"Getting water from a rock, eh? No way I'll be able to do that."
Having said this, Tunnel walked up to Hefty and tossed him a bit. Taking a medium-sized rock in her hooves, she pushed with only a fraction of her strength on it. Nexus exaggerated her facial expressions, as well as letting out fake grunts of frustration, even going so far as to start rolling around on the ground in mock fury and effort. Only a few seconds passed before she couldn't hold back her giggles any more and she collapsed in a heap of laughter.

Morrow Rose chuckled, smiling in agreement with the hyperactive pony she just met. It wasn't quite easy to follow her, even at a rather normal speed she spoke quite a lot, but she appeared to be a pretty kind, and interesting pony. "Good, point there, ZipFyre, she can be quite a cheerful and happy singer, especially in the morning, but that's my time of the day anyhow."
As s he noticed quite a nice crowd of ponies had gathered by now and even talking with her. That was surely better than seeing sleepy eyed faces in the morning mumbling a greeting, but on the downside now she was closer to looking just as sleepy. Still for the sake of meeting new ponies she decided to stay up.
She took some sips of cider, and tried here and there off the buffet before she heard of that challenge spoken out, "Squeezing water from a stone?" She looked quite puzzled, as she had to admit. She blushed a bit, "I never heard of that before. If there's a trick, I'd need a coffee first, for think-making, you know?"
She jumped up as Tunnel Nexus rolled around on the ground next to her, suddenly. Quickly she joined in into the giggling, even though she was not sure, but it was just too addictive a happy atmosphere.

ZipFyre laughed as Nexus faux-struggled with the stone, she'd never heard of the challenge before, but wasn't very interested in trying herself unless she could think up something plausible. "I dunno. I might not know much, Hefty, but my ma did teach me: If ya keep doin' th' same thing, yer gonna get the same result." For a moment, Zip was tempted to try breaking the rock open, but a hot apple tart caught her eye and she remembered she hadn't had any dinner yet.

Dont let that get you down this isnt a contest or brawn but rather a contest of brains. Hefty gave a hearthy chuckle at his own pun and went on: You three had the right idea indeed that rock aint letting out a drop of water no matter how much you squueze or yell at it.
Say you two aint related are you? Hefty said looking at Morrow Rose and Zipfyre. Hups that one question had seemed to come out of his mouth with out consulting his brains at all.

"So this squeezin' water from a stone ain't actually requirin' strength. Well, if there's bits of ice in the rock, boilin' it over a fire might do the trick. Then again I'm just a simple country pony with pie in the sky thoughts."

Tunnel's laughter died down to a sporadic chuckle as she she got back onto her hooves.
"Well, that was fun," she said, munching on a salt cube. "What do you ponies want to do next?"
The spelunker looked around, bored slightly. The rocks comprising the ring shape piqued her curiosity; forgetting her question, she trotted over and inspected one.
"Hey, um... Hefty, was it? What are these for?"

Morrow kept giggled for a while after Tunnel Nexus rolled around on the floor, it was just too funny. Why did she even do that funny stunt in the first place. Oh right, that was it, that funny contest to get water from a stone.
She looked again and again over the stone in question, but no idea came to her. The stone itself would never release any water... For some reason nine dots and four lines came to her mind, but the delivery Pegasus had no idea where that thought came from now.
Stone. Water. Nine dots. Related.... Wait, what? Morrow looked up surprised and needed a moment to make sure Heft was talking to her and ZipFyre. Related? Morrow chuckled amused, while she eventually got herself a coffee. Knowing her metabolism, it would only get her slighty more awake now, but it was such a nice blend. Was that cinnamon in it?
"I can see where you get the idea from, two blue eyed Pegasi, but, nope, we are not related. Unless my parents are better in keeping secrets, than I'd expect. Of course I can't rule out some cousin third degree of a great uncle's twin brother's I-don't know..."
Her old friend, Apple Cider, bright her thoughts back on the challenge at hoof. That stone. Morrow tapped a front hoof at her chin and looked over the stone again. Nine dots. Four lines. Why did she always get those thoughts?
Curious now she did draw nine dots in the dust below her hooves and tried to connect them with four lines, but failed again and again. There us no good in this. I can't get outside the square ... wait, which square. There is none, but...
It was quite the light-bulb moment, as she got an idea. Maybe a silly one, but worth a try. So she opened her purse and took a bit coin out of it and tossed it over to Hefty.
With a big smile she placed the stone on the glass' rim, still leaving some gap at the sides. She grabbed then for a nearby carafe with water and poured it over the stone, the transparent liquid flowing over the rock and dripping into the glass.
Having the carafe placed back she gave a sheepish grin to the ponies around her, "... you said water from the stone, not water out of the stone. Does that count?"

ZipFyre almost started to follow Nexus to the ring of rocks, but paused when she saw Morrow Rose's solution. Her jaw slackened before she busted up laughing. She didn't know if that was the answer or not, but it was plum clever! "Hefty, I muss say ya sure know how t' flatter a mare! If'n I was related ta that there pegasus, I'd be brighter 'n' Einstein!"

Heftys jaw let out a hollow THONK as it hit the boards surface and his eyes shined as he pushed over the pile of bits to Morrow Rose: Well Ill be pegasuses uncle I never in all my years all pulling this trick have seen or thinked to try that clever little trick miss Rose you sure as sugar have earned your reward. Hefty could hardly fight back the urge jump up and down from sheer glee somepony had not only figured out the challenge but done it a way he never thought. This was going to be story worth telling of course in his version the reward would have to be a dragons hoard and he would have change the locale and he could hardly be in his own story but he could replace himself with a dragon... the line of thought went on for some time.
Oh Sorry Nexus I was lost in thought that circle serves as a fireplace see those firewood and lumber piled up there in the middle in a hour or so it will be lit and the dare I say highlight of the festivities begin... Oh and you will want to carve out your name stones before that since we will doing some earth pony magic with them so to speak. After his last remark Hefty gave a conspiratory smile.
Miss Cider your idea was not far from the truth you see the stone I use to pull this one off myself is Salt Gypsym it has tiny holes in it that gather moisture and if given some pressure and warmth it drips water. Hefty said realizing he had overlooked one contestant.

"Well I must say that was quite a brain teaser ya got there, Hefty," Apple Cider said as she helped herself to a slice of apple pie in the refreshment table, "I like things like that to keep mah brain active." She then remembered the stones that Hefty mentioned about carving a pony's name. "Looks like I got ta carve my name on one of them stones. Can ya tell me where I can find somethin' to etch my name on one of these stones?"

"If the highlight's coming up soon, I'd better get carving... I can't wait to see what this 'earth pony magic' could be." said Nexus to herself with a smile. She looked around for the biggest rock in the circle. Finding it, she pulled out a climbing piton from her saddlebag (there was always some random equipment in there) and began chipping very large letters right smack in the middle of it, making sure that each letter had some kind of lightning bolt or fiery streak in it.

Had it just been a sheepish green, Morrow Rose was outright blushing now. Sure, she found the... a solution to the challenge, but the following spot light on her was a bit bright.
She didn't even really expect that her idea would count, but it sounded like a good idea to her at the moment and worth an amused chuckle afterward.
That thought, she called herself to pony up and just go with the happy atmosphere in the crowd of ponies around her. She really could get used to this, if it weren't for the late day time...
Seeing Zip's and then Hefty's reaction didn't really leave her with any other reaction but to burst out giggling. Especially the pony who brought up the challenge in the first place seemed to be so excited now! "It was just what first came to mind, when I thought ouside the square-"
Not entirely sure if anypony followed her little mind games earlier, she pointed out the hoof drawns scribbles on the dusty floor, "Also, it was fun and that's what counts! And now that I am slightly richer-", she chuckled at the obvious joke, "Drinks are on me, everypony. Get yourself some of A.C.'s great cider as long as it lasts!"
Afterward, she listened interested to Hefty explaining the salt gypsym and mentioning the name stones. Earth pony magic, now that sounded interesting enough as it was. Morrow never really thought much about magic, as that was an Unicorn thing, but wasn't all of Equestria a magical land?
"So we carve our names in any of those stones and then-", she didn't really expect the secret being given away that soon, but her curiousity and attention were fully awoken. "Nexus, mind if I borrow that uh- chisel-thingy there next? And maybe A.C. after me then? That'd be great!"

"Dohn mind if I do." ZipFyre trotted to the stand and filled a glass of cider, slurping happily while she watched the others start carving their names. "If'n nopony else is, I'll go after A.C. Hey Hefty, there wouldn't be no paints 'r somethin' ta add some pizzazz ta them there rocks, would there?" Out of habit, Zip glanced about for her little brother, spotting him next to a smaller stone, smearing cider-mud all over. "Ah fer the luva Pete. Flash, you've gone done made a messa yerself agin. An' lookit yer blanket, too! Filthy, jist filthy." Zip put down her glass and trotted to her brother, shaking her head. "Looks like you'll be gettin' a bath tahnight, mister." Flash looked up, a scowl on his muddy face. "No baf!" To emphasize his point, Flash flung a hoof-full of mud in Zip's face. "Heehee! Now Sissy baf!"

``There should be a few chisels over there by the stones and as for paint i am afraid all we got is red mud.
And Deputy Zipfyre you may want to tuck that lil rascal to sleep or I guarantee you hes not going sleep at all tonight because of all the upcoming exitement.
As for whats going to be done with the stones I guarantee its show that wont leave no pony cold.ยดยด Hefty spoke while looking at the ponies in question one at a time.Hefty knew well that he was maybe stretching the theatretics a bit too far but what was show with out some carefull preparation of the audience.

Apple Cider smiled as her friend Morrow advertised her cider to the other ponies. Patiently she waited her turn to carve her name into one of the stones, wondering what kind of magic would happen with them. Sure she was an earth pony and knew that her kind were very inturned with nature especially farming, but she didn't have much experience with seeing much magic being done.
