Gilda’s rousing awake was not without resistance, not only weak, she found herself floating between consciousness and the black void of dreamless sleep. Shadow’s rude awaking, and the stinging burn on her rear were not at all welcomed – she swiped at the pony with her talons, missing in her disorientated state. She was nearly a ragdoll in his grasp, tossed about by his less than gentle hooves and when he rudely popped her new eye out, she yelped and snapped awake.
”What gives!”Gilda squawked in surprised pain from the still tender socket, trying to swipe the eye back from Shadow. ”I lost one eye due to you already, not giving away another.” She really didn’t care about what he had said prior to all that, she barely was able to absorb it in her state at that time. She just wanted her eye, like a fledgling to a toy.
Then when he explained his plan, she fell back against what she laid upon, banging her head against its surface in seeping irritation. ”I just wanted bits. Fine! We’ll go with your lame plan, but I’m not exactly up to my usual keenness due to NOT HAVING AN EYE. Don’t expect any depth perception.” She growled and popped up to her feet, sitting opposite Shadow. ”Who is this ‘Coyote’ anyway? Can you least give me that?” With her one good eye, she gave her glass eye a good look over as Shadow rigged it. ”Well definitely don’t want it back now, will that stuff really work as good as you say? Cause that’s friggun awesome! Got anymore of it? Can think of like eight pranks with that stuff – eat it Pinkie.” Delightful thoughts of an exploding pink pony danced through her head in an instant day-dream.
”So yeah, ‘I dig’. I’ll be sure to keep an EYE out for you.” She said as she flashed her bloody, empty socket at Shadow in a gross tease as she stood and walked around, stumbling as she recouped her strength. ”So what exactly am I to spot for you? Him? Does he have anything else to watch for, you just want directions? I can focus like a camera but I need to know what to pay attention to – and one eye down-.” She motioned with her talons to the left side of her, waving it up and down. ”I got nothing here, so the more insight to your course, the better.”

The Grey Shadow immediately tried to silence her as she squawked, hoping no one had heard it. As she asked him who Coyote was he remarked, "You know the Coyote's Mask? He's the one who made it. He used to be locked up in Tartarus, I don't know how he got out. Must be all of this craziness recently somehow summoned him here... as if Discord and Mayhem weren't bad enough. He's a deity, or something of the sort, a lesser one. Got nothing on Entropy and Harmony." He explained shortly.
Though he did not recoil from her flashing him the eye, his mouth did curl in disgust from it and his hoof shot up to his own, thinking it could have easily been him had Gilda not shown up. He'd have had to get a mechanical replacement if that was the case. Maybe he owed Gilda, an eye for an eye after all... maybe there was a way to do that AND get Rainlock off his back all at the same time...
He reached into his cloak again and gave Gilda a microphone, "You speak into this, quietly, it goes straight in my ear, no one around me can hear anything you say. It's a labyrinth inside, so I need you to direct me to the eye, don't worry, it'll be in the center. Now he has all sorts of creatures and monsters roaming that labyrinth and naturally he'll be setting up the ritual he's planning which means focal points and runes so make sure nothing runs into me. He probably thinks I'm dead and you're still bleeding out in the mill. Once I'm there, you gotta be fast, make sure no one sees me leave and warn me if the Coyote's starting to head back to the center." He looked at her again, hoping she got that in her dizzy state, "In short, look from above tell me where to go, make sure I don't run into anything you only need one eye for it." At that he began towards the entrance, carrying Gilda all the way to the wall before heading for the doors.

Gilda nodded, see wasn’t that easy? If he had just explained from the beginning this whole mess – a BUCKING DIETY!? She screamed out silently in her head, screamed so hard that she uttered ponisms. preposterous, when did a deity get involved in this mess? Gilda, she thought, what have you gotten yourself into? Taratarus be dammed, if it weren’t for kissing fish-lips, getting thwacked over the head twice, losing an eye, a demigod of some sort, foalnapped (again with the ponisims), and now on a harebrained scheme to get her disembodied eye back, this night would be one for the epic record books. That’s it, Gilda, keep your spirits up.
Gilda took the microphone, gave it a glance over. ”I rather we just went in there and separated this Coyote’s head from its neck, but this a close second. I’m on it, surveillance, I can do that – hey!” She yelped in surprise when she was lifted up. This was really getting on her nerves, she was fine – or so she told herself. This carrying like a delicate egg was not cool with her, she was Gilda. The badflank from Cloudsdale and in her opinion, the actual fastest thing in Equestria. Being carried around like some babe was insulting. She grumbled this to herself, but let the pony carry her. Why not? And when finally there, she pushed herself away and onto the ground. With a few brushes of her arms, getting the stink of pony of her, she swooped into the air and took up a position to see the labyrinth (where did this thing come from? Seriously, how did no pony notice this thing here?) as best she could. She checked the mic, setting it up and test, ”In position, you read? Can you reply back? Hellooo, this thing on?” She gently tapped the transmitter with her talon hoping it would pound Shadow’s eardrum – sweet revenge. ”So yeah, if we don’t make it through this – well mostly you, just wanted to say… I hate you. Good luck, dweeb.”

Legend - R - Rune F - Focal Point 1 - Frozen Feral Praetorian 2 - Chimera 3 - Manticore 4 - Earth Elemental 5 - Timber Wolf Combine 6 - Fledgling Hydra Observing from above Gilda could see the maze and the various monsters roaming it. She could tell where Coyote had placed his focal points and runes. Just looking at them made her dizzy. Spots of magical potency were never fun for a griffon. The Grey Shadow was sneaking in from the entrance at the bottom of the maze, at least in the way Gilda oriented herself. The eye was at the center. In the entrance corridor, to Shadow's left was one of those massive timber-wolves clanking near a rune, facing him. If he advanced forwards and not take the turn he'd round the corner and spot Shadow. If it did turn however it could be a good way to go by. The other path out of the entrance corridor passed right by a focal point. Gilda knew that rituals required focal points to be charged before runes were activated, so it was a risk, if he were to go there and Coyote would arrive there he could get spotted. She also spotted a frozen feral praetorian walking down towards that corridor, if it decided to turn it could also spot shadow. On the other hallway was a chimera, yikes, poor griffon, at the edge of the hallway, but if it were to go past the entrance Shadow could sneak past it and get that much closer to the center. She spotted Coyote at the center, inspecting the set-up the eye was placed in. He then turned ready to start charging the focal points.

Gilda didn’t like this, not at all. To go left would mean the tiberwolf, but to go right would be the focal point and Coyote looked to be gearing up for trouble. It was impossible to tell which focal point would be first and the last thing they both needed was for him the pop in on them suddenly and ruin this most awesome surprise they had in store. She wondered if it would have been more prudent to just swoop in and change the eyes out when Coyote’s back was turned instead of playing a game of ‘don’t get exploded in the labyrinth’. Oh well, they’re committed now.
”From my vantage point, your best bet appears to be going left, after a few meters there will be an entrance to your right, take it quick. There’s a very large timberwolf at the end of the corridor you’re currently in. If you’re fast you should miss it. In the next corridor, there's a chimera, but if you go left and make an immediate right after little glowy focal point thing and wait there, you should miss it if it decides to move towards you.” They were so boned. She ducked down and hid while Shadow moved.

As the shadow moved so did the monsters. He managed to get by the timber-wolf and find cover in the inner corridor. Gilda spotted Coyote heading to the right most focal point first. Which meant he'd probably be moving clockwise, giving the shadow plenty of time to go around.

Gilda peeked back up, spying her advice work. Shadow wasn’t being eviscerated, perhaps they might just get through this. And Coyote was opposite the maze from Shadow. Ok, she thought, let’s get this done.
First up, the two monsters in the corridor, thankfully the Hydra was facing away from Shadow’s position and so was manticore. ”Shadow, you have two monsters now blocking your path in the other corridor. Both appear to be facing away, pop out where you’re hiding and go right but move quick and stealthy, you should be able to avoid the Hydra and the Manticore ‘cause they’re looking away. Then take an immediate right turn after you pass the Hydra and you’re clear from there. It’s a straight shot to the center. Beeline for the next opening and go down, you should be at the eye.So be a pal and get that back for me." She scoffed, "Probably best to wait there for a minute, the elemental thing is blocking your escape, near of them rune things to your south and then east. I'll tell you when it moves.”
She ducked behind cover again, feeling some budding confidence flow through here. They can do this, heck, it was starting to get exciting even.

Shadow unfortunately ran at the manticore as soon as he got past the hydra, fortunately however, he was true to his legend and was easily able to dodge it, making a beeline straight for the eye with the manticore slow in pursuit. He was quickly able to switch the eye, but where to go next? He had little time to wait for directions. Coyote in the meanwhile moved towards the northern focal point, humming himself a tune and singing in rhymes. "The object he seeksess he now possesses and now he does changess the world of the weakses and saids drinks of me, you wills not thirsts, Dids honeys sweet froms out Him burst." He sang as he began to charge the second focal point, oblivious to the Shadow in his maze.

Gilda peeked up once more, ok so the Manticore decided to be a dweeb. This was just a minor setback, nothing the Shadow couldn’t handle, she assumed. Long as he kept moving quickly.
”Uh yeah, sorry about that. You’re doing good, it just wants to nibble on ya a little, nothing too serious. Ok so move as fast as you can south, make an immediate left and then an immediate right through the next opening to your south, not north!” She sighed, there were two options, thanks to the big bad breath beast by the entrance. Lame Timberwolves. She had to decide quick, to the focal point where coyote may appear or to the rune spot. Tick-tock, tick-tock. Was there a pattern to Coyote’s movements? It was a 50/50 shot… ”Then go straight through the openings and make an immediate right at the wall and duck beside the rune. Wait there.” She hoped the Manticore would cease its chase before then. Well least they had the eye – they were half-way there. Gilda ducked back down into her hiding spot.

The Manticore gave a small chase but once the Shadow was out of its sight it gave up, the shadow followed Gilda's instructions while Coyote moved to the south focal point.

When Gilda peeked back up, she found herself troubled. Shadow appeared pinned. Coyote was close, be he was hardly the problem. The Elemental and Timber Wolf were close and moving. Where could she send him that wouldn’t result in nastiness. She thought for a moment.
”Shadow, bad news, the Timber Wolf is coming towards you and Coyote is blocking your way out. Move past the opening to the opposite wall just north of your position, wait there till Coyote and the Timber Wolf move. But, be alert, the elemental thing is right on the other side of that wall and may move into your corridor beside you – it seems slow though. It’s all I can give you now. If you’re fortunate, you’ll be able to slip into the corridor with the focal point Coyote is at now and make for the exit when they both move. Harmony speed, pony.” She ducked back down, hoping against hope fortune favors them.

Unfortunately for Shadow, the Timber Wolf Combine had entered his hallway instead, Coyote was still charging the focal point as it did. Shadow couldn't afford trying to run past it, so he turned to run away.

Peeking back, Gilda cringed, Shadow wasn’t doing as well as she had hoped, but there was still promise in this fool’s errand.
”Run, run like you’ve never ran before. Follow the path north till the second left and retrace your steps through the center of the maze. Pass through the center, down and to the left. You’ll see the manticore but it’s facing away from that opening. Go down to the little alcove near the opening where the Timber Wolf was and wait till Coyote moves from the focal point, you should be clear to the exit once he’s gone to the next focal point.” She ducked back down hoping that Coyote would move already.

Gilda's advice worked perfectly and Shadow, spotting the opportunity, shot right out the exit, waiting for Gilda to pick him up so they could fly as far away as possible from the about-to-explode maze.

In her wait, biting a talon in her beak, Gilda hoped for Shadow's safe return through the exit. She even was clutching that medallion of hers for good-luck, perhaps even a little lame charm like that would some how magically assist Grey-Colt from the clutches of the labyrinth. When he emerged, she flipped the medallion over her neck and swooped down, grabbing him with her talons like he was a sheep in pastor and made for the city of Manehatten as quickly has her wings would carry her.
"Forget what I said about you being a loser, that was amazing!" She exclaimed excitedly, nearly forgetting about her own eye in her celebratory state. "Dude, we have to work together again. You, me, we make an awesome team. You were like zip and swoosh and those stupid monsters were like 'whaaaa!?'; So where should I set down so we don't get vaporized by the eye?" She asked, giving a quick glance back to where the labyrinth lay. "By the way, Rainlock can bite me. When I first heard about you, all I wanted was to take on this job just to have a chance to meet you. She may be able to pay well, but I appreciate skill and finesse over bits anyday and colt, you got all the finesse. Uh, don't tell her I said that though - that mare is scary."
