Sea suddenly started to feel a bit uncomfortable as her thoughts shifted to her career. But she wasn't going to start showing weakness to some random stranger. Still, her voice lacked her earlier proud confidence when she began to speak again:
"I'm a hip hop musician, as a matter of fact. I was actually trying to compose a new beat on my piano, but my neighbors didn't like what I was making. Their loss," Sea said, accidentally letting some uncertainty slip into her voice. "Anyway, I thought I'd try writing some new rhymes instead. Thought some fresh air would help with that."

"Uh huh..." Klepto said slowly. He began moving his hoof through the dirt circles he had created. "And how's that goin' for ya?" Klepto paused for a second, wiping the dirt on his hoof onto his jacket. "And when you say 'Hip Hop', do you mean like... rap? You know, that thing where people recite poetry, except they try to be all loud and angry about it?"

Sea scoffed at the comment. "Don't compare me to those kinds of rappers," she said with indignity. "I make my own beats. I write about my own life - real life. And I make music only for myself." She paused for a moment, realizing how angry she had just gotten, and sat herself down to calm herself down.
"It's not my fault these idiots," Sea grumbled as she motioned toward the city around them, "don't get it."

Klepto frowned slightly, not really sure what to say. He hadn't intended to hit a sore spot. "Maybe it's an acquired taste. Ponies tend to have an initial distrust of new things. Surely if you kept at it long enough, some ponies would start to take interest in your work." Klepto paused for a moment, reexamining the pegasus. "If you're good at something and passionate about it, stick with it no matter what. I should know. I live by that motto every day."

Sea couldn't stand to look at the earth pony head on - she was too embarrassed for letting herself lose her cool like that. Getting upset like that was a sign of weakness, which was the last thing she wanted to show to anyone. Silently she promised herself not to let it happen again. So to that end, she decided to change the subject as quickly as possible. "So what are you passionate about, then, Mr. Not-a-hobo?" she asked. After asking the question, Sea realized that she still hardly knew anything about the strange earth pony on her roof. She became more curious. "What is it that you do exactly, that you'll 'stick with it no matter what'?"

"Me?" Klepto asked, somewhat startled. He realized that he foolishly had practically invited the pegasus to investigate his career. As much as he had begun to warm up to her, revealing that he was a thief could quickly shatter their acquaintance. The last thing Klepto wanted was to be shooed off to another roof, let alone possibly being warned about by the authorities. "I... uh... hang around on roofs I guess... and get mistaken for a hobo," he responded nervously, hoping that the paper-thin statement would at least give him more time to come up with something better.

Sea became annoyed at the earth pony's response. She had briefly yet inadvertently showed her vulnerable side with a stranger, and here he was, making insubstantial claims about his own life - how was that fair?
"Come on, that's weak!" Sea said with a tone of mild annoyance. "You said you traveled a lot, right? You gotta have a reason."

"Nope. Not really," Klepto said, smiling nervously. "I mean... uh... if all you did was sleep on other ponies' roofs, surely you'd have to move around a lot, right? Otherwise somepony might catch onto what you're doing, and... uh... you could get run out of town with, like, pitchforks or something." Klepto found himself inadvertently avoiding eye contact with the pegasus, and began focusing on moving his hoof through the remaining dirt circles he had made.

Sea stared at the strange earth pony for a brief moment. And then she started giggling, her wings inadvertently unfolding as she held a hoof to her mouth to stifle the laughter.
"What a load of horseapples!" said the pegasus pony in light manner, her annoyance seemingly vanished. "You're passionate about napping on other ponies' roofs, but you travel a lot because you're afraid they're going to run you out of town for - what, loitering? I'm sorry, Mr. Not-a-Hobo, but you're full of it!" Sea grinned at the yellow-maned pony. "Maybe you do travel a lot, but it's not because you're afraid of being caught sleeping on somepony's roof."

Klepto frowned at the pegasus. "I have my reasons," he finally said. "They're just not on a 'you-need-to-know' basis. Besides, where's the fun in life without a few secrets? Fillies like a colt with an air of mystery surrounding him," Klepto added jokingly.

Sea laughed. "Pff, with you, it's more like an air of clumsily-made excuses," she joked back. "But you're right, it's not my business. Keep your reasons to yourself if you want," said the pegasus, smirking, as she stood back up and folded her wings. "But can I at least get a name? Or should I keep calling you Not-a-Hobo?"

"Fine. You can get a name," Klepto said, examining the pegasus. "But I want one from you as well." He looked out towards the skyline for a brief second, seeing the glow of the lights and tips of the taller buildings scraping the edge of the horizon. "Klepto," he said, turning back to the pegasus. "Klepto Moonlit. Now what's yours?"

Klepto. The pegasus pony could finally place a name on the strange earth pony. Sea thought it was kind of an odd name, but she liked it. It was unique - easy to remember. But she was still very curious about that colt. After all, it wasn't every day she met a pony like him - a kind of strange traveling hobo pony. She was interested in knowing more. A name wasn't much, but at least it was something. It'd have to do for now.
"Klepto," she said, slowly trotting over to him. "Name's Sea Swell." She held out a leg for a hoofshake.

Klepto looked at the Sea Swell's hoof before shaking it with his own. It had been the first in a long time that he had actually 'gotten to know' somepony, even if she was just a completely random stranger whose roof who happened to be sleeping on. He wondered whether or not he would remember her after eventually leaving Manehattan.
"So, 'Sea Swell', did you have any other reason for being up here besides 'getting fresh air'?" Klepto laid back down on his back, staring up at the moon. "I'm pretty sure that's why they invented windows, or something like that."

"Well, I was starting to feel a bit claustrophobic in my apartment." Sea trotted over to the ledge, spreading her wings and gently tilting her head around to stretch her neck muscles. "Needed to stretch my legs a bit too. Can't look this 'swell' just by hanging around in my room all day, you know?" she said with a bit of a vain grin, stretching and flexing to show off. She wasn't a body builder nor a marathon runner, but she always took pride in staying relatively muscular and slim.
