FOR HIRE
Harrier Sonnet Soldier of Fortune Inquire Within Harriet paused, frowning a little at the poster. She was glad the barkeep had put it up, but the poster was really plain; not what she was going for at all. Oh well, you can't win 'em all, and it's definitely better than nothing. "Thanks for the advertising space," Sonnet said, smiling at the bartender and taking a seat. "No problem for a regular such as yourself," The barkeep said, bringing her a drink. "To new business," she said, lifting her glass and downing it in one gulp, then sat back to see if anyone would be coming in today.

Cirrus flapped his wings leisurely, enjoying the caressing touch of the icy wind against his skin as he flew high above Ponyville. As he passed it, he flapped his wings higher and through the clouds. He shook off the perspiration that came from it, his mane now shiny with it. Within moments, Cloudsdale was within his view. Cirrus noted that a new store had opened up among the shops, a placed called 'Bar None'.
"A bar? That's new. Let's drop by and see if the drinks are any good." He muttered aloud to himself, twitching his wings and arcing his body in order to make a turn towards it. He loved the dull hum the wind made in his ears, his eyes narrowing and his mouth forming a smirk.
The cloud floor gave a little and a small spray of water came forth, as he landed. Cirrus shook his wings, as they once again had water on them, and casually walked into the bar.
He blinked at the sudden darkness of the place, trying to get the little dots of light out as he gazed in. The room was dimly lit and there were tables set up mingling. Than he turned his eyes towards the bar, where the bartender and one lone female pony sat, her eyes peering back at him from over her drink.
Cirrus coughed and cleared his throat, speaking in his quiet voice, "Good evening. A glass of ginger ale please."
He sat down next to the female pony, crossing his legs and leaning against the counter as he waited for his order.

Harrier took another long drag of her drink and glanced over to her left. So now she and the bartender had some company... well, she'd been itching for some conversation. She smiled and turned towards the other pony. "So, been out all day, have ye?" she said, smirking at the younger pony for a moment, but getting no reply.
"Well, glad to have some company," she continued, turning back to her drink and taking a nice long drag, finishing it. The barkeep handed Cirrus his ginger ale, and picked up Harrier's glass to refill it. She turned back to Cirrus and held her hoof out. "Name's Harrier Sonnet; Poet, bard & merc."

Days. It had been days since Wildfire had flown off into the night, away from him. Cloudfall only let her go off because he figured she needed to cool off... and because he had no hope of catching up with her at her top speeds. He went to her house in the morning to check on her, but there was no answer. Alright, fair enough. But later that night, he asked around at the Weather Factory and no pony had seen her. Cloudfall started to worry and rushed back to her home and found it to be unlocked. He found that she wasn't hope and it started to look like she never came home after that first night. He gave it one more night, maybe she stayed at an inn? Or at a friends.
Now it was getting to be too much, and the guilt was eating away at his insides, but today was different. He found a helping hoof. On his round, checking Wild's home and asking around at the factory, Cloudfall had bumped into Trinity Moonheart, another pegasus he had met once before. After explaining his worry, Trinity agreed to help Cloudfall look. But there was only one place left for them to look and they would need some help.
Cloudfall dropped out of the air, landing on the cloud in front of the bar. Panting lightly, he trotted up to the building and eyed the 'FOR HIRE' sign. He felt a smile break out across his face, "Perfect." he said aloud. Waiting a moment to let his friend catch up, he then pushed through the doors and entered the pub. He glanced around the place as he walked up the counter, feeling his nerves try to break to the surface, but he fought them back down. This was no time to be shy. There was just no time at all. Standing up on his hind legs to cross his front legs on the counter top, he looked to the Barkeep, "I'm looking for Harrier Sonnet."

"Cirrus Whisp, weather pony. You're quite the jack of all trades yourself," Cirrus replied slightly amused, showing a small grin. He was already beginning to warm up to the pony; maybe it was because of her warm smile? Unsure, Cirrus continued drinking from his ginger ale and looked towards the door. He noticed the two ponies as they walked in, the male of the two taking the lead and asking the barkeep for Harriet. Cirrus noted how stressed and worn out the pony seemed. '...He looks like he could use a good drink.' He turned away, uninterested, and studied how the light played on the beer bottles behind the counter.

Harrier' ears perked up as she heard her name. Leaving Cirrus to her drink, she turned to the new pony. "That'd be me," she said slowly, getting up off the stool. She picked up her lute and strapped it across her back before walking over to the dark blue pegasus.
"And I'm assuming, that if you're oh so eager for as rough a soul as mine, you're looking to hire?" she added, looking the fellow over, judging him. He seemed like a good enough lad, if a bit of a coward. He also seemed incredibly worried about something... "What do you need muscle for, boy? Going on an expedition? A rescue mission? Is it a fine mare, lad?" She asked, judging his reaction to her words. His face said everything; he was worried about a girl, all right. Harrier cut him off before he could reply to her. "I hope you have the bits fer a merc, boy. Some of them won't accept a job unless you've paid them up front. Me, I'll accept your word... but if you don't pay me before the job's done I'll leave you in the wilderness." She smiled ruggishly, taking pleasure in her little lie. She acted the scoundrel well enough, but when things came down to it she usually would help a pony in need. "Now how about I let you talk and you can tell me all about the little lass yer chasing."

Trinity followed Cloudfall to the bar after seeing him speed away, he continued to walk as he neared the building and was pushing through the doors "Cloud running off can get you hurt." Trinity shook his head. "So you've found help?" he said as he walked past tables to get to the strangers and Cloudfall, he glanced at the two then to Cloudfall. "Umm hello I'm Trinity." he said with a smile. "So i'm figuring a pony here can help us and that why you rushed in?" He asked Cloudfall, he wasn't going to get angry with the worrying pony Trinity figured he was stressed enough and didn't need heck from others. "Lets just get down to business shall we?" he asked with a small smirk on his face.

Cloudfall was stunned for a moment. How...? She just guessed everything that was going on. He gave his head a quick shake and hopped down from the counter and nodded quickly, "Yes! All of it, yes. I have money, not on me. But I'm a weather pony, so I got some. And, uh... Escort, I guess. Rescue party. Protection. I--WE need to go to Everfree." he gestured to Trinity, taking that moment to turn to him.
"Ah... Yeah. I think she, Harrier, can help." Cloudfall told Trinity quickly before turning back to the mare. "A friend of mine, she went missing a few days ago. Last I saw her, she was heading that way and she hasn't returned home yet. I..." he stopped to catch his breath, he was not used to talking this much, or this quickly or freely. Plus the guilt was weighing down on him again.
"...I know it's probably hopeless now, but..." he spoke slower now, "I.. I just need to make sure." he looked Harrier in the eye, "Can you please help us?"

Cirrus' ears perked up at the mere mention of "Everfree." He set aside his glass and turned around in his chair.
"Mind if I join? The name's Cirrus Whisp, weather pony; I might be able to help you navigate through the weather there, if anything. If not that, than at least there'll be more ponies helping to look for her." Cirrus said aloud, flapping his wings a little in excitement at the possibility of a journey into the forest. He'd never been there before and he wouldn't miss a chance like this any day, especially with a pony like Harriet. Cirrus could tell that she'd pull them out of a tough situation.
"I could even help pay for hiring Harriet, too" Cirrus added, realizing that she might charge to protect another person.

"That's Harrier[/b], lad," she said absentmindedly, correcting the smaller pony. "Like the hawk. An' I don't think you'd be too helpful to me," she continued, trying to discourage another pony from putting themselves in danger. Two was bad enough, not to mention the probably-dead-or-dying lass they were looking for. "Keep in mind that each one of you that comes along without any combat experience is another pony I have to protect. Ye wouldn't be making my job any easier."
She turned back to Cloudfall & the other pegasus who had come in. "Well, since ye know it's most likely hopeless for yer friend, I'm not going to give you that warning. At the very most we might find out what happened to her," she said in a very businesslike manner. "That'll be forty bits for a day and a night's protection," She finished, tallying up in her head how much she usually charged, then deducting it by a few bits because these ones obviously needed the help. "Ye'll meet me at the edge of the forest in an hour, does that work?" She looked at the other ponies with a bit of pity in her eyes.
"Before we continue, I ought'a warn you," Harrier said, sighing. She didn't like being the bearer of bad news. "If we do find out what happened to yer lass, it may not be pretty. In fact, it may be very very unpretty, if there's a body," she said slowly and clearly, making sure the words held weight. "And if there's not a body, well... Ye'd better run from whatever we find with feathers in its teeth. Fighting it to let ye escape, that's my job."

Trinity listened in on the conversation. "Hold a hoof there for a second 40 bits? A bit over priced don't you think? we don't need 24 hours of your time, also what if were not attacked, I'm all for safety but i have my own proposal. 14 Bits for the three of us 7 bits for safe return a quick buck for a few hours. But if we get attack that will be 30 bits? Sound fair." He was very determined to get a better deal, it seemed a bit overpriced for the little service they needed and poor Cloudfall didn't need to pay so much to possibly not find Wild. Trinity thought this was a better deal but he would have to wait for a response from Herrier. "We just need a few hours and by the looks of it were the only work that you got. For one pony to walk away with 21 bits for maybe Six hours work is great. So what do you think?"

Cloudfall turned his head to Cirrus as he spoke, then back to Harrier as she answered him. Another pony wanted to join? He could understand the need to want to help, but they were going into Everfree Forest. That place was a death trap. He was only going in as a last resort.
He nodded slowly as Harrier started explaining the plan and what to expect, but he knew this all already. He knew they probably wouldn't find Wildfire, and if they did it wasn't going to be pretty. But he had to know. In fact, if they didn't find anything there was always the chance that she was still alive. Either way, he had to know.
Cloud turned again as Trinity spoke up and started to haggle Harrier's price. He let out an annoyed and impatient sigh as he rubbed the side of his head with a hoof. "Look. I don't care who comes and I don't care how much. I just need to get in there, see what we find, then get out. That's it. And the sooner the better." then he quietly added, "...I've waited too long already."

Harrier gave the other pegasus, Trinity, a quizzical look. She was haggling now? That didn't seem particularly smart of her, at least not with her buddy in such a hurry. Of course Harrier couldn't just agree to it, she was already giving them a big discount. "Well, little lass, first of all your friend over there doesn't seem like the type to give up until we've found something. My policy in cases like this is one day, one night, after that yer done because staying longer that is huggin' death's flanks a bit close. Second of all, if you're spendin' that long in the forest ye will get attacked. I am chargin' you on that fact. Now, I'll be happy to refund ye if I don't earn my keep, with the exception of my flat rate of ten bits for draggin' me along, but until then it's forty bits."
"Meet me in an hour on the outskirts of Everfree with my bits, and be prepared t' take orders and answer questions," she said as a way of farewell, shoving open the door to the bar and turning to go. Enough time being the friendly host looking for work. It was time to be the warrior-by-trade.

"Ten bits..is fine." said the now intimidated pony. "I guess that's a fine deal." Trinity said as he said as he headed for the door. "Come on Cloud we should get ready for the search." He said as he walked outside and awaited for Cloudfall to leave the bar. Trinity thought to himself outside, he wasn't strong, he wasn't very brave and he couldn't really stand up for his friend to attempt to barter. But maybe this search will teach him something about courage...hopefully.
