flying pony beat them lazily so her hooves where just floating above the ground as she followed the earth pony. "Better?"

Ignoring Thunder Mint's obvious rudeness, she let it slide like usual, too preoccupied. Falling Leaf worried over the possibility of already having passed it without noticing, her hooves slowing to let her look more. She bit her tongue, on edge. The cold air nipped at her thin coat of fur, which did little to protect her from the onslaught of chills. Suddenly, with a small gasp, the mare plunged her head into the snow, her mane easily becoming coated as she withdrew herself from the fluff. In her mouth, she clasped dead grass, though a single plant in the pile had been what she was looking for. With her skill, she had plucked out the roots too, which were the best part of the herb. Turning hr head to her friend, she grinned widely around the bundle, setting it down on the path so she could single out her herb. "I can't believe I found it!" she mumbled excitedly.

Following her friend, Thunder Mint circled over her head when Falling Leaf plunged her head in to a snow bank. "You're completely nuts." She said. Pumping her wings still, that was the only sound to be heard throughout the muffled, snow laden forest. On one side, the stillness sounded more ominous than peaceful. But on the other, there would be no way anything could sneak up on them unless it had the wings of an owl. When the Earth pony set the herb down and began to sort it from the frozen dirt, the Pegasus bent her head so the scarf slid from her neck to Leaf's. She then proceeded to use a wing to brush the snow out of her friend's mane. "Last thing anyone needs is for the resident herb pony to come down with a cold." Mint sighed.

"Now who's acting like a mother?" she asked, a playful grin dancing on her muzzle as she picked the single herb up between her teeth, as gentle as possible. The mare's now even more tangled hair flopped to one side, intertwined enough to stick together rather than split onto either side. She gave a thankful nod to her friend anyways, always grateful for the help. "I hafen goffen a cold in monfs anyways," she spoke around the herb, voice muffled. Whenever signs of sickness appeared, the earth pony simply drank an herbal concoction, which would usually stifle the problems, and preclude any actual cold or disease. But instead of focusing on conversation, the earth pony started heading back down the path in the direction of town, knowing that timing meant everything with preparing this herb. The quicker the roots were chopped and hung to dry after picking, the better.

Giving a snort, the Pegasus trailed Falling Leaf from the sky. "You owe me a fire and hot tea or something as payment." She grumbled. Hey, if you were hauled out of your cozy home to go herb hunting in subzero weather, why shouldn't you get something in return? At least it would give you something to look forward to. Gaining altitude, the mint maned pony did small tricks to get the blood flowing back in to her veins. She said it once, and she would say it again. Thunder Mint. Hated. The. Cold.

Falling Leaf nodded to her companion, letting her fly overhead. Her mane fell at odd angles, twisted together at some points, yet sprawled out at others, while the sudden start of the snow gently powdered her, sticking where it could. Few other ponies inhabited the street, many hidden away for warmth, though a few rushed around doing errands. Finally reaching her store-front, the mare worked the knob with a hoof, letting both her and the trailing pegasus inside. Shaking her fur out, the herb pony set to work without taking her shoes off, carefully taking a knife into her mouth, cutting the fat roots off of the base of the plant. Without a single word, she went through the motions, until she finally hung the plant on her drying rack with a satisfied huff. She looked over to her still half-frozen friend with a subtle smirk, trying to contain herself. "I'll start the tea," she simply stated, easily maneuvering around her shop.

Following her earth bound friend in to her herb shop, Thunder Mint gave a quiet, yet happy sigh of relief. The warmth that met them felt very nice on her frozen hooves. Finding a comfortable area, the Pegasus sat down and shook out her wings. Watching Falling Leaf work on the herb, the black pelted pony sat in silence so her companion could concentrate. "Can you add mint to the tea or something?" She asked when the Earth Pony had finished, a fan of having a crisp clean tea of sorts rather than sweet.
