Hefty knew how to start rumors and how to make them spread like wildfire. In a small town like Appleloosa it was especially easy since almost everypony knew one and other, all he had to do was pick the gossipy ones and spread the word of the upcoming event. A Midwinter celebration just like in his foalhood, and just like back then it would not be advertised like some cheap carnival fare but rather the knowledge would spread with the town rumors and gossips. This was important it was tradition the midwinter celebration was not like summer holidays it was quiet and respectfull honoring the winter past and the summer to come. And of course the perfect place to tell the town his newest tale. Now all that was left was to gather the props for the evening first he had to spend some of his bits to get everypony who would show up something to keep them warm trough the celebration and to buy few tools that they would be needing in the celebration like chisels and mallets. Maybe he should have gone to the town authorities after all he was going have to cut a few corners to make his bits last but sometimes it was just easier to do things yourself in order to avoid arguments. Only two days to go until the Celebration Hefty was sure it would go through with out a hitch.
Now to do some shopping.
New Rumor: Somepony was having a Winter celebration at sundown two nigths from now and it would be a blast from the past everypony was welcome to come and there was a big surprise number at the end of the celebration at midnigth.
-----------------------------Two Days later-------------------------------
Boring that's the word Hefty was thinking of this was boring preparing his favorite winter holiday should not be boring. But it was sneaking supply's to the site in saddlebags took infuriatingly many trips and gathering large stones in a circle larger than a adult pony in diameter was hard work for the out off shape pony. And of course gathering wild apples and firewood was time consuming and boring not once or twice jealousy reared its ugly head when he though how much easier all this could be if he was a Pegasus just zoom! zoom and he could have shipped all the supplies from town in minutes instead of hauling them during the course of a day. Which reminded him that's his back still ached from all that work. Or if he were a unicorn he could just zap those dam rocks in place but no he had to be an earth pony and everything had to be done by hoof. Focus Hefty just roll few more stones in to the circle and it will be ready he kept telling himself until the last stone was in place.
Judging from the sun there should be another hour or two before sundown so he could take a little nap just few minutes of peaceful slumber before the celebration.

ZipFyre tried to refrain from lifting off as she darted through the streets, only glancing around to make sure all was peaceful. She knew she should be doing her job better, but her excitement made it difficult to go any slower than an all-out gallop down the dirt roads of Appleloosa. Some of the ponies she whipped by gave her frightened looks and she saw a few of them even looking around for some non-existent fire. She wondered for a moment if Sheriff Silverstar would mind that she got her rounds done so fast. Being a deputy-in-training was great, but sometimes it had rules that clashed with ZipFyre's carefree attitude. Zip giggled and skid to a stop in front of the Sheriff's office, only slightly out of breath. Without missing a beat, she peeked her head in the doorway and grinned at Sheriff Silverstar. "All quiet on the western front, sir. Be seein' ya later tonight!" Without waiting for a response, ZipFyre dashed back out to the pleasant, chilly night air, glancing at the stars for a moment. "Not tonight, old friends. I got me a hoe-down to get to!" Zip almost crashed into her house, slid across the wooden floor, and jumped the stairs six at a time. "ZipFyre! How many times have I told you not to fly in the house!" "I didn't fly, ma! I gotta hurry or we'll be late! D'y'all got the pies ready? I'll get them nice, cozy blankets Baby ZipFlash likes and my jacket." ZipFyre rummaged through her trunk in her room, tossing bits of clothing into the air in her rush. Having found her jacket, she turned to the linen closet and pounced. She didn't even look back at the havoc she'd wreaked as she trotted down the stairs and draped one of the blankets over her baby brother. "C'mon! Let's go!"

Apple Cider noticed the rumors spreading about a Midwinter Celebration. It sounded like it was going to be a great party, and Apple Cider loved parties, especially using it as a way to promote her cider company. She strolled out towards the main street heading towards the party area. "Well it looks like a mighty fine night fer a party. I can't wait to see what's been planned."

ZipFyre spotted Apple Cider in the train of ponies approaching a large circle of rocks that couldn't have been there earlier that day. Well braid my tail! Somepony's put a lotta work inta this. I hope they had proper help... She thought. It took a moment before Zip realized she'd bumped into somepony. She looked up and gave an apologetic smile when she saw it was the same pony she'd glanced at earlier. So the saying "You go where you look" had some truth to it, after all. "Sorry, Cider. My hooves've done run away with me agin. I didn't hurt you none, did I?"

Ah the power nap had done a world of good to Hefty He could hardly contain himself when he saw the first pony's trickle to the site. The population of Appleloosa had taken a rise since his childhood and he could no longer brag that he knew everypony in town.
Hefty checked that no pony had disturbed the fire wood or the stone circle guarding it. Satisfied with his findings Hefty turned to the line of ponies coming on site brushing last specks of dust of his suite as he armed himself with his friendliest grin welcoming ponies and pointing them to the refreshments. He couldn't help to wonder if they would last. Well he would worry about all that later right now he wanted to shake hoofs with old friends and perhaps meet the newer pony's of appleloosa.
Hefty gave a genuine smile and felt better than in days just the pleasant murmur of the crowd and the few familiar faces were enough to make him feel at ease. Until some ruckus in the crowd caught his attention apparently somepony had been going to fast and bumped in to somepony else. Nopony is hurt are they?: Hefty asked half joking.

"That's ok ZipFyre," Apple Cider said. She knew anout the pony, especially that she was the duputy in training. Word traveled fast in Appleoosa, and Apple Cider was sure to learn about any new events. "It takes much more that a simple bump ta knock me down," Apple said to the new pony, "By the way, mah name's Apple Cider. What's yer name?"

ZipFyre grinned at Apple Cider. "Please, call me Zippy. I'm plum glad I didn' hurtcha." She turned to the other pony, a stallion and, by the way he was greeting everyone else, the host. What was his name again? Zip prided herself on her name recollection and, being deputy-in-training, was pretty confident she knew about everyone here. "Wait, don' tell me, I know it... Testy, Deftly, Lefty... Haha! Hefty! Hefty Draught!" She paused. "Am I right?"

The Deputy is right miss cider I am Hefty Draught and its a pleasure to meet you: Hefty finally said after a brief chuckle. Turning his attention to the red pegasus, now he was certain he heard her name before.... Aha! Zipfyre. And you must be the latest addition to the law and order of appleloosa Zipfyre was it?
Sparing a quick glance behind him Hefty made sure everything was going peacefully satisfied that there was no problem needing his immidiate attention he returned his focus back to the conversation.
But where are my manners let me welcome you to the midwinter festivall. Over there behind all those hungry ponies there are the refreshments and near that pile of rocks youll find some mallets and chisels which you can use to carve your name in to one those stones. Youll be needing them at midnight. Hefty said pointing his hoof and wearing his welcoming smile.

ZipFyre perked up at the mention of food. "Oh! That reminds me, Hefty. Mah folks brought some extra pies 'n stuff'n case yeh needed 'em. Where d'yeh wannem?" Zip glanced behind her to see her family just now catching up to her. Her little brother, ZipFlash, wore a blue blanket that seemed to swallow his tiny body whole. ZipFyre grinned. "This here's mah family. Mah baby brother, ZipFlash, my ma and my pa. Guys, this is our host, Hefty Draught."

Its a pleasure to meet you all but I afraid that calling myself a host of this great gathering would be pretentious i am only the doorman here: Hefty proclaimed with feigned modesty he couldnt help but to feel that this would be his single greatest show ever all he had to do was keep up the mystique and wonder which would serve as the base for his midnight surprise and he couldnt lie to himself. he enjoyed the attentio,n something he felt was maybe beoynd his years. But I see you have brought some much welcomed variation to our nights menu which I am afraid is so far apples, apples, water and hay. The serving tables are right there behind those hungry ponies. Hefty said with a grin and continued allowing it to split his head. My own ma always said nothings as hungry as pony with table laden with free food after a long days work.

"Looks like you brought the whole family with ya, Zippy. Nice to see everypony wanting to participate in the gatherin. Actually, I think I might have some of that food ye got there. I did save up an appetite." With that Apple Cider walked to the table and began placing several food items on her plate.

ZipFyre grinned and started helping her parents empty the cart. "Looks like Ah've betta git these here fiddles on th' table, then. Afore everypony reelizes they're eyes're bigger'n their stomachs." She winked as she passed with a load of fresh-baked apple pies. "T'would be a surefire pity if'n these here pies wasn't eaten afore they got cold, ain't that right, Cider?"

Tunnel Nexus had only been in town for a few days, and already there were rumors about a party? Appleloosa was a NICE little place. Nex decided to check out this little party, see what the ponies were like.
The night came, and Tunnel was ready; with her trusty shades, a neon green-and-orange scarf, and a saddlebag full of salt, the gray spelunker started trotting out to the appointed location. It was a crisp Winter night, the stars shining like beacons overhead and the air nipping at her ears. She especially appreciated the darkness, her sensitive eyes adjusting comfortably to the moonlight. Soon, she could see a ring of stones in the distance with a few ponies clustered around it.
"Hmf. Now THAT looks interesting. I can't wait to get this party started!"

Bed, my bed, I think I hear it calling, Morrow Rose yawned and stretched her wings off her body to shake the sleepiness out of them. She already had a long nap and even more coffee in her system, but it was getting darker already and her biological clock said it was sleepy time.
She loved the morning, no doubt, but today she wanted to stay up late! Midwinter Celebration, that sounded just too nice! Unfortunate it was way off her bio rhythm, but there was the big chance to socialize more with other ponies.
It was not like she didn't celebrate holidays back in Manehattan, but it was just not the same. A Midwinter Celebration sounded much like a great, dark and clear sky with myriads of stars and a full moon - and back in the Big Apple city, the light pollution of all the buildings and lanterns easily shone over the stars above.
So, Morrow, with her pet bird sitting comfortable on her paper pony-hat dragged herself through the streets, barely above the ground and eventually found herself near a table with food on it and another pony placing food on a plate.
The freckled delivery Pegasus yawned long and intense and blushed just as much, "Sorry, I'm just not a evening pony, but I want to see-", with those words she turned to the other pony and suddenly was a good deal more awake, "AC! Oh, I'm sorry, my mind was totally who knows where! How are you enjoying the event so far? Who else is all around?"
She rubbed her eyes with a front hoof and had a good look around herself. There were quite some ponies and, as she just noticed - coming back to her senses - it was freezing fresh cold, "I guess I'll have a coffee... Another coffee, beats freezing and sleeping."
