1. The Equiterian Empire
There is little known beyond the founding of Equestria over a thousand years ago. What is known is that at the time a massive empire, known as the Equiterian Empire ruled most of the known world. Of the Empire itself not much is known other that it was comprised almost entirely of powerful unicorns. Almost all ponies in Equestria are in a way descendant from the Equiterians, who were, unlike regular ponies, large horses more or less of Celestia's physical stature. They were capable of great magic and had a civilization that was able to sustain itself perfectly - that is until one day they simply vanished off the face of the planet with no hint or trace as to what happened to them. To this day expeditions are sent to try and figure out what happened to them and more Equiterian Ruins are popping up all over the world, revealing little bits of the puzzle each time.
2. The Dragon Wars
The Founding of Equestria and rise of the Alicorns are the first events in written pony history, with King Chronos and Queen Galaxia being the first rulers of Equestria. For a time Equestria lived mostly peacefully. But then the newly founded Griffon Kingdom stirred up a hornets nest when they inadvertently started the Dragon Wars.
The Dragon Wars started by a mining accident in Ironside Mountain, causing an entire family of dragons to be buried in a cave in. The dragons misinterpreted this as an attack and attacked the Griffon Kingdom. At first the Griffon Kingdom did not see it as a substantial threat, not until the dragons gathered all of their kind from all over the world to join in. Soon the Griffons found themselves in a losing fight with swarms of dragons and their Diamond Dog slaves. King Dreadwing, or King Whitefeather II, was able to convince Equestria to ally with them after dragons began raiding their frontier towns and thus the ponies joined the war.
Even after much blood has been shed between allies, the Dragon Wars still seemed to be impossible to win, in a last desperate effort to push the dragons back, the ponies and griffons threw all of their forces together in several battlefields, but all seemed lost. When the battle of the Red Plains took place, it felt like a resounding defeat, until the Silver Core arrived.
3. The Diamond Dogs
The Diamond Dogs were created by dragons for the purpose of tracking and digging up gems and treasure, many of the dragons were very competitive about the sizes of their hoards and as is well known, gems are filled with magic which the dragons feed off of. Many dragons had entire armies of Diamond Dogs under their command and used them in their attack on the griffons and ponies. Some dragons however, became even greedier, leaving the lush continents in favor of the more remote places, such as the Northern Barrens.
4. Silverback
The Northern Barrens were filled with many hardened life and as the dragons attempted to create their own version of Diamond Dogs from the local wildlife, the powerful Ice Wolves, they created the Winter Wolves. The Winter Wolves were not as docile as their dog cousins however and did not allow themselves to be enslaved. The small number of dragons actually on their continent allowed them to fight back full force until the Dragons had no choice but to come to terms with them. In the end they were hired as mercenaries, paid mercenaries for the dragons and of course, many were brought to Equestria to aid them in their fight. This turned out to be the dragons' worst mistake.
One such Winterwolf, Silverback, a recognized champion of his pack, became distasteful of how his dog cousins were treated. He set it in his mind to free them and so while the dragons were busy in the front lines he took pack after pack by a storm, freeing them from their shackles and uniting them under the banner of the Silver Core. Training them and armoring them with armor so polished that it seemed almost to be made of pure silver, he marched the vast armies against the dragons, coming to the griffon and pony forces' rescue. From that day no more pony or griffon blood was spilled in the Dragon Wars on Silverback's command, though this took a great toll on the Silver Core's numbers.
Destrier, the Equestrian battle mage, Dreadwing, the Griffon king and Silverback, the Warlord of the Silver Core, became fast friends since. Together they attacked the Dragon Matriarch, a prismatic dragon leading the dragon armies, which were growing thinner with each battle to the point of extinction. Together they slayed her, ending the threat of the dragon invasion. Shortly after, a prismatic dragon known to the ages as The Guardian came to Equestria, initiating the first diplomatic meeting between dragons and the alliance on which a truce was decided.
A new kingdom was made south of Equestria for the Diamond Dogs with its capital the Silver City, a massive underground city. The three peoples lived at peace.
5. The Prism Wars
The Guardian and the Three Champions (Destrier, Silverback and Dreadwing) became a close group, it seemed that Equestria was at the peak of its civilization, with trade far and wide, alliances with its neighbors and constant growth of its people. But all that changed when the Adversary came.
The adversary was another prismatic dragon, his origins unknown, who had come to negotiate with the alliance. A meeting took place on Cloudsdale with the participation of the Three Champions, the King and Queen of Equestria, The Guardian and The Adversary. No one lives who knows what happened in that fateful meeting, all that is known is that King Chronos and Queen Galaxia were murdered and that the Prism Wars had started.
The Adversary's forces invaded Equestria mercilessly, the Dragon had no pity or remorse as he brought Equestria to near collapse, using the first Blackmane, the Pirate Lord, he destroyed one of Equestria's greatest heroes - the Sky Titan, the founder of the Razorwing family and the military unit the Stars. He then proceeded to slay the Guardian and was finally killed by the Three Champions, who died in their battle with him.
At the end of the day, Equestria lost their monarchs, their three champions, their Sky Titan and their Field Marshal in that war, leaving the young Princesses - Luna and Celestia, only in their teen years, to run the kingdom alone.
6. Discord
With no competent leadership available and all of Equestria in a severe panic, the creature known as Discord rose to power. Able to manipulate the Princesses into giving him control of the kingdom, Discord became a horrible tyrant, using the ponies as his playthings and unraveling the order and civilization that King Chronos and Queen Galaxia struggled so hard to build and maintain. His hold on the Princesses weakened with time however and eventually they have had enough, using the Elements of Harmony, the princesses sealed Discord and turned him into stone, finally taking control of their kingdom again as young adults.
7. Nightmare Moon
But not all was well in the Kingdom, Princess Luna, princess of the night struggled daily with having to overlook sleeping, ungrateful ponies while Celestia basked in their love during the day. Her name was far less known and a tear began to form between the sisters, climaxing in Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon and her eventual banishment. Princess Luna would return a thousand years later to her rightful role as princess of the night thanks to the Elements of Harmony.
8. The Eclipse Crisis
Not long after the Changeling Invasion, monsters all over Equestria began to act restless. More and more monster attacks were reported every day with even the most major roads becoming unsafe for travel. Princess Celestia, leaving with the Elements of Harmony mysteriously, warned her sister that the blame lay on a supposed cult that has been whispered about. The Cult of Eclipse. The cult, led by a pony known as Red Charge was apparently trying to bring back an ancient deity which was banished into the Celestial Divide by the Princesses' parents before they were born.
Luna, taking her sister's words seriously began acting against the cult wherever it popped up, instigating a conflict between the two factions. The cult performed rituals all over Equestria in an attempt to summon Eclipse, supposedly to take the throne from the princesses. However when the final battle was fought against the cult in their headquarters in Froggy Bottom Bog, it was revealed that the Cult was never after the throne, it insisted in not hurting the Equestrian forces and used only non-lethal methods in order to stop their advance. It was also made apparent that Eclipse had already been summoned long ago and that the rituals the cultists were performing were made to control him and turn him into an ally of Equestria. Due to Celestia's warnings, Princess Luna misunderstood the many communications that Red Charge attempted to send her and which Luna interpreted as threats.
Eclipse did arrive on Froggy Bottom Bog, but due to the fact that Luna's forces had interrupted one of the control rituals, the cult was not able to control the beast, which became a living, mindless, engine of destruction. With combined forces, the Equestrian and Cult forces were able to finally destroy Eclipse, ending his millenia of suffering and releasing him from his poor existence. The Cult and Equestria reconciled after the battle, with Luna realized that it was not the cult who was responsible to the monsters' restlessness. Red Charge and Luna met, tracking the root of the misunderstanding between them and agreeing to work in cooperation in order to strengthen Equestria against the rising monster threat. Red Charge became the Equestrian Royal Adviser and all cult forces were pardoned and welcomed back into the embrace of Equestria.
9. The Blood Wars
It has been over a year since the Eclipse Crisis began, with Equestria strengthened by the ex-cultists, it seemed as though the monster threat was soon becoming a thing of the past. However, a surprise invasion by Diamond Dog forces led to the loss of Fillydelphia and the complete destruction of Ponyville at the hand of a dragon leading an army of drakes. The dogs, allied with the Changeling Queen, Chrysalis and the Pirate Lord Blackmane, as well as the dragon and his drake swarm have been constantly on the offensive against Equestria. During the war, the Changeling Hive was forced into an alliance with Equestria by Field Marshal Starling, Manehattan was invaded by Diamond Dogs, Canterlot was completely destroyed by Blackmane, who was then destroyed permanently. A civil war broke out in the Griffon Kingdom and King Whitefeather was dethroned and killed. The Adversary was revealed to be the mastermind behind the Diamond Dog invasion and he as well As Warlord Sharp, the Diamond Dog warlord have both been defeated. Unfortunately, Shining Armor and Field Marshal Hightower lost their lives in the conflict.
