(Hey, I'm new, and this is my first RP character on the site. I've decided to give one of my more light hearted and comedic characters a more in depth look on who he is and how he came to be… so those areas might be bigger reads than normal... Hope it turned out well anyway

Character Personality: Those that know him personally, whether on bad or friendly terms, have described scalpel as anywhere from “eccentric” to “outright insane”. He has a very twisted view of the world, and the ponies around him. He see’s everything as a broken puzzle; everything fits together in the grand scheme of things, and it’s up to him to patch things together again… however sometimes that requires taking other things apart to look at them closely. This belief of his directly relates to his medical skills, as he sees every sick or wounded body as another broken puzzle for him to mend.
Nopony knows why, but wherever he goes, he finds and keeps a protégé around. Whenever one of these “students” leaves (which happens often on account of his crazy behaviour) he mourns for all of 5 seconds and moves on to the next one. However, lately he has settled for just a “good friend” to keep around. No matter where he is, or who this friend is, he is blindly loyal and incredibly protective of them: willing to put his neck on the line at any moment to keep them safe.
His interactions with others are quite fractured as well; Scalpel will either love you or hate you. With no rhyme or reason he will say whatever comes to his mind. Usually he prefers to keep things as upbeat and happy as possible, and will happily make friends with any and all ponies. He has no sense of subtlety, but those who come to know him have learnt to deal with it. Despite his line of work, he usually means well... but is quite gullible because of his outlook, having been tricked on one occasion or another to help the wrong side.
Bio: Scalpel was born into a well-respected Stalliongrad family. His parents were noble mages of high regard, and as such expected the same brilliance out of their child. Scalpel could never meet up with their expectations, for his magic was somewhat… lacking. Scalpels abilities were always limited to telekinesis, no matter how hard he tried.
Setting his sights on a new goal, he promised himself that if he couldn't learn anything else, he would Dang well master what he had. But no matter how many days he put into training, no matter how precise he became, it was never enough for his father… which devastated poor young Scalpel. He would often exert his anger by using magic to pull the wings off of flies.
Every time he did mangle a fly, he immediately felt terrible afterwards, going as far as to glue the wings back onto the fly. Scalpel felt more comfortable whenever he did this, much happier when he was healing rather than hurting. It was here that he pledged never to hurt a living being, ever again… and as far as he is aware he has kept that pledge.
From that point on, he wasn’t hurting things… he was merely doing a scientific study, and whenever he was finished he would put them back together. Keeping this train of thought, he moved on to bigger things than simple house flies. Larger insects, eventually birds, cats, sometimes even dogs, were all on his list for “study”. To him, everything was fine as long as things ended up ok for the “patient” in the end.
He kept this train of thought, and unbeknownst to his parents his experiments continued. He tried all sorts of things, just to see what would happen when he did them. He learnt many skills during these times, most of which carried over to his current work.
However, he only truly became who he is today after a terrible turn of events.
It was well known that local crime lords had always seen Scalpels father as a threat, but none have ever decided to act on it, instead opting to bide their time. One mobster however, was more vigilant than the rest. He mapped out common routes that the family traveled, ambush spots, constantly trained, and when he finally felt himself ready... he struck.
It happened on a family outing, the sun was shining brilliantly, everything was going well. When they expected it most, the assassin sprung from an alleyway, sword swinging. Caught off guard, for his father, death was instant. The assassin, not wasting anytime, decided to leave the scene before he could strike Scalpel down, seeing as how the poor boy could barely even cast Telekinesis he was barely seen as a threat. While the assassin ran off to become the hero of the underworld, Scalpel quickly rushed to his still barely breathing mothers side.
He quickly began applying everything he had discovered by himself, going through every maneuver like he had the procedure on muscle memory… (Which he in fact did) and after he had finished, it looked as if she was going to be alright. His main worry was the amount of blood she had lost. Unknown to him, this is where he gained his cutie mark, but he didn’t have time to check or care. He picked up his mother, and did the next thing he could think to do… rush to the hospital. By the time he got there, his mother had long since passed.
The next few years have been spent recreating himself. The mental scarring had taken its toll... but Scalpel, for the most part, seems to be stable enough to work with. Because of his questionable sanity and procedures, he was unable to get a medical license and work legitimately. Scalpel didn't let this stop him, he instead went on to be a Back alley mob doctor, working for ludicrously cheap prices, no questions asked. While moving from place to place, on the run from the law, he has gained a level of infamy... and is usually the go to pony when somebody needs work done fast and cheap.
