”Does it look like I know?” Gilda scolded, restraining the urge to slap the dog upside the head for asking a dumb question like that. ”Doesn't matter, think we lost them a little ways back – and if you really want we can go back and ask them who they belong to but I can’t guarantee they’ll be polite about it.”
As the moments passed, it was clear they were safe for now. Gilda spent a quiet moment rubbing the temples of her head, trying to push the lingering headache caused by the eye all the while trying to wrap her head around what it was showing her. Perhaps she should have listened more closely to its explanation but it was not like she planned to get it jammed into her skull in the first place. Her train of thought broke when Bowie mentioned about the arrow glancing off his sword.
”Better that then in your back. If you really are set on that whole unification thing, might want to think about investing in some armor. Take it from me, took a few gnarly hits before I got my talons around this.” She rapped on her breastplate with her knuckle. ”And like I said, I can show you a few things about using a sword, but if you really want to do all that stuff you said, we’re going to have to find you a sword master. There’s some I know of in Royal Rocks, but we’ll have to get there first.”
Gilda glanced around, realizing they’ll need to find someplace safe in the forest in case their new silver encased friends happen to wander by again – not also considering all the other things in the forest that wouldn't mind roasted griffon with a side of mutt. ”Hey, Bowie. Since you’re so unwilling to get out of this lame forest, can you use that nose of yours and find someplace safe for us to lay low for a bit? If I’m going to start showing you pointers, I’d like not to have to worry about getting jumped from behind.”

"Nose? I dunno about that, we don't smell places you know." Bowie responded indignantly, "But I think we're just on the verge of finding something..." The dog started, but was abruptly cut off falling through the brush into a small clearing.
"Well I guess here is as good a spot as any if you're gonna teach me anything." He said, "Should see anyone coming from a distance." He said as he moved into the center of the clearing, carefully. He drew his sword, "So what do I do with this thing? How do I use it properly?"

Gilda chuckled to herself when Bowie fell through the brush into the clearing. "Hah, have a nice trip?" She called back, following him through t the clearing. She gave the place a quick look over, trying to spot for anything that may not have been apparent at first such as a hidden den, spider nest, something that would likely try and eat them in the not to distant future.
She returned back Bowie, being mindful of his sword and its tendency to unleash its devastating shockwave. "Yeah no, I'm not going to be anywhere near you swinging that around. Here, let me get you something a little safer." She turned around, looking for something, then glanced upward. Perfect. She shot up, rustled through the trees for a moment then a large heavy straight stick suddenly fell down at Bowie's feet. "Use that."
Gilda dropped down with a rather menacing stick of her own and approached, indicating that Bowie should pick up the fallen branch before they were to begin. "First thing you need to learn is to not treat the thing like some lame club, swinging it around like a dweeb as if you were whacking away some vines or something. It needs to be an extension of your arm, a part of you. For example-" With her own stick, she formed her talon into a proper grip, allowing for quick movements of the digits while keeping her wrist straight and strong. "Strikes should come from the shoulder, while fine movements should come from your tal-paws." With a quick flick, barely moving her talon at all, she brought the stick up directly at neck level with Bowie. It was quick, subtle and appeared to have required very little effort on her part. "You try, attack with your 'sword' as if you were going to strike me dead." She stepped back and rose on her haunches to sit upright but relaxed.

Bowie picked up the stick and swung it as Gilda demonstrated, but before he could finish the swing, the stick jumped out of his hands, it was a stick bug! It lunged at Gilda, landing on her face and scurrying on her back between her wings hissing angrily.
Bowie shivered and jumped back, "Oh my stars get it away!" He yelled, "Keep it away from me!" He began wiping his hands off on his fur, shouting.

Gilda was incredibly still, calculating what to do with an angered bug now on her back and a freaking out Diamond Dog. When she realized it wasn't going anywhere, two things crossed the griffon's mind. First, she really hated this forest with a burning passion to the point that when she got out of there, she find a way to burn it down and revel in the ashes. Second, Bowie was absolutely, positively, the lamest Diamond Dog she has ever had the displeasure to run across. It was a stupid bug, so what if it was creepy and crawly and larger than any insect had a right to be, it was still just a bug.
With a sigh and roll of her eyes, Gilda took the stick that was in talon and slipped its end between her wings and attempted to flick the bug off her back. "Would you shut your trap already." She scolded while fidgeting with the stick to pry the insect loose. "It's just a lame bug, not going hurt you." Believing she was able to slip the branch under it, she flicked it up hoping for it to pop it off herself.

The bug jumped out of reach, hissed again and climbed up another tree, Bowie calmed down after a few moments. "I HATE bugs!" He said, "They're so disgusting, can't they just go extinct? Blawgh." He mimicked vomiting, poking other sticks with his sword until he found another one.
"Alright, let's see here," He said, swinging the stick with deadly accuracy in a fluid motion at Gilda, far better than any swing he's taken previously, in fact, his form was perfect all of the sudden, Gilda was so surprised she wasn't able to dodge and found the stick up against her neck, right below her chin.
"Like this?" He asked, surprised himself about his own well-doing.

"Yeah... like that..." Gilda was unsure what to make out of Bowie's sudden expertise with the branch-blade, was. Her eyes were fixed on stick as she pushed it away from her neck feathers. She glanced to her own stick-sword with chagrin and let it fall in her grip, little late to parry now.
Well, clearly he didn't need her help after all or it was the greatest case of beginners luck she had ever witnessed."So... where did that come from? Just five minutes ago you were nearly cutting your own arm off with a sword, now you're like some sort of swashbuckler? I know I'm good with this whole teaching thing, but not that good."Maybe it was a fluke, only one way to find out. "Ok, lets see if you can parry and riposte. I'm going to attack, you - try not to flinch to much."
Gilda fluttered her wings and kicked back a several paces, remaining in a hover above the ground. She twirled her stick-weapon, shot a grin to Bowie, and then shot at him. She would feign a strike to his neck, but redirect her attack to the his left kidney. That should knock him around a bit.

To her surprise, Bowie managed a complete counter to her attack, swirling around her and kicking her side painfully, throwing her beak first into the ground. She could hear the stick bug hissing above her, as if to mock her.
"Wow, I've never done this in my life!" Bowie called out excitedly, "Let's do it again!"

Gilda looked up from her dirt beak-plant, blow off a few blades of grass from her beak. She didn't know what to think of this, was the dog playing a fool? Could he actually fight all along and this was some sort of weird game for him? Whatever it was, she was done with 'teaching' him. He clearly knew everything he needed.
She glanced up to the stick-bug with disdain. "Shut it or I'll eat you." She threatened, getting up from the forest floor. She turned back to Bowie, with grass stained feathers and a look that screamed 'I hate you'. "No. I'm done. This is retarded, you're just messing with me. No one, in history, has ever gone from bumbling to master in the matter of four minutes. So, really, where did you learn to sword-fight?"

"I didn't! I swear to Silverback I never ever did anything like this before, it's amazing!" He said, grabbing his sword and turning in one direction, aiming to swing it. However, he swung so clumsily that he just ended up falling flat on his side with his enthusiasm. In fact, that swing was so horrible, that there was no way for it to be done deliberately.
"Aww come on!" Bowie said getting up, "But I just did this!" He tried swinging again, but ended up tripping, embedding his sword in the ground and then falling into the hilt face first.
He looked at Gilda with confused puppy eyes, "I don't get it!"

Gilda was reluctant to buy into Bowie suddenly being unable to handle his sword after nearly masterfully wielding the stick. She was certain now that the Diamond Dog was messing with her - and it wasn't funny.
"Did a pink or cerulean pony set you up for this? Cause if so, this is the lamest prank I've ever seen. I'd expect better from those two - very disappointed."The griffon said, sitting on her haunches with crossed arms. She was clearly growing frustrated with this showing. "Seriously, the sooner you stop playing around the sooner I can get out of this forest. I mean really, what is your major malfunction? It should be no different than the lame stick you were twirling around like a pro." She snorted, "What, you implying that because you're a whelp you can't use it yet? Pretty lame sword if that's the case."

"Pink Pony? Is that like some kind of pink diamond or something? I know a Pink Panther diamond... no? You mean an actual pony? I don't know any ponies other than that one that caused all the fuss a while back... she was so dignified! Carrying herself the way she was, the way she styled her mane, just amazing..." He sighed for a moment as he was lost in tought. "I should find that pony, have her teach me how to style my fur like that."
For her comment about the stick and him being a whelp he let out a frustrated growl. "No, I'm telling you!" The dog said, putting his sword back in its sheath, "Look I've never done any sword-fighting, I didn't grow up that way. I grew up trying to be as peaceful as possible and get along with my fellow dogs. Heck I never even got in a fight! For a Diamond Dog that's not easy!"
The frustrated dog clenched his fists, "Come on, you said you'd help me learn, just show me the moves, we don't need to spar or anything." He insisted, "Don't be that griffon."

"Huh?" Gilda said, clearly confused by Bowie's ramble. It was awkward and weird, much like the rest of him. "You're one messed up mess of fur, just throwing that out here. How about you forget about the pretty pony for a moment and lets focus on what's important." She ran her talon over her face - dreading the next few hours... days... however long it takes.
"Explain to me again how you came to possess a weapon like that? I'm really struggling to believe you didn't find that thing from some looted crypt and concocted an elaborate delusion about being some sort of 'chosen one'." She let out a flustered sigh, she was at a loss. "I don't know how to teach you anything when you're perfect with everything but that magic sword! Ok, fine, lets rewind and try something new. Draw that sword, I'll guide you through the motions."
She waited for him to unsheathed the sword and approached him from behind, grasping his dominate arm with one talon while the other was poised to force him to move properly and in correct form. "Just follow my motions, we'll start with a proper stance and work from there. Now let's begin - and don't get fresh with me."

Gilda taught Bowie for what felt like hours, even with her guiding his motions she could feel the inexperience, he was practically shivering when holding the sword. She herself felt rather sick from such close proximity to such a powerful magical artifact, well, it was a different kind of sick, she couldn't put her talon on it... it didn't feel like it usually did around unicorns. Maybe because it was dragon magic. On top of that, her eye kept tingling, possibly from overusing it, it became a real frustration, as those numb spikes in a limb that fell asleep were now in her eye.
On occasion Gilda would try giving Bowie a stick again and watched again and again how he flawlessly executed every maneuver, only to go back to the sword and lose it all again. The more they practiced, the more she realized that the dog not only lacked confidence, but he also seemed perplexed as to what was going on most of the time. He would often drift off and become confused. Could it be that the sword influenced him the same way the eye influenced her? Perhaps by wielding it for too long it exhausted his mental faculties.
After he was finally able to at the very least have a correct stance, grasp and swing of his sword, he finally called it a day.
"I'm getting exhausted, we should keep moving, find a shelter..." He said, looking up, it was impossible to tell through the thick, tall trees whether it was day or night.
He let out an awkward thanks to the Griffon, with very pompous hand movements as though he was bowing regally, it just came out awkward instead. Maybe if he didn't look like such a dork... She had to wonder if the original Silverback was such a dweeb. Only the Princesses would know really...

The training was exhausting for Gilda, not because it was a tough regiment but because Bowie was a complete dolt. The nauseating sensation inflicted upon her by the magic in the sword and the odd tinge of pain in her eye not withstanding, trying to get some basic fighting skills into the dog's skull was arduous torture. He was like a sieve, everything Gilda could teach him was lost into a void somewhere tucked inside his skull. Guy was hopeless. And when their training session ended, Gilda could not have been more relieved. Though Bowie seemed to have finally learned a few basic that stuck - Gilda wasn't expecting him to retain anything he learned long enough to use it.
"What, tired already? Can't just call it quits in the middle of a fight, you know. But perhaps you're right, I really don't want to be caught out here should something like our silver buddies from earlier walk by again. Be mega lame to have you get killed after all this training." Gilda said before suddenly shooting him a perplexed face. Did he just really do an awkward bow? Super lame. "Ya... don't do that again please, I only have some much embarrassment for you to shuffle around." She replied with a snarky tone. "Let's get moving, has to be something here that we can hide in for a bit."
As they would move further through the forest, Gilda tried to keep a close eye out for something that could be construed as 'shelter'. Though, with her special eye aching, she was left with her normal one. Not that it was bad at its job, but trying to rest one eye while working the other was a strange exercise in muscle control.
