Peeking into the room, Shade could see that there was another door-sized archway on the opposite wall, leading into another part of the house. There was no way of reaching it, however, unless Shade wanted to move through the room the diamond dog was in or get outside then walk around the house.
Shade could also see that the room was filled with various valuables, probably brought back from when the dogs went out to loot the nearby residences. This was likely where they kept it all. The dog was examining a dagger in his paws, likely one of their treasures rather than his own weapon. He hadn't noticed Shade, and the unicorn was able to slip back out of sight without being spotted.
In terms of weapons, the only real item of interest in the kitchen was a knife, the kind one would use to chop vegetables.

Perfection. His horn gave a soft glow, as he cautiously peered from his hideaway toward the archway... he had one shot at this so long as he wished the Dog to perish long before he could call for help. He needed to find a meager distraction. Naturally he checked his armor, simply by looking upon it, huffing ever quietly and saying one final prayer. You couldn't live without taking risks. He picked a fork, a wooden spoon, Hay even a chip of a broken plate from the floor.
It couldn't be too big... it would cause too great a racket if it was. Barely under an ounce. It was too dark for him to make out whatever it was. Regardless. His magic fetched the knife ever so carefully from the sink as well.
'Well... Pray tell Clobber could save my flank if it doesn't work.' before he gave a strong, magical flick. Sending the trash item flying across and into the archway on the other side of the room, hopefully far enough to tap a wall or something. With the Diamond Dog focused on his little dagger, Shade hoped he wouldn't notice the origin of the thrown material. His body crouched, the kitchen knife floating at his side. Now it was just time to see how it would all play out.

The dog's ears perked up after Shade threw the fork across the room behind him, but long before it actually landed, clattering to the floor in the room opposite. It had heard the utensil cutting through the air, and knew very well that it had been thrown from the kitchen.
Shade was able to duck out of the dog's view before it turned to look at the entrance from the kitchen. It didn't seem to have spotted him, but either way it would only be moments before the dog came to investigate. If Shade was going to do something, he needed to do it fast.

If there were ever a time to curse another's makeshift plans not going as initially speculated... now was it. But when in doubt... you improvise. His pupils narrowed to as thin as a grain of sand, his heart fluttered as he could hear the pawsteps coming closer. He turned his eyes upon the knife, it all happened so fast, almost in seconds. Praise Celestia he was a Unicorn... It gave him an uncanny reach with a bladed weapon, and an armed assault much harder to predict where a strike would come from. He knew the dog towered over him, he could tell as the shadow was looming around the corner.
'Bugger All! Buck the dogs, I hate Diamond dogs!' he shouted in thought. Of all the many times he'd been forced into a still, almost comatose position out of sheer fear as a child... it was not one of those times. He was an armored pony! He could cast a shield large enough to cover a palace!... And he wasn't about to let one dog tear him apart without a good fight in the making.
The moment he could smell, hear, see the shadow of the Dog prepared to look around the corner his head came firstly, to get a full sight of the dog looming over him. It happened so fast for him. Shade usually had time to think things through... which... he had plenty of time, but it seemed when resourcefulness... you had to simply guess. His teeth grit and his horn glowing as the Kitchen knife swooped around the corner, at neck level his eyes locked not on the dog's occulars but the fresh exposed neck. Almost as if the blade swerved like a sports-car in high pursuit before he attempted to drive it into the dog's neck.
To tear the vocal chords and choke him out. If that went well... he would simply catch the dog's body in a hard magical grip to prevent him from flailing and creating a ruckus.

But the dog never set foot into the kitchen, leaving Shade waiting for a target that wouldn't appear. It took him a moment to realize why, but by then it was too late. The glow from his horn, and around the knife. The dog had seen it from other room, making it blatantly obvious that there was someone in the kitchen. And not just anyone, a pony.
Shade could hear the dog growling from the room it was in. A second later, it let out a loud howl, one that could easily be heard from anywhere in the house. If the dogs didn't know there was a pony here before, they certainly did now.

Yes. Fate, nature, Celestia, and all of Equestria could go buck themselves. An then some~ Shade still had his head turned around the corner, watching the dog as his initial attacked unfortunately... missed. To which a curse was ushered. Now he had to truly think fast... an he had to brutalize the chance he got. Once that howl was ushered it all came rushing on in, "Fine!~", he hissed, his horn flaring to generate a hiss of magical noise.
It wasn't often that he used a spell meant to battle others, normally he relied on snatching up a sword, or sharp object and running say.. a thief through. His last spree at fighting involved him casting a sizeable shield over the palace at Royal Rocks. Maybe this once he didn't have to worry about defending himself... maybe this once he could feel good about shooting a mutt dead in the face.
The image of his stupidity was starting to pool swell in his mind. You know maybe he could have just stabbed the dog much earlier on and it wouldn't have gotten himself caught. Maybe he could have just casted a shield around himself and walked into the Dang house. ... Maybe not that last one but still. His horn flared, and his right eye narrowed, "Alright you filthy mongrel... Have a seat.", in a flash of light and a whip of magic his horn collected a sizeable ball of magical light, before expelling itself in the shape of an energy round... a sizeable one at that. Fixing to break through the dog's chest and maybe vaporize the spine. It wouldn't be the only, he followed suit with two more.
"Thats for whatever you got smoked away in the basement!~", he shouted, "This is for shooting Arrows at me when I first got'ere! And buckin hay, friend...", he conjured up another flare of light, "Ahm just all sorts uh rip'snortin angry~", he grumbled, and prepared to cast a shield around himself.

The dog was hit with the first of Shade's blasts before it even had a chance to reach the unicorn. The dog stumbled backwards, only to get hit by the second and third projectiles. The canine was sent tumbling across the room and onto the floor, landing in a pile of miscellany that lined the room. There it remained dead and motionless as blood began to collect onto the valuables surrounding it.
Shade wasn't given long to ponder what had just occurred. Another dog, probably the guard that had been patrolling outside, had tried sneaking up from behind. Luckily, Shade was able to detect the assaulter, and successfully cast a shield before the dog's sword made contact.
His sword bounding off Shade's shield, the diamond dog took a few steps back. He remained where he was, eyeing the unicorn cautiously. Above them Shade could hear the sound of movement, likely other dogs on their way downstairs. The one facing Shade remained where he was, waiting for either Shade to drop the shield or for his friends to arrive.

His pupils widened in immediate fright. But... in sort of an amazement. It wasn't the death of the first diamond dog that really worked his heart into top-gear. He turned his head over his shoulder to the dog, his teeth grit. "Buckin'Eh... Didn't think... Thats a first...", he spoke aloud. No point in not anymore.
The last time he'd attempted to block a weapon it hadn't gone over quite so well. Actually... it got him thrown down into a sewer, beaten by Griffons, thrown into prison, beaten in prison, taken to a hospital and unfortunately thrown out of the Griffon kingdom... he should have simply used a magical blast first that last time. Then casted the shield. Of course... he was simply just taken aback that he'd managed to pull it off. The excitement was killing him.
"Well then..", as he began to loom back, and face the dog. His horn began to ingite all the brighter. He had his protection. He had casted a shield over a palace; He'd stopped a round of cannon fire!... In his heart this would be not so grand but.. well he felt strongly it wouldn't be nearly as dificult. For the time being of course. His horn glowing fiercely as his shield would pulse and ripple with the power at his disposal. Not a master but he did his best to practice when he could. At the freedom of wielding magic as openly as he was reminded him of how puny he felt with the horn-bar he wore in prison. That entire shabang was... a different story however.
At the moment he faced one problem. He could not cast anything more. It was imperative that when a shield was unleashed... most other spells in accordance with such tended to fail. Thus rendering him powerless and more open to attack. So the choice was his... drop his defense and unleash what attacks he could, and then likely be overwhelmed by the number of dogs soon to come. Or... remain in his protective orb and pray for assistance to come.
And if so, in the meantime account for his brain and think up a plan of escape. Upon hoof and heel he gave a swift turn. While the dogs came he could take his time to scan the collection of items for the heirloom. Falling on the perished diamond dog. According to Clobber it was a priceless artifact or something bejeweled and valueble. There he would begin, frantically pacing his eyes left and right and every so often shifting back on the diamond dog, 'Come'n sirrah...', he whispered within the confines of his mind. Referring to his comrade, praying he was still alive, 'If you left me here to die I'm screwed!~'

Try as he might, Shade couldn't spot the bejeweled mask within the room. Was it buried underneath the other loot, or hidden underneath the dog he had just killed? Maybe the dogs hadn't found it and it wasn't here at all. Had Clobber mentioned something about it being hidden?
Not much time was allowed to ponder, as the diamond dog had decided not to sit idly by while Shade looked through their stuff. Picking up the dagger the other dog had left on the table, the canine jabbed it into the surface of Shade's shield, trying to use his strength to break through with a pressure point. Shade could definitely feel the effect, but with just one dog with a dagger, the shield was in no danger of breaking right away.
While Shade had been searching, the sound of the dogs upstairs could be heard getting closer and closer, soon making their way downstairs. Not long after the first dog began digging into Shade's shield did they appear from the other side of the room. The diamond dog near Shade barked a short order at them in some unintelligible language, causing one of them to unsheathe his own dagger and approach the unicorn.

He had withstood cannon rounds and yet this was giving him a derranged Sideeffect? What in the name of Celestia was responsible for these lousy misconceptions. One thing was for sure he needed to think quickly. In his armor he wasn't sure if he could totally withstand a stabbing from an single dagger. In all likeliness it might just breech him and kill him instantly. But he couldn't sit and wait for help that might not arrive. He couldn't tell how many dogs were in the room with him... his eyes entirely focused on the one trying to hammer his shield away.
He'd given up searching the moment he heard the other dogs peel into the downstairs area. His eyes flipping over as he heard the one present snarl his orders. It was his chance to kill him... if it could work. Which in all likeliness in pure ferocity; Shade would die, as was how he imagined it going down. But... he figured he wouldn't survive either way.
Therefore in the confines of his mind he determined he would not escape nor outrun them in any means. While the dog snarled... his horn would fade. The shield would dissipate and his horn flare once more as it was replaced with round of concussive magic, attempting to smoke the dog at close range through his chest and send him flying once Again.
"I've had enough of the Barking!", he growled, taking a firm stance in his armor the moment he'd released the attack. If this succeeded he would unleash a scattering burst-fire on the ones in the doorway.

WARNING: The following post contains dark themes and graphic violence.
As soon as Shade's shield dissipated, the diamond dog putting all of his force into pushing the dagger into the shield suddenly found the shield not pushing back. The dagger scraped off of Shade's armor while the dog frantically reached out for something to stabilize himself. His paw instinctively grabbed onto Shade's horn, only managing to pull the both of them down. The weight of the dog pulled Shade's head straight down into the floor, knocking him unconscious.
Shade was shocked awake by an excruciating, pounding pain in his horn, but it took several seconds to piece together why. Less than two inches from his head was an axe, its head now sticking out of the floor. While Shade was unconscious the dogs had neutralized the threat. They had hogtied the unicorn and hacked off his horn, rendered him unable to cast spells. Shade was now permanently crippled, and at the mercy of the dogs.
Blood was spurting out of the stump that remained from his horn, bloodying the axe and the floor. A diamond dog wrenched the axe out of the floor and picked up the severed half of Shade's horn, beginning to playfully toss the object up and down in his paw. "Pony isn't tough without his horn, is he?"
Another dog kicked Shade hard in the ribs, not even allowing the unicorn a chance to respond. "Pony thinks he can come here and kill? Steal from us?" the dog with Shade's horn continued. "What was he doing, treasure-hunting?" The other dog kicked Shade a second time with even more force.
"Pony will die, like his friends. Pony will spend his last seconds in agony, wishing he was in Canterlot where stupid Princess protects him."
The four dogs did their worst to Shade, each one getting a turn to have their fun torturing the helpless unicorn. Even worse was that they seemed to be trying to outdo each-other, some of them even demanding a second go. They would taunt him, commanding Shade to call out for help while simultaneously choking him. They seemed to relish every sign of pain and torment he gave them. Far too often they broke bones or stabbed the unicorn just to get a more lively reaction.
Finally, after each of them had gotten their 'personal time' with their captive, they hoisted Shade onto the table, rolling the dying unicorn onto his side. One of them then thrust that terrible dagger right below Shade's ribs, dragging it painfully down his underside until it had reached his legs, blood and innards spilling out of the still-alive unicorn along the way.
What came next was a frenzy. The dogs tore into Shade's body, devouring his flesh and organs while their teeth and claws tore through the unicorn. Shade's consciousness began to fade as the dogs ate him alive, the world around him becoming encompassed by lowly pain and humiliation. His systems gave out half-way through the dogs' meal, finally giving the unicorn some sweet solace in an unceremonious death.
When they had finished, the bloody carcass on the table resembled a vivisection gone horribly wrong more than it did a pony. After they had carved out what little meat remained that was still worth salvaging, two of the dogs wrapped up the mess of a corpse and carried it outside. They left it in the woods a short distance away, leaving it for whatever monster or wildlife that wanted to drag it off and finish what was left.
