The door opened to a loud toad's croaking sound, a custom doorbell installed specifically for this season's upcoming Nightmare Night. The pony who entered was a rather remarkable teen, dressed in bright red and blue colors and in diamond formations, a frilly skirt and a red and blue diamond on each of her cheeks. She had applied heavy make up to her eyes so both looked like green raccoon eyes rather than actual pony eyes and her curly blonde mane was neatly rolling down her neck as she trotted inside. However, the one most remarkable thing about her, was that she was carrying a constant frown, rather than smile as her attire would suggest.
She began browsing around the shop, going through costume after costume, apparel after apparel and just pretty much tossing things about in search of whatever it was she was looking for. She didn't look to see if anyone was behind the counter, just began sweeping through the store like a hurricane, blowing exasperated sighs whenever a shelf or rack didn't have what she was looking for.

It had been a dreadfully long day for the golden-eyed colt who Watched over the store. Of course, he wasn't alone- His mother, the owner, was busy making her candy spider webs, as she always did this time of year. With all that was going on, Roulette was surprised to hear the door ring at all, and scrambled to say the line he had practiced for when customers arrived, "Welcome to--"
"--Ah." He watched the mare with a curious expression as she uprooted most of his work. Hanging and folding costumes wasn't easy when you couldn't do more than one at a time. One ear flopped in mild despair, Roulette slipped off of the chair and hobbled to the outlandish pony. "Is there anything--" He was momentarily silenced as a cloak was thrown over him on accident. Roulette poked his head out from under it, ears perked, "--I can help you with, ah, Miss?"
The colt wiggled out of the costume and folded it with his hooves before returning it to the shelf. Turning his attention back to the mare, Roulette swished his short tail and gave a shy smile, "M-My mother's in the back, but, ah, I know the store well too. What are you looking for?"

The teen filly's head peeked out from behind one of the racks, looked left, then right, then at the counter, having spotted no one however, she continued on her quest. Costumes came flying about with even more sighs. She dived into another rack soon after that and emerged from the other side with various costume pieces hanging off of her, she shook them off, still frowning and continued on to another shelf. "They have to have it." She said vaguely and moved to another section of the store, nearly tripping over Roulette.
"Whoa, oh, there's someone here. Were you the one talking? I'm looking for a costume, I want something dark and mysterious, but not cliche like a vampire or something."

"Not a vampire?" Roulette pondered this for a moment, "Well, you're in the wrong side of the store, miss! Or, ah, corner... This way!" He chimed and made his way to the opposite corner, where the colors of the costumes were significantly darker. "What about a bat, or a spider?" Concentrating, Roulette managed to pull both costumes from the top rack with a spell. He gave a gleeful smile, pleased with himself, and laid out both costumes for the mare. "Momma has some fake spiderweb, too, some that glows in the dark!"
"I'm afraid we're out of the glowing web, but we'll surely get some more before Nightmare Night, if you need." A dusty-colored Mare had poked her head out to make sure her son was alright. With a smile and a nod, Willow Wisp went back to work.
"Oh." Roulette frowned, "Well, um, no glowy web, then. Sorry."

"No, no, no." The teen shook her head, "I said not cliche, I need something unique! Something only I will be going as, something no one in all of Canterlot would be! Less than that simply won't do!" She said, the frown turning into a frustrated scowl as the teen began to rub her temples with her hooves. "There has to be something here that no pony can find anywhere else. Has to be, just has to be." She disregarded the costumes he presented to her and continued looking around, perhaps in hope she would find something else.
She dove into another rack and began sifting through each costume on it, throwing the occasional shoe across the store as she turned it inside out looking for something unique to go as.

Roulette, looking distraught, rushed after the mare with his ears down. "M-Miss!" He called, lowering his head, "A-Ah could, could you please, not... Throw everything? It's very hard to put up..." He bit his lip, grasping a stray hat in his teeth and placing it on the shelf.
Already upset over the costumes and shoes strewn across the ground, the same costumes and shoes he had spent the over four hours moving and folding. "What... What do you like? Um, we, we have... Shadow ponies... And sorcerers, and, oh!" he tugged on her skirt and limped to a box near the counter. He rummaged through it before pulling out a maroon dress, tattered at the edges, with bloodstains dotting it's seams. He also had a worn black and red corset-like top, a black rose on it's collar. Lastly, Roulette pulled out a fake blood kit and makeup, as well as a crown of bloodied black thorns and roses.
"This was for my momma's costume, but, um, I'm sure she'll let you buy it. She was going to be the queen of despair. My aunt made it, so, um, I doubt anyone will have it." he smiled at her, hoping she'd take it.

"Queen of Despair..." The teen repeated, "Queen of Despair," she said again, her eyes darting over the costume, "Oh yes, yes, this is perfect." Though she obviously seemed enthusiastic regarding this new costume, her face remained blank as a slate and her eyes flat, the same was true with the tone of her voice. An onlooker might even mistake her words for sarcasm, if she hadn't immediately picked up the costume and began looking for a changing room.
"I want to try it on." She said simply, hoping she could do so before buying it.
