Lilly was in complete abstraction by the stories of the new passengers, clapping and getting as excited as the ones telling them. Most of the rest of the crew listened as well, but not as involved as their captain. -It's sooo cool they are doing especial effects and everything!!- Lilly said to LJ, who seemed rather worried. -... You sure that somebody Feathermains age should go around doing all those movements...? Lilly ignored her nakamas comment anf clapped joyfully as the gryphon finished his story. - That was so awesome!!! And you did all that in a single day?!? Also Ciniki have you been to the part of the zebra savannas where they have manticores ? As the pegasus kept throwing lots of questions at both story tellers, the rest of the crew kept attention on how close to the supposed lake they were. -If somepony doesn't make this ignorant and racist bird soon I will- Ondineas mutterings were stopped by Pochzes paw landing on her shoulder. -There will always be guys like this, Ondi. Just ignore him -the little diamond dog said with a smile. Penny, who hadn't stopped staring at the horizon, called LJs attention as they got close enough to the lake. -Hey guys I can see the shiny thing better now!- Lunar said as she held herself to the balustrade to get a better look of the lake. Lilly, who was sweating like a... something that sweats too much for its size... Who was sweating like a Lilly! Because of not being able to drink her usual amounts of liquid (be it cider most of the time) ran to the balustrade as well to peek at the lake. -So? Does it look like it has water? I need water!! -We have the less capable narrator of the whole forum- Blau said, and was ignored like everytime he says anything, because he always says craziness that nobody else (maybe not even himself) understands.

"A single day?" Interjected Feathermain, in his usual bravado, "Goodness no. It was... perhaps three days. Not entirely sure, tell you the truth; following the king's tax collector, everything became a bit hazy. There was the sand storm, the fair hen's vessel... that night, dancing on deck to the recordings of Franz Sorbet with drink and laughter..." His voice trailed off, reminiscent of a night gone past. "Why, I lost all count. If not for that sticky hooved pony suffering in the sand, I'd have stayed with that hen till the end of my days..." Clearly he was lost in the memory - false or true, it wasn't apparently clear, as he sat his rear upon a barrel of tar which sat beside the railing.
When upon the call for the water rang out, Feathermain leapt at the opportunity to interject his opinion. "Give me that, ignorant baboon!" Feathermain snapped as he snatched the spyglass from Penny and gazed into it's lens, "Ah excellent. Water indeed, though, based on surface shine... It may be salt. But, do not fret, I know how to make a filter. One problem, it's completely useless for herbivores. In fact, it may kill all of you in a rather terrible fashion. Salt poisoning is a rather harsh and tragic death. Or... I may be wrong, this sun is not what I'm use too... honestly, not sure if this is even our actual sun - Celestia's rays can't melt salt pillars and, frankly, this sun is hot enough to melt the dunes."

Ciniki sat idly on the side rolling her eyes at Feathermains tall tail which everypony seemed absolutely fascinated with. Oh well she enjoyed a good fiction every now and again. Part way ghrough the story Ciniki dazed off watching glee the sky and lost within her own thoughts. She didn't return to the land of the living until the announcement of water.
Leaning over the side of the ship Ciniki smiled at the sight of a body of water. She was parched and ready to dive right in. "See just as told the body of water over the mountains bold". Remembering now that Lilly asked her a question "yes I have been to that part of the land but that is a tale for when my mouth is not made of sand."

"Auburn, we stop here!!" The cheerful mare yelled to make herself heard by her shipwreck, as from the ships insides he made the ship slowly stop and lower itself, almost unconsciously but precisely moving countless levers and checking the barometers and other measuring instruments. "Zolu, Shady!! Get Cinikis cart off before Auburn crushes it with the ship!!" Lilly continued, as her nakama followed orders with out delay "now, WATUUURR!!!" she said as she flew off the ship followed by some of the crew. She landed in the wet border of the shiny lake, and splashed some water with her hoof. "You should be more careful, Cap! This water surely attracts more nasty creatures appart fro-" but Pochzes warning was cut by the mare's shouting. "Ondi, you can tell with your water witchcraft, right?" she asked her medic that was still on the Wandering "Can we drink it?" She started down at the calm and clear water, making funny faces at her reflection, soon followed by Penny.

Feathermain would have popped a monocle, if he were wearing one; to believe there was actually a seemingly lush oasis in this desolate region, and one not made of boiling salt water and algae! It practically looked drinkable. He contemplated the implication of this discovery, had he been right all along or was it just a lucky guess? Truth be told, he just assumed there was water over here based in the glimmer, could have easily been a mirage, glass, a weird crystal structure left over from some lost, surprisingly sparkly though fragile, pony race? He had no way to know.
He wouldn’t stand idly by while the others claimed this discovery for themselves, when the troupe left to indulge themselves – he had to make it known whose lake this was! For King and Kingdom (Queendom)! He tossed himself over the side and glided down to the water’s edge, landing split upon the water and sand. He hastily took a stick from the ground, ripped a section of cloth from his vest and plucked a feather from his crest, together they created a small slapdash ‘griffon flag’, which he triumphantly planted in the shoreline. “I, Sir Feathermain, of the Royal Lodge of Hunters, hereby claim this body of water for the Griffon Kingdom henceforth and forever, so long as this flag flies over this land. Ancestors save –uh, whoever’s in charge at this moment!” He stood proud, beside his flag as he boasted his claim before the others. He interrupted his pose to fix the now leaning makeshift flagpole. Though, it was all for not, as the moment he let go, it begun to lean again. After a moment, a wayward buzzard swooped down and snatched the flag up from its place and took to the sky with it. “Hah, it’s still flying very this land! Hail griffons!” He sat back on his haunches in the sand, talons at his side pridefully, as a tear formed from an eye as he watched it disappear past the horizon, “I’m… getting all choked up seeing it soar so majestically.”

The water did indeed look very inviting and pure. After blazing in this heat nothing would feel better than a swim in the clear refreshing waters. When her cart was lowered from the ship, Ciniki happily ran to the water about to dive head first until Feathermain rushed over and started blasting again. She was getting real tired of his false superiority. "Listen here heathen! We already know we'll enough we are in the Griffin territory! I am getting rather irritated with you between this and your Story!" She continued. "Not to mention your insults to my intellect or my species. The air between us is filled with tension." Walking up to him now and poking her hoof on his chest several times. "Get your head right, Mr.Griffon, before I show these pirates a very gruesome sight!"
Ciniki the promptly turned to face the pirates medic waiting for a response to the question about the waters cleanliness. The water looked pure enough and the thirst she felt in her throat made her almost want to dive in anyway.

The wise zebra soon catched up to her friends, ignoring the old gryphon and hot-tempered zebra as she trotted past them, opening her way through her crew mates to get a better view of the water body. Analyzing the atmosphere, she waved her hoof over the surface, drawing and infinite shape over and over the water. "Hmm..." "What, what?! Ondi don't tell me we can't drink it!" Lilly made funny looking angry faces to the water, that twisted her reflection and made it look even sillier. "No, no, it's not that, don't worry we have drunk worse stuff, but... What said Pochze is really logic... Wasn't it too easy?" she didn't had her captain's attention anymore, but she was talking more to herself anyway. "It is? I'm right, right? This place is suspicious!" Pochze said happily and feeling useful as he sniffed the air. "Yes. Isn't it also like, too windy for the desert? Something is wrong here... Also those dust clouds rising from the horizon..." Back in the Wandering, Indigo, Jet and Auburn were left in charge for the ship, and the rest got off, reaching for the oasis, in hopes everything went ok and they could get their water supplies filled again. "I don't trust that bird. We shouldn't be playing taxi!" Shadowstrike kept making his annoyance visible "and what's with the zebra? Is Lilly planing to dragg her along as well?" "Jeez compadre, your mood is certainly more loathsome than usual. Can't you trust Lilly like you usually do?" the gryphon flying before him petted the snake curled in his neck, making sure she wouldn't fall. "This isn't a time to be around trusting blindly like Lilly does, specially for "outlaws" like us. They will try something." "Oh you emo kid, even if we end up caught or something, we'll just do a gracious escape like we have done before, now relax for once would you?" The dark blue pony grumbled and decided to stop arguing with his ridiculously optimistic nakama, keeping his voice for himself "Idiot. War times aren't times to relax."

Feathermain was taken back by Ciniki's tirade, from his perspective, he thought they were hitting it off swimmingly. Now, all of the sudden, she had turned a complete 180 - without warning or provocation. In the moment her rant ended and she turned, he weighed what could have suddenly caused her to so dramatically change her demeanor. Was it something he said? No, that was silly, he was a brilliant orator, waxing poetic with every sentence. Did she hate flags? Maybe that was it? Rather silly, he thought, who could hate such a colorful symbol, especially a griffon flag with all its majesty. Whatever it may be, he figured on remedying it and he had the perfect idea - something he learned from ponies years ago. A zebra was like a pony right? Just lacking in pastel colorfulness and modern civility.
He approached Ciniki and tapped her on the side, "Apologies if my flag offended, I am a sentimental old bird. To make amends may I offer you this in return-" Feathermain reached out with a talon to Ciniki's muzzle, extending a single curved, menacing talon and lightly tapped her nose. "Boop! There, all better!"
As he figured the situation was now rectified, he approached the others from the ship now on the bank of the oasis. "What's all this then? Trouble? Let Sir Feathermain assess the situation. From his jacket, he produced the spyglass once more, flicked to extend it and peered through. Though his eye against the glass for closed, his other was open and perfectly fine to see quite aways into the horizon. Why he really even needed the spyglass was dubious at best. "Curious indeed-" He said as he flicked the spyglass closed, then concealed it back in his jacket. He approached the oasis's bank, rummaged through a small satchel at his waist, removing a metal cylinder which he flicked open to make a cup, followed by single lime, cut into a quarter. He swept the cup into the water, then produced a flask of some sort of bitter liquid, combined the two, then squeezed the lime into the cup. He tossed the lime aside and took a sip from the metal, retractable cup. "Yup, that appears to be a haboob. Probably strip the flesh from our bones till they're polished white. Anyone want a sip?" He asked, flashing the cup to the others, rattling in his talons.

Ciniki was fuming! This birds skull was thicker than the scent of the crew! Her nose wiggled after he "booped" her nose, and then her hoof flew to her face and she shook her head slowly. It was a lost cause because she knew now this bird will never understand a word anypony says to him. Either that or he was to stubborn to listen to common sense! Making her way to the water, and after deciding it was best for her health to ignore the griffon, she knelt down and took a drink of the water. It wasn't as cool as it looked but it was still water. Realizing she was the first one to take a drink she hoped she could trust the judgment of the other Zebra.
She had never really trusted anypony else besides her father, and for good reason. As soon as she started to trust somepony else, she only ended up hurt or sick. Hopefully this time it would be different. The crew was a strange change for her and possibly a bad choice, but for now she trusted her gut and stuck with them. For now they were the best way to get around and her best chance of survival in this forsaken griffon land.
Once she had her fill and her throat was no longer parched, she looked up a tuned into what the crew was saying. The place did have an odd vibe to it now that they mentioned it. Her hoof came to her chest where she traced the familiar string of her bow. This all was to easy. "Miss Lilly I feel you should listen to your medic filly, this place gives me the feeling we will soon be under chase." Looking around slowly for any place something could hide. "I say we fill the water stores then head off to different shores."
