Lone Blaze stepped into the bog, not really paying attention to where she was going. From what she could gather, rumors were swirling of something dangerous in the bog. Hardly anypony ventured into the swamp now out of fear. It was this attitude that drove Lone Blaze to come here. She was going to get to the bottom of the mystery, and prove there was nothing to be afraid of.
Lone Blaze looked left and right, seeking some clues as to what was causing all the rumors. Without any luck, she proceeded deeper into the bog, senses open to any signs of activity.

"What are you doing out here?" A voice came from behind Blaze. "Don't you know that its dangerous out here?" The voice came from a blue pegasus with a badge around his neck. Aero was looking at Blaze wit ha 'no nonsense' look. He was in the Bog on his own for the same reasons as Blaze but he just didn't want anypony to slow him down.

A sleepy unicorn watched them from her perch in a nearby tree. She had learned to climb the lower branches and gain height among the limbs. She loved sleeping in the tree's moist limbs, free to burn as she tossed and turned in her dreams, never risking an all out fire. Yet, she was awake now, and watching these intruders in her new home, ponies who didn't belong. She would show them. She would make them never return, and, if they did, well, then they deserved to be here, and she'd maybe take them to Watermark for judging.
She leapt from the tree in a burst of embers, leaving the leaves charred and black where she had been, and dove into a fallen, hallow log, still overhearing the ponies.

Stopping her exploration, Lone Blaze turned to face her inquisitor. "No, I don't know that it's dangerous." she said, a steel tone in her voice. "That's why I'm here; to see if there's truth to the rumors." she sighed, shaking her head. She doubted that this pony would understand.
She was trying to think of a way to get past him when she stopped, sniffing the air. It was very faint, covered by the...scent of the bog, but she could swear she smelt burning. She looked around a bit, trying to detect any signs of a fire. Nothing. "How odd..."

"I smell it too..." Aero moved closer to Blaze in an effort to shield her. He looked around for the source of the burning smell. "Do you hear that? Absolutely nothing...We're being watched."

Magma grinned to herself wickedly. "And what a clever pony he thinks he is," she muttered. Watched wasn't the half of it. She snuck out from her hiding area as they faced the other direction and went quietly among the trees, scorching them here and there, blazing a trail behind her of cinder and ash.

Lone Blaze didn't reply to the pegasus, nor did she look around. The smell of burning continued, but didn't much stronger. This wasn't a fire burning, at least not a natural one. They were being watched, but to what end; and by who? Now she turned around slowly, her eyes searching. She stopped when she saw the slightest wisp of smoke. Whatever it was, it was on the move. Sneaky, for something using fire.

"See anything?" Aero asked looking the other way from Blaze to make sure nothing could sneak up on them. "If you don't communicate with me, I can't know if you're in trouble." Whoever this was he was standing next to, she seemed pretty frigid but if it was the last thing he did, Aero was determined to get her out alive.

Magma encircled them, keeping a wide girth away from their position so to remain mostly out of site, save for the rushing of moist leaves under her steps and the sloshing they gave from her weight. It didn't even come close to sounding like hoofsteps. She kept brushing against the trees, using her residual heat to burn the bark and set up a smokescreen in a large circle with the intruders in the center. Soon, they would be surrounded by a ring of fog.

Despite the others encouragement, Lone Blaze remained silent as she looked around. Though she didn't show it, a note of worry was beginning to creep into her thoughts. "Something is out there." she said simply. "Alive. Very intelligent." she added as the smoke gathered. As far as she could tell, whatever it was was obstructing their view. Was it a trap, an attempt to separate them?
More importantly... "Attack...or defense?" she wondered as she began to think. There had to be a way to flush them out, or at least get some insight as to their intentions. Lone Blaze was not going to back down, not until she knew what was in the bog.

Aero noticed the smoke building up from the brush. "It is alive, and if it tries anything, we're dipping..." Aero turned to follow the path of the smoke and kicked a rock into the bushes to trip up whatever was causing it and possibly give them a chance to escape.
Aero was getting irritated by the lack of response from the unicorn but if it was the last thing he did, she'd leave the bog alive.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!" Magmarhyme let out a wicked cackle but the sound was carried away by the crackle and rustle of the leaves she pounded through as she continued her smokey trick. Everything was going according to--- rock? ROCK!!!! Magma had seen it roll into her path just before she tripped over it, giving her no chance to jump. She smashed into the floor with a loud thump and a squish, for the leaves still retained their boggy residue, and rolled several feet. Her momentum was stopped when she smashed into a tree in her path, her back smacking against the bark roughly and a sharp pain running through Magma's body. She let out a little squeal.
As soon as she had connected with the tree, however, she had lost control of her maintained heat and a small explosion emanated from her position. For the ponies within her smog circle, it would appear that something beyond the rim of the smoke had burst into flames at least five feet tall. Her personal nova weakened the tree and it fell away from Magma and her victims, crashing through the bog.
Magma watched the tree fall in a state of frozen shock. This wasn't quite what she had in mind. Her back now ached furiously, as well. "Uuuuuuuuuuuugh," she groaned as she got up and stretched the sore muscles. Throw a rock, will you?! Magma thought quickly.
Unaware, Magmarhyme had failed to notice the smoke start disappearing as she was no longer conjuring it.

Lone Blaze detected the ignition almost instantly, turning in the direction of the small explosion. "I think you got'em." she remarked, looking around at the thinning smoke. Without another word, she went deeper into the bog. She had a nasty feeling, and she hates those. If she was right, then this was bad. Her ear twitch as she heard a groan coming from not far into the bog.
"Hello? I know you're here, so you might as well come out." she called out, looking left and right.

Aero reached into the bush where the tree used to be and picked up magma in his teeth. He lifted her off the ground and threw her roughly into the middle of the brush. "A pony?" Great, now he felt guilty for hurting somepony. "Are you alright?" Aero backed away from Magma and stood between her and Blaze.

And Magmarhyme had intended to come out of her hiding now that her smoke was gone and she felt the ponies had been sufficiently tricked, but before her sore muscles let her move, she was heaved up by the scruff of her neck, caught in the teeth of another pony, and tossed carelessly aside. "Uwaaaaaaaaaah---snkt." A short scream and then the clicking of her jaw locking as she collided with the soggy ground.
She moaned again. Her plan had now completely failed. As she got up, she failed to notice that the wet soil and fallen leaves had wiped away the red ash from the half of her coat that touched the ground, revealing her black fur and, at least, a corner of her cutie mark. From one side she appeared to be a molten red pony caked in soot. From the other, a little black unicorn.
"No. No, I'm not alright!" Magmarhyme, of course, had no real cause for anger since she had started the whole affair. This, however, was lost on her explosive temper. "You're not supposed to be in the bog! You - you ponies - you don't belong here. Get out!" Her voice was quivering and altogether lacking anything but irritation. It sounded less like a threat and more like a child shooing away a younger sibling.
"GAH! WATER! WET! ALWAYS WET!" She raged vehemently and jumped, releasing embers around her and drying herself off through their warmth, still unaware of her crazed appearance as a half-red, half-black teen pony in the middle of a bog.
