So they were atop ground during the battle as well. Fascinating to hear. He raised his hoof and rubbed over his beaten eye, "Mm." It was likely he wouldn't bother the doctor with the comatose stallion. Chances are it would only aggravate him or her... this making his stay that much more uncomfortable.
He shifted up, blinking, and looking down to his leg, "I was the unicorn the unicorn that-...", he flicked his eyes away. No, no more of that. It was frank that nopony liked to hear, let alone believe what services he'd given during the siege. So he skipped ahead a few weeks, leaning back in his wheelchair, "I was bein a little too friendly. Getting together some bits through odd jobs for anypony I saw that needed some help.", Shade looked himself over, grimacing a tad, his horn starting to glow.
"Griffons got themselves a temper, the big ones alright.. Unbeknownst to me I ended up in the sewers... In... almost this entire condition.", he leaned to the side, resting his head on his hoof with a very distasteful glare off to the corner of the room, his eyes flickering through certain scenes of his endeavor, "Then arrested despite my willingness to comply... Then a night in the cage...", he rambled off, wincing as his leg flared on him, "Ah...", he closed his eyes, "I did nothin wrong... well...", he looked away, "Except for bursting a sewer pipe~", just so they knew where the raw stank came from.

The room had gone silent after Shade's story, both Ink and Peach looking at the unicorn awkwardly. Telling them he had spent a night in jail seemed to have put an elephant in the room. "I'm... not entirely sure I followed all that, but uh, I guess the sewer pipe explains the smell," Ink spoke.
Not long after a nurse came into the room to collect the paper work, telling Shade the doctor would be with him shortly. "Oh, uh, there's something you should know about this doctor," Ink stated. "He's not exactly a... 'world-class physician'."
"That's an understatement," Peach added.
"Yeah, so just, don't expect the five star treatment... or the four or the three either."

Well can't say it didn't surprise him. That's what a pony got for not thinking before he spoke. Shade let his gaze fall into a level gaze, handing the paperwork to the nurse, "Right, thank you...", before shaking his head. He was starting to feel dizzy now that he had the time to rest and actually think about what had happened to him.
And when the Griffon(Or Pony. It wasn't specified) Had left the room, he scratched the back of his head with his hoof, "Well so long as it gets me all fixed up I won't really complain.", not true. If it was unspeakably painful...
Pooled within the awkward silence it left him flicking his gaze around the room, then back to them. He was beginning to think about how the last two days would have gone had he not accepted that delivery. He wouldn't have lost his book, nor his hat... and he might have had plenty more money had he done something else. Right about now Shade would have given his broken leg to have a redo.
"... Right.", he sat back, mellowing out, and letting out a smooth, long sigh, "I'm sorry.", he apologized, "Please, Don't take me the wrong way...", scratching his neck, eyes peeled on the ground, "I haven't had the best night.", looking up and giving an uneasy smile.
Turning to the door, wondering how long 'soon' would be.

It turned out 'soon' was very soon indeed. Not too long after the nurse had left, an older male griffon had walked into the room, holding a clipboard. He looked to be a mix of some sort of brown-feathered harrier and a clouded leopard. The feathers on the top of his head were thinning, and he spent a good several seconds looking around the room before finally fixating his sight on Shade. "Ah, there we are, there we are," he said, making his way over to the injured unicorn.
"Up. Onto the bed," he said, indicating for Shade to climb up onto the rolling bed next to him, waiting impatiently afterwards for the unicorn to do so. "Now, what was the name?" he asked, putting on a pair of spectacles and looking down at the clipboard. "Ah, Shadestride. Hmm, weirder and weirder they get, don't they? Let's see, broken leg was it? Also seems you've got some heavy bruises, minor bleeding, swollen eye, not to mention the smell. I imagine you fell down a griffon-hole, probably how you broke your leg. Have a nephew that did that once."
The doctor lifted up one of Shade's forelegs, getting a better look at one of his scabbed over cuts. "We'll have to get you cleaned up, get those sores disinfected. Heaven knows how many diseases you might have caught down there but we can at least keep you from catching anymore. He then moved on to Shade's head, prying open his swollen eye with his two talons, "Mmm. I can give you something for the eye, but it should correct itself in a week or so. Perhaps better to just leave it alone." Almost immediately afterwards, the griffon had wrenched open Shade's mouth, looking inside for a moment before digging a talon in, feeling around Shade's teeth and tongue. "Well the teeth all seem to be intact. That's good news. No wait... no, never mind. Everything's there."
Finally, the doctor removed his talon, wiping it on a nearby towel. "Right, the leg. Tell me how much this hurts." Without warning, the doctor had grabbed Shade's broken leg and tried to bend it at the knee, sending a blazing amount of pain right to the limb.

The moment his leg was even touched did he cringe up and grit his teeth very hard. Shade could not help but near yelp... sweating out most of the pain, "GAH!! Yes'Doc! Tha's a might bit uh pain right there! Sir!", Leaving him panting, frozen in place so he wouldn't lash out to get the griffon away. But when it was over and done... he'd merely hold a grudge for the next five or so minutes. They were right. He wasn't first class. But Shade expected far worse... this physician was just a lttle too hands on. His ears pinned down as they went through all those other procedures, keeping quiet and a low profile until he was done.
After that the pony let his head back, exhaling nice and easy, "Tha's right doctor. Didn't see'et comin. Somepony must've forgotten to put up a warning sign...", he'd stay his ground on that one. He'd only told the other ponies the truth because... well... he gfigured being honest about it would put him on a higher karma. But then again, things didn't seem to work that way around here like they did back home, "Sunk right down into it like a rock ta water~"
Shade gave a most hefty sigh, letting his head down and looking back around the room. Yes... plenty of aches and sores to go with all the infections his wounds had accumulated. "Thank you doc~", getting cleaned up sounded wonderful right about now. Just so long as they didn't touch his darn leg!

The doctor didn't react much when Shade called out in pain, merely pushing the leg a little further before letting go. "Mm hmm, well first thing's first. I'll have one of the nurses help get you cleaned and your sores disinfected. Then I need a better look at your leg. Probably going to need a cast."
The doctor scribbled something down onto the clipboard he had with him, then left the room without so much as another word. A few minutes later a griffon nurse had arrived, waiting for Shade to climb back into his wheelchair and rolling him into another room. Inside was a very crude shower, with a stool Shade could sit on. The nurse helped the unicorn onto the stool, then handed him a bar of soap and a shower brush. "Let me know when you're done," she said, pulling the curtain forwards between the two.

It almost felt like the poor Unicorn was being whisked across the world in mere moments. Blinking as he listened to the rattle of the curtain rings agaisnt the metal rod. He let out a hard sigh, raised his hoof, and then cringed up as the water was very cold at first. But warmed to a survivable temperature. It felt good to wash his mane and fix himself up, scrubbing out his swollen wounds and watching as the brussels on the scrub breached the scabs and puss ran down in droves. It actually stung so bad at one point it was nothing more than Shade panting as he watched the water rince it away. There was blood... but nothing fatal. He was already exhausted.
And then his leg. Well it was poor in almost every imagineable way. But at least he was clean now. Stinging and burning from the soap cleaning out his infections... but clean. His mane no longer felt like slime.
"Excuse me, Nurse?~", he called out for, closing his eyes and dousing his head in warm water and washing out the last of the soap. He'd done a number on himself in the last five minutes of bathing. Some point's he scrubbed so hard it was rubbed red raw.
Shade turned the faucet, and lessened the flow to a drizzle in order to clean his utensils, "By chance I'm here a night or so... could I perhaps reserve a chess board?~", that sounded like a swell way to pass time right about now. If the unicorn was going to be stuck here the whole night perhaps he could aqquire some form of amusement. Maybe lighten the tension with the ponies back down the hall, "It would be very sweet if you could maybe find one not in use?", he tried to sound as nice, and polite, and sweet as he could be. But it seemed most of the Griffon's just wouldn't have any of his attitude... it was likely in vane. And while he was surrounded by curtains and out of anypony's view... it gave a bitter glare into the distance before the pain of being so tense defeated him, and Shade gave a heavy sigh, "I'm finished, Ma'am~"

"I'll see if we have any chess sets, but I can't make any promises. The hospital's pretty full already. Likely all of ours are already in use," the nurse spoke. When Shade had finished showering, she pulled back the curtain and handed him a towel, waiting for him to dry off. The next thing they did was get an X-Ray of his leg, then she rolled him across the hall to another room. Inside she had him sit down on a long table of sorts, very likely the same table where the other ponies had had their surgeries, at least considering how small the Pony Ward was.
There the nurse went about the task of disinfecting wherever his skin was opened, using a cloth and a clear solution she had in a bottle. Whatever it was made his sores really sting, even after she had stopped applying the cloth. After she had covered most them with simple bandages, she left Shade alone at the table. The doctor arrived not long after, holding the developed X-Rays.
"You've got a transverse fracture," he stated, putting up the photos on a lighted panel for Shade to see. Sure enough, the images showed a crack running through his bone, running horizontally across the leg. "But it's a very simple one. A cast and avoiding putting strain on it should do the trick. Now in terms of casts, I've got two options for you. The first is our more traditional cast. It's heavier, will slow you down a bit, but it's also sturdier. Oh, and you can't get it wet. So please avoid swimming or playing in the rain, or at least tie a bag over it."
"The other cast is lighter, more flexible. I'm not going to recommend running around in it, but it'll slow you down much less than the other. However, you'll also need to wear it for a longer time. And if you get hit there or fall on it, it is not going to be good for your leg. Whichever one you want me to use is up to you."

It was much to consider, seeing as Shade had this entire ordeal been given nothing BUT two-sided decisions. Keeping quiet, or accepting jobs. The list was short but very frequent in repeating itself. Laying back on the table, clacking it hooves together and twiddling them about very idly he looked over at his X-Ray photographs. If he could stay out of trouble the secondary would be beneficial, not to mention he could leave for Canterlot in a much less embrasssing fashion, coupled with an increased mobility. The Unicorn would have to be very careful.
Though the second one seemed just as justified. He'd be less prone to damage at the cost of speed, "I'd ask whichever you'd reccomend primarily but..", it was he who made the ultimate decision.
"I'll have to take the second option. I need to be able to get around. But'ah promise I won't be gettin int'a any trouble in theh meantime.", the unicorn nodded. He swore his loyalty to the council in charge of the city but he WAS granted freedom to come and go as he pleased. If he went to Canterlot~... Things wouldn't be so bad considering the amount of magic he could possibly aqquire. Learning from the best sounded like a fine deal, "Second Cast it is.", he sat up just a tad, gritting his teeth as he tried his hardest not to move his leg.

"Second cast it is," the doctor repeated, scribbling more notes onto his clipboard. "We'll need to get one fitted for you, and stabilize your leg in the meantime. Lay down for a minute while I get some measurements."
The doctor set aside his clipboard on a counter, digging through one of its drawers until he had found a tape measure. He then went about taking the various dimensions of Shade's leg: the width, circumference, length. "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly brought you to Royal Rocks Shadestride. Now is hardly the time I would expect vacationers to visit, what with the rebuilding of the city and all."

Oh how he began to hate that question the more and more it was asked. Should he answer it up front, honestly? Or should he just lay back and dodge it's apparent hostility. He tapped one of his hooves along the table as he allowed the griffon physician to collect his data and write down his porportions.
"Well... I was here before the attack really...", the unicorn gave a hard sigh, "Sort of. I was seeing a friend. Eh the Griffon Ambassador... Shoel. Ever heard of him?", he looked away, blinking and staring off toward the wall, "I was low on cash back in Trottingham... And I was looking for work so he told me he could perhaps land me a job up in de Palace for a while!~", before shrugging. It wasn't the whole story... but it certainly was casual enough to keep him out of trouble.

"Afraid I haven't heard of this 'Shoal'. Then again, couldn't name any of our diplomats if I had to. Not sure many griffons could actually." The doctor pushed down on Shade's leg unexpectedly, sending a sharp spike of pain as he got it flatter on the table. "Mmm, lanky one aren't you? Could take them longer to make the adjustments for your cast. But we'll do our best to get you out as quick as we can. I'm sure the palace has been keeping you extra busy what with the recent change of leadership. And the less time you spend away from the job, the better."
When he had finished with his measurements, the doctor picked back up his clipboard, scribbling down a series of numbers and notes. "I'll have the nurse come and get you in a few minutes. Going to give you some medicine for the pain, but the best thing that can be done is avoiding moving that leg. Once the cast is in we'll have it fitted and move on from there. Could be a day or two." Finally the doctor finished his motions on the clipboard, looking back up at Shade as he removed his spectacles. "Anything else you wanted to tell me?"

Shade snapped his teeth tight together to avoid letting out a sheer spout of agony. He was strong enough to do that at the least. If it took them all night he would not care too much, just that he may get gone by the end of the week, "It's no rush Doc, take yer time..", pleasentries was all he could really do, not wanting to risk being undermined again which had been significant to this entire week... such thoughts made him bitter.
"Aside from askin for another ice pack? Nothin much beyond it...", he gestured to his swollen eye and smiled with an uneasy hope to find some smidgen of a friend in this doctor. At least someone he could trust enough not to kill him would be enough for Shade.
Aside from nodding in obedience and mentioning his last bouts of requests Shade had little else to convey the griffon for. He would wait patiently for the cast.. eventually he began to feel around, but remembered he... did not have his hat anymore. Well it was a tad odd to lack it, afterall it represented a part of him as a whole, "Ehm... no thats all.", the unicorn nodded, ready to be mended up and be on his merry way once all this medical business was cleared up.

"I can certainly get you an ice pack," the doctor answered. "And if that's all I'll put in the order for your cast and medicine. I'll stop by tomorrow to examine your condition, but if for whatever reason something starts acting up, just tell one of the nurses. If they need to they'll find me. Until tomorrow, Shadestride."
And in a blur Shade's doctor then turned and exited the room, leaving the unicorn alone until the nurse arrived to take him back to his bed. There she handed him the ice pack he had asked for, and set about the task of wrapping his leg in medical bandages. As she explained, the bandages were needed to keep Shade's leg at least somewhat stable while they waited for the cast to arrive. It was flimsy (it was sure to fall apart if Shade even tried walking in it) and by no means a permanent solution.
Ink Slinger examined Shade with his good eye as the nurse began wrapping his leg. "Well at least you don't look as dirty. How long did the doc say you were in for?"

It wasn't as if he actually planned on getting up and running around with it in the first place. Despite the feeling of being tightened around the leg and becoming numb from limited blood circulation? He would survive the night. The icepack he placed firmly over his swollen socket and covered it up, gritting his teeth at the mild pain it caused before soothing into it. It had been quite a week.
"Thank you, Ma'am...", despite the fact that just about any griffon possessing a strong distaste for mannerisms. Or at least most of what he'd seen... guess it just ran within the species.
When he was rolled back in with all the others he got comfortable in place, being assisted onto the bed and giving a hard sigh, tapping his hoof on the arm rest and resting back. He looked over to Ink Slinger, "Two days at theh slowest ah'hope.", the young unicorn wizard would be vastly alone at that point, "so where'you going once you're out of here?"
