One would never expect a unicorn such as Rarity to venture out into the rougher areas outside of Ponyville borders. Typically Rarity's style of 'venture' involved sky-scrapers, boutiques, and high society seen in places such as Canterlot and Manehattan.
But there were certain lengths Rarity would go to in order to refine her craft, and her particular talent one that constantly called for her to go beyond her self-proclaimed 'comfort zone.'
"Oh, ick." The prim and proper fashionista-filly sneered as she noticed a sticky smudge-like...thing...on her fore-hoof. "As if I had the time to get a manicure this week." She muttered under her breath as she trudged on. "I guess I could chalk it up as a business expense..."
At least she was trying to find the bright side of it. But that was a stretch. The truth of the matter was still what it was - she was short several gems for her latest ensemble, and her usual spot was well picked-over. Rarity sighed internally. Now she had to start combing through the base of Dragon Mountain in hopes that its more scaled residents were dropping some of their cast-offs nearby...

Muse was testing out a new spell one that fused both of his loves for music and magic, sonar with the use of sound-waves that he could produce, he figured if he was going to practice it would be best to try and find things with his developing talent. So he went to search for gems and do some serious field testing of this ability.
He wandered around, then he would stop make his sound-wave then pick up any scattered gems, the unicorn played his music and hummed while doing so work and music just the way it has to be.
As he searched he felt something bigger... Not a dragon but not a gem of any kind so he went to investigate. He came across another ponies path she seemed a little to... 'delicate' to be out searching through the dirt for gems. "Hello?" he asked as he walked up closer

"Yeep!" Rarity let out a high-pitched squeal of surprise when the voice interrupted her 'creative process'. She looked over her flank to see an unfamiliar face.
It was a unicorn, like herself--well, not quite like herself. For starters, it was a 'he.'
"Hello." Rarity said matter-of-factly. He better not be trying to chase her off of this turf. She found it first. "I'm sorry, are you lost?" While she was being sincere, she realized it may have come off slightly condescending. It was something she was trying to work on, but for all the talk she gave about her dream to be a part of high society, she still had a lot to learn about keeping a plain expression in the face of unfamiliarity.

Muse smiled "no I'm not lost, are you?" He asked as he moved his headphones so he could hear better. "Sorry My name is Muse Mustang a DJ in canterlot and a student, I was just practicing a technique I've been working on and that how I found you." Muse bowed his head during his introduction. "So where is a fine filly like you from? your a little to classy to be playing in the dirt..." He said as he walked closer to her.

Ooh, a fellow from Canterlot! How convenient! Rarity flashed one of her politest smiles she could muster, though it was admittedly awkward, considering she was being caught trudging through the dirt like a pig hunting for truffles.
"Wh-me? Oh, oh-ho-ho-ho..." She gave an uneasy laugh. "I was just gem-hunting...it's rather important in my line of trade..."

Muse smiled "well so was I but if its for your business you can have some of mine, I have no real use for them." he said as he brushed some dirt of of himself. "I don't normally get this dirty but its healthy at least one upside to dirt and mud." He looked at her. "So what do you do besides hunt gems? are you a Jeweler?" he asked politely.

Rarity's forced smile widened into one of sincere gratitude. "Oh my goodness you darling!" She happily accepted the gems that the fellow offered her. "These will be fabulous for the outfit I'm currently designing for the Masquerade Ball!" She looked to Muse and figured she might as well offer a little something about herself.
"As much as I loathe talking about myself" Lie. "My name is Rarity, and I'm an up-and-coming fashion designer in Ponyville." At least that last part was true. "I've been noticing several Canterlot residents are migrating into the Ponyville area since Twilight moved into town." She gave Muse a curious look from below her curled mane framing her face. "Not to be too intrusive, but may I ask what draws you to this particular area?"

Muse smiled "well experimenting, I'm developing my magic skills, I love music and love magic so I'm practicing a new spell that I've created so far no problems." He sighed "was kinda boring until I bumped into you." He thought for a second. "whats ponyville like...?" He asked with a frown. "Ive only grown up in the big cities with prissy people who flaunt their ideas around like their important, I guess thats why I like music it's not in the norm for someone like me." he sighed at the end of his sentence.

Rarity felt a twinge of guilt when Muse mentioned "prissy people" and "flaunting ideas". He probably wouldn't care much for her once he got to know her.
"Well, uh--Ponyville is very different from those places...very...different." She smiled. "Everyone I know there is very down-to-earth...even the pegasus ponies! A-heh-heh..." Weak laugh.
"Someone like you?" She echoed as the colt sighed.

Muse smiled "Rarity I've grown up in the city you don't think I cant read people? I know what your like it's in your distaste for mud speech and body language." He sighed "yes I'm a tad different from my peers but in a way were all different." He gave her a smirk "your different, your also brave and determined unlike others who wouldn't dare stepping out on dirt. You might not like it but you still do it and I admire that." He smiled at her.
"So hows the fashion world? I think Ive talked enough about myself." he smirked

Rarity's smile vanished quicker than calm in a Pinkie Pie. How did he--wha--how?!
"...the...the fashion world?" She echoed stupidly. "OH!" She shook her head to get it back on straight. She had to snap out of the initial shock of being read like that. "Well, I suppose it's going quite swimmingly! What with the Masquerade Ball coming up for Princess Luna, there is potential for a lot of great fashion to be thrust into the spotlight! With potential comes opportunity...and where there's opportunity, you'll find me!" Her spirits quickly lifted at the thought of all the uh-MAY-zeeng costumes she could make for people who were planning to attend.
"So...yes...uh...while the mud is not something I like to dive into -- unless it's therapeutic in purpose, of course -- the ends justify the means!"

Muse laughed "the ball...I completely forgot about that, is that happening in Canterlot?" He asked with a smile "seems I can read people but can't remember social gatherings." he laughed a little bit "well I'm not going with anyone, I might possibly be helping out with the whole DJ thing so wanna go together Rarity?" He looked at her with soft eyes, then he blinked. "hmm well we better get more gems if you want to be ready for the ball..." he said as he looked away from her. But still awaited her answer.

Wh--'we'? What is this 'we' he speaks of? Last she checked she hadn't put out a posting for an assistant or..."Oooh, I see. Were you looking for an apprenticeship?" That's when they help you for free, right?
Ooh-ho-ho, wouldn't Applejack just be livid at the thought of Rarity getting free help instead of her...
"Well, in that case, yes! Come along, Muse! I could certainly use an extra set of eyes!" This could be the beginning of an excellent working relationship. Extra gems, more clothing, someone to help organize...! (When Opal wasn't in the mood, that is.)
She started imagining all the possibilities that she had completely missed the invitation to the ball. "So, tell me about this testing of your abilities, won't you?" She tried her best to sound interested. After all, she needed to know more about her new apprentice (ooh it sounded so official!) if she wanted to take advantage of all the skills he had to offer.
Ahem. And of course to teach him the things he needed to know in order to be...successful...in...whatever it was he was wanting to do...

~~~Drake~~~
A sudden screech brought the conversation to an abrupt halt, the sheer volume and ferocity of it were indicative of the creature now shadowing the two. Though the cry sounded like a Hawk's, the creature itself was far more reptilian.
It was a drake, covered head to toe with feathers and scales, rows of sharp teeth peeked out of its beak-like snout, an talons extended, it swooped down upon the two. Managing to grab Muse's tail and yank at it, but losing grip mid-way, causing the pony to drag along off a rocky ledge and down to an area below.
The black creature stopped and turned back to Rarity, eyes flaring.
DRAKE
Also called Crow Dragons, these monsters are not as rare as you would hope, often lurking in secluded wilderness areas like forests, lakes and mountains. Not nearly as large as a dragon, it is however far larger than a pony, and is considered dangerous.
Special Effects -
Tail- A drake can strike with its paralyzing tail, paralyzes a target for a round.
Venomous Spit - Can spit venom at its prey, slowing reaction speed for two rounds.
Danger Level: Medium (Class 2: Flying)
"Ah! Muse!!" Rarity called out for the unicorn fellow who she had lost sight of once he was pulled over the cliff. She instinctively galloped towards the cliff, only to balk frozen in her tracks once the drake diverted its attention towards her.
She let out a frightened whimper, her eyes growing wide and fearful as they locked on the drake's. She knew she had a ice cream's chance in a sunny-spot fighting off the creature. She looked around her to see if she could make any use of her surroundings...but the pickings were slim.
Reluctantly Rarity moved to the gems she had collected in her tote. With a drawn-out whine, she resolved herself to what must be done...gems are hard. Harder than any nearby twig...
Her horn glowed, hovering the gems in mid-air. Rarity clenched her teeth and focused her energy towards the beast in an aim to pelt the creature with the sharp edges of glass-sharp gemstones.
