The tan colored unicorn pony stepped out of the Everfree, walking into the town of hoofington. It had been a while since he had seen this little town, but it had come to his attention there was a unicorn here he 'just needed to see' according to an old friend. He was a retired soldier, considered to old to fight, no matter how strong he was physically or mentally. He stepped into the town, keeping his good eye open for any sign of a light blue unicorn, most likely carrying a quiver of arrows. It was his mission to find and train this unicorn, which he accepted from an old military friend of his who apparently knew her. He grinned as he spotted the mare walking down the street, and approached her, standing tall but not menacingly. "Diamond point?"

Diamond was in the middle of doing a patrol around the town, thought sometimes she wondered why she did. Nothing ever happened. She could be doing much better things with her time, like painting a wall or tuning a piano, but it couldn't be helped. This day seemed to be about the same as every other since she arrived in the town. Quiet, with the same, familiar faces trotting about. Like that stallion coming towards her right now. Good old One-Eye. He was a fine chap. Real friendly like. Hated loosing at chess, though.
Wait... No. That was from a book she read. Then who the hay was this guy? Diamond stopped as she was approached, raising an eyebrow as the strange unicorn seemed to knew her name. That was odd. Maybe she did know him? In that case... Diamond smile wide,
"Hi there! And yes, I'm Diamond. Do I know you? If so, I'm sorry but I seem to have forgotten your face, and I normally don't do that. Most of the time. And yours in a face I think I'd remember. It's got a lot of character! Anyway, welcome to Hoofington! How can I help you?"

The elder unicorn smiled at the younger mare, "You do not know me, but you will soon enough. An old friend of mine, Fairbreeze sent me to see what you could do. Maybe you know of her? She suggested I come find you. Anyhow, My name is Whitebane, and assuming you have the aptitude, I am to be your trainer, if you will have me." With this the older stallion stood rigidly still and tall, hoping that this was indeed the correct mare.

Diamond extended a hoof, continuing to wear a friendly smile, "A pleasure to meet you, Whitebane. I can't I recall this Fairbreeze, though.... Anyway!" She waved a hoof dismissively, "What do you mean by a trainer? What have you come to try to train me to do? Are you going to give me power ups or special candies to make me harder, better, faster, stronger? 'Cause if so, I already ate."

Whitebane cocked an eyebrow at the seemingly crazy mare. Power ups? Candy? What? He shook his head, chuckling. He always got the wierd ones. "I have heard that you fancy the magical bow and arrow, a skill to few unicorns choose to study, let alone master. I am here to train you in this aspect." The stallion turned away from Diamond Point, "It has been a long time since I have last been here in Hoofington, so I will follow you to where you normally train."

Diamond's eyes lit up as the stallion explained himself, "Really!? Oh, that would be fantastic! The trainers in Canterlot were only able to help me so much, I've mostly taught myself!" she bounces on a the spot a little before calming herself. "Right, right. Sorry. Serious time. I practice closer to the woods, but not completely in them."
The sky blue unicorn lead her new teacher--squee!--to the Everfree treeline. Or, well, about 30 feet or so from the treeline, where she drew a line in the dirt to remember her spot. "So, uh... Where's your gear?" she asked while drawing an arrow from her quiver.

Whitebane followed Diamond Point to the treeline, where she stopped and drew a line in the dirt. He chuckled when she asked where his gear was. "My gear? The travel here was short, so I did not bring anythng with me. As for tools to train you with..." He stepped forward, standing mere feet from Diamond Point, "Call forth your bow. I want to see what I am working with."

Diamond gave the old stallion an odd look, but nodded, "Alright." she turned to face the treeline and narrowed her eyes. The magical glow around the arrow floating next to her grew brighter, thicker and a little longer. The tip of the glow then fanned outward, creating the bow around the arrow. Her eyes locked on the tree, she released the arrow, causing the bow to dissipate, though the arrow rocketed off into the branches of the tree. A loud 'THUNK' could be heard as the arrow struck home, knocking a wooden brick out of the branches, and to the ground.

Whitebane smiled, "Good. Can you hold the bow for multiple shots, or do you have to rebuild it for each one?" Depending on her answer, this was either going to be a short lesson, or a long one. Considering how long it had been since he trained anypony, he hoped for the latter, not actually wanting the unicorn to be bad.

Diamond shook her head and actually seemed to look a little embarrassed, "One shot per bow. I use the arrow as a focus point, so without the arrow, the bow falls apart. Is that... bad?" she tilted her head, looking up at her new trainer curiously.

Whitebane shook his head slowly, "No, that is fine, but you must learn to hold the bow without the arrow as a focus point." With this he called upon his own magic and summoned a simple long bow, the string pulling back forming a magical arrow. He then let the string go, the arrow whizzing into the trees. He didn't hit a target, but he proved a point. "A focal point is unneccesary. All you need is to picture the bow and arrow in your mind and use your magic to make it reality. Of course, this will take training, for all you are doing is launching a spell at your foe in the form of an arrow." He dispelled his own bow, glancing back at his new student. "Now, I want you to form a bow, and hold it without using the arrow as a focal point. Instead of using an arrow, imagine an arrow already there."

Diamond's mouth drop as Whitebane summoned a bow AND an arrow, seemingly effortlessly. Her head snap to the side, in an poor attempt to follow the magic arrow, then snapped back to the stallion just as quickly. "That... was FANTASTIC!!" she eyes were huge, and she wore a huge smirk, like she just saw Celestia herself in the market.
"Right... right." Diamond shook herself out to loosen up and tried to focus again. "You can do it, I can do it. Simple. Easy. Who needs arrows. Pff, I don't. Right? Right. Let's see..." She started to concentrate, staring the air, her horn glowing softly. In the air in front of her, another glow appear, small, but growing slowly. Diamond glared at the spot, willing it into a shape. The small glow grew more, stretching out and forming into a... brick, stopping there.
"Oops...That's... not quiet a bow. Hold on, hold on. I can do this..." She dropped the magic brick, it landing on the ground with a chunk before vanishing, as a new speck of light appeared in front of the mare.

Whitebane looked on as Diamond made a brick, dropping it and attempting to form a bow. Well, atleast brick started with B. It was close in a way he supposed. He looked on as she began forming another object, remembering his first time. He had created an umbrella of all things. He remembered what his first teacher had told him, "Picture the arrow first, then form the bow around it."
