"Oh, please do not trouble yourself, milady!" replied StarCrosser, raising his hooves to keep Apporta from getting up. "I'm very sure they will bring my food here any moment. Please, just relax and enjoy your meal."
It took a few minutes but StarShade's meal was finally delivered by a young earth filly wearing an apron. She carefully placed the large plate filled with cheesy wedges upon the table and beckoned the black unicorn to enjoy the food. "Thank you very much, milady," the colt said ever so gentleman-like. StarShade put his forehooves up and said a little prayer in Celestia's name before he began his feast.
Cheesy wedges... potatos cut into wedge-shaped pieces and cooked to a meaty state before having cheese poured all over them. This is one of StarShade's favourite meals, as he ever so gladly shows by levitating one with his tentacle-like magic and taking a small bite from it, whereupon he closes his eyes as he revels in its almost-heavenly taste.

Apporta was amazed at how proper StarShade spoke and acted. This was an almost complete opposite of the timid unicorn she saw while training. His properness extended further as he said a quick prayer. Apporta couldn't help but bow her head in respect.
"You must really like those cheesy wedges," Apporta said with a little giggle as he watched StarShade take a bite of the potato, savouring it like it was his last meal. Settling to the task before her, Apporta levitate a knife and proceeded to cut the short stack of pancakes into perfect little squares before taking a bite of one of them. "Delicious," Apporta said as took another bite, "They remind me of weekend breakfasts at my parents' house."
She then decided that to break the silence of the two just eating, now was the time to ask StarShade about him. After all, if the two were to become partners in training, they would need to get to know each other. "So, StarShade, were you born here in Canterlot, or did you just move here from somewhere else?"

"So, StarShade, were you born here in Canterlot, or did you just move here from somewhere else?"
The black unicorn raised his right forehoof as a way to ask his friend to wait while he finished chewing the cheesy wedges before swallowing it. "Yes, I was born here in Canterlot," he replied, "My parents are businessponies and their occupation usually take them far away from home. As a result of their busy schedules they rarely ever come home. In facr, we hardly ever communicate much, except that time when I pressured them to let me enter Princess Celestia's School of Gifted Unicorns. It was a long debate but I didn't give up and kept pressuring them till they finally gave in. So I applied at the school and furthered my studies in magic. Then Crystal Lance came looking for recruits and she found us. And from there, you should probably know the rest of the story." StarShade then ate few more cheesy wedges before asking his own questions from Apporta. "And what's your story?," he inquired as he continued to munch away at his cheesy wedges.

Apporta listened intently to StarShade's story. It was sort of sad how he didn't have much interaction with his parents during his life. "It must have been hard not having your parents around, but at least they let you join Princess Celestia's School."
StarShade then asked about Apporta's life, especially how she got to where she is now. "Well, I was born and raised in Canterlot just like you. My mother is a teacher and my father works in a business. Actually it was at my parents' house that I learned about my ability as one night I woke up outside with no knowledge of ever leaving the house. I was scared but later learned that I could teleport. That led to me getting my cutie mark and eventually I enrolled in Princess Celestia's School. Then I met Crystal Lance at a concert at Canterlot. She wasn't welcoming to me at first but later at the school she accepted me here."

Ignoring his friend's comment concerning his relationship with his parents, StarShade's eyes widened in surprise as he listened to Apporta's story with great interest. "Oh my," he exclaimed, "that is a very scary way of finding out your true talent, milady. You were lucky nothing bad happened to you that time. Oh, and the concert... Starsong's concert? I was there, too. I didn't see you there but I did see Crystal Lance onstage. But the security was quite heavy and I wasn't able to get close enough for her to even notice me. To think that all three of us were there even before Crystal Lance recruited us might be more than just coincidence, at least in my understanding." He stopped talking to continue eating his meal and to let Apporta eat hers.

"It was a little scary when I teleported outside my house," Apporta said as she had another piece of her pancake. She then heard about the fact that StarShade was at the same concert that she and Crystal Lance were at. "I don't remember seeing you there either. Of course I didn't really know you at that time. Now that you mention it, it is interesting how the three of us were there only to be together shortly after."
With that Apporta let StarShade enjoy his cheesy wedges as she worked on her pancakes.

StarShade happily munched away at his meal, levitating each cheesy wedge from his plate at a time and biting off half of it while still levitating the remaining half in the air. As he chews the delicious morsel his mind raced back in time, back to the time when he, as a little foal, had tasted the cheesy wedges for the very first time in his life. It was one of the very few good memories he had from his childhood, but it was better than no good memories at all. And this was sufficient to make him feel contempt.
As both Apporta and StarShade enjoyed their meals, glaring stares were being thrown at them from almost every direction.

Apporta continued to eat her pancakes contently. They reminded her of how during the weekend her parents would make a big breakfast and enjoy spending their time together. It was a tradition that lasted even throught her time in college when she would sometimes come home during the weekends.
She then noticed that behind StarShade a pegasus pony was glaring in their direction. Looking around to see if there was something next to her or behind her that the pony was staring at, Apporta was surprisingly met by other ponies' glaring eyes. Many of them were earth or pegasus ponies with a few unicorns in the mix. She realized that they were staring at her and StarShade. Maybe StarShade was used to ignoring, but Apporta.
"Excuse me, Apporta said at the nearest onlooker but loud enough so the others could hear, "Do you need something or wish to talk to me about something, because staring at me isn't helping me know what you want. I'm not a mind reader after all. Otherwise could you please stop staring. It's starting to creep me out."

StarShade was quite shocked at Apporta's actions and it nearly made him choke while swallowing his meal. He watched his friend with great worry as she threw out questions at the other ponies around them who had been staring at them both. Fearful that the filly might start a fight, the black unicorn quickly stood up and grabbed her by the shoulders with his hooves and tried his best to calm her down.
"At ease, milady!" he told her, "Let them stare. They haven't done anything bad to us, yet. Only if they mean us any harm should we act. But for now, please stay down and just enjoy your meal."
With gentle caresses on her shoulder, StarShade attempts to coax Apporta back down to relax.

Apporta felt a pony from behind grab her by the shoulders and thinking it was one of the ponies around her doing that was about to react when she heard StarShade voice. The pony was so kind to her, preferring that the others stare instead of having her get upset. Apporta was by no means a shrinking violet. She did not like rude ponies and was not afraid to confront them. She never resorted to physical violence, though being in the military that would eventually be inevitable.
The soft caress on her shoulders did make Apporta blush. Although she had friends at the university, none of them were close. She also, aside from of course her parents, was never hugged or held by any other pony, especially not a colt. It felt awkward but at the same time it was calming and she found herself sitting back down at the table, silent from the show of deep concern from StarShade.

StarShade was getting worried of what the results for Apporta's cations would be, to the point where he began eating his meal in a more hurried manner - gobbling whole cheesy wedges instead of systematically biting them bit by bit. His eyes moved from side to side as he ate, keeping virgil in case a certain disgruntled pony would suddenly decide to rise up and attack his them. Yet he didn't want to spread his troubled feeling to the filly, so the colt decided to change the find a subject to speak about that would distract his friend.
"You want to know something crazy, milady?" he asked her, "Back when I was little, I would hide myself in the library until it closes. After everypony has left and the librarian locks up the place, I would come out of my hiding place, turn on a lamp, get myself books I find interesting, and read them - all alone in the library, in perfect peace. Crazy, wouldn't you think so?"

Apporta realized how nervous she made StarShade with her little outburst as he began to eat his cheesy wedges quicker rather than savoring them like he did. She then hear StarShade mention about how he would hide himself int the library.
"Oh that's not crazy at all," Apporta replied, "As a foal my parents would take me to the library every week. There I would spend the whole day practically wandering the shelves and reading. I especially liked reading books on magic, history, and fantasy. As I grew older, I would travel to the library myself spending more time there. Then when I went to the university I spent much of my time researching there."
Apporta paused as if she remembered a memory. "Actually, I remembered once that I was in the library late at night. There were no other ponies but me and the library was about to close. I was just about to leave when I heard somepony moving about. Then I saw what looked like a shadow of a pony quickly moving. I must say it frightened me a little, and stopped me from being at the library late at night for awhile. I thought the library was haunted, but it could have been you actually."
