Name: Shadestride Scythe
Gender: Male
Age: Older Teen
Species: Unicorn
Pelt Color: Olive brown pelt color. Lighter underbelly, and darker ears.
Mane/Tail Color & Style: His mane and tail are sharp black. It is downy like fluttershy's mane, but short at his forehead, and long down at his side. His tail is lengthy, but does not touch the ground.
Eye Color: Deep Ocean Blue
Cutie Mark: Golden Skull caught in black chains. Which he would usually cast an illusion spell, making the cutie mark look much more regular, and natural like say a wine glass, or a flower, even a lightbulb.
Residence: Trottingham
Occupation: Mostly cover-jobs, and minoot tasks to keep him on other's goodsides. He is majorly a pony of Adventure... but for a bad purpose.
Talents, Skills: Shade's specialization is mostly Dark magics, or more importantly Magic with much more dark purpose other than to inflict pain. He has always been fascinated by the old forbidden books around him that nopony had destroyed. And in response, he has abided his time to take what skills he had, and meld them into something more powerful... he is no master, but he is getting stronger every day. He is manipulative, and a talented lier
Likes: He is usually reading to pass his time. Magicks. Adventures. Mare's he finds interest in. Dancing. Swarrays. riddles. Twists. Outsmarting those around him. Stirring up trouble. Covert disguise. Acting. Overpowering others. Spellcasting. Pretty Ponies. The thought of becoming something more than a Unicorn... Youre screams of eternal suffering. Rounded off; He is a gentlemen with plenty of Dark intentions, and interests. He has an interest in Princess Luna(Attitude varies)
Dislikes: Pure hearts. Being cooped up too long and unable to do anything. Being outsmarted. He despises Celestia, Griffons, and Diamond Dogs alike... but would use them to his advantage, going so far as to fake his interest for them.
Character Personality: Shadestride is a strange Unicorn. His initial thoughts on the world around him is all but horrible. He sees it as a window of opprotunity, and most of his life--due to numerous deprivations of his childhood-- he has always dreamed of a chance to make an impact on the world around him. He tends to be ruthless, but at the same time, can be fair, and even likeable... of course assuming you are not aware of what he truly wants. He has a craving for raw power. He is a little greedy, and always lusting for some form of command over those around him. Again, despite all the shortcomings, he has his plusses... he can care for his friends, and show even true kindness despite his self entitled leadership ability. He feels himself very intelligent... perhaps a little too generous of himself. And is hesitant to make friends unless through trial and error... he would rather know a Colt or Mare through adventure, and hardship, than taking the time to make a friend the usual way. He can, or cannot be trusted time to time.
Bio (optional) : Shadestride Scythe was born in the Equestrian farmlands of the far south, unimportant, or just not large enough to mark as a real location-- on the forum.
He was raised in a farming community until he was old enough to leave home, finding he had no life there, and realized there was a chance for something more in the outside world. And when the war began between the Diamong Dogs, Griffons, and Equestrian blood began, he saw nothing but a window of oprotunity.
He began life as a wanderer, going town to town, learning what he could from anypony who possessed a skill or two worth picking up. Mostly tips on how to work a conversation, or to bargain your way through paying less coin. But most importantly if he could... somepony with magical knowledge he wanted. He'd stick around town for a while, and make quick cash for his next wandering.
Most recently he is held up on the island of Trottingham, with little more than a few bits to buy a night's rent, a journal of his recorded travels, the latest book of magical tips, and tricks... and of course; the hat he left home with.(Farmer's hat... like a Puritan from the Crucible)
Note: Shadestride for this forum has a normal long, sharp horn for this forum respectively.

Ok there is one glaring problem. Shade's horn being a blade. It doesn't align with how our ponies work. That being said, there are a few alternatives you could consider.
1.) Shadestride could have filed his horn into a blade, but this would cost him the use of magic permanently. Horns don't grow back here.
2.) Shadestride could have a blade attachment to his horn. However, this would disrupt his magic while wearing it and would require in-story training to be able to use it effectively in combat.

Are you sure this would be a problem? It was never meant to be a melee weapon, just for looks. It was an unnatural thing to be born with. Plus its kinda like a trademark for him. Blade horn.
I mean... I guess he could use it as a weapon, but it was never intended.

Well either way, we just don't accept those types of deformities in that state. If you insist on having such a horn, then it's going to be considered a birth-defect/handicap and you'll have to give-up the use of magic for it.
Otherwise, it'll have to be cosmetically added and not a genetic trait and will also still affect magic use while being worn.

So if Shade used a mounted blade on his own horn, as he went along would he not be able to train himself to become better at it even with a handicap? I dont mind a challenge if the benefit is getting better with magic while purposely wearing a distinct handicap attatchment... and then taking it off, and becoming a lot more threatening.

If he wore something that simulated a bladed horn, and if you want it to be a weapon you could train in it but either way he will be handicapped with magic while wearing said device.
If you go the mutilated/mutated horn route, then no magic what-so-ever.

I understand the mutated thing isnt going to work, we've gotten that down A-ok. With all respects of course, I understand.
But yes or no; Would He benefit from training with a mounted horn weapon by using magic repeatedly as though he DIDnt have it. purposely making it difficult to fine tune himself.
Or to I guess to make answering it a little easier; Is it 'possible' he would be able to?

Not entirely sure what you're asking. Would such a weapon be useful, specially if he was to feign being unable to use magic well at the same time? Maybe, but it would boil down to who/what he was against. It's hard to say, such a weapon hasn't been used on the board before.
Frankly though, magic > some blade weapon. You'd likely be best to just use magic, since you'd be wise to focus your character abilities in one general direction.

He CAN use magic with it, but it will be disrupted, weak, and easily countered. Also won't be as accurate. Not to mention it will be a lot harder and more draining to do so.

Seems legit. Eh here let me explain what im trying to ask.
If he wanted to train himself- He would wear the blade. He would still use magic, and have a defensive object in the process yes, and I prefer magic over melee.
but what im TRYING to ask; Would it train him into finetuning his abilities? and when he took it OFF it would be greater than if he just regularly practised magic like say... Twilight. She doesnt wear a headdressing when she trains.

It's like training for a marathon using a plastic bag over your head, it's not going to enhance anything. Again, these aren't the only options to create the effect you want and get the desired level of magic competency.
My suggestions are just suggestions, there's other options I'm sure you could think up.
