Horizon was not happy about splitting up, Hind Sight made sense, but he still didn't feel like it was the best option. Especially in a massive maze such as this one. As he and Zypfire passed the archway to the entrance, above which he could see was two lookout points, they entered the palace proper where they were instantly met with a fork in the road. As they were told, they headed left down a corridor.
"So, Zypfire, heard you got some rough and tumble with a pair of Rocs. That must have been awesome." Horizon made small talk, mostly to break the silence as they progressed.

ZipFyre trotted alongside her companion, mostly taking in the sight of such a grand structure. Horizon's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Huh? Rocs? Oh yeah! 'Fraid I was on th' verge o' beatin' one of 'em plum senseless. They was makin' such a racket. Come ta find out they was a bunch o' scaredyfillies, Soon as mentioned th' Sher, they was outta there like a pair o' prairie dogs skitterin' down their's hole. Oh, an' y'all cin call me Zip 'r Zippy. No need ta be all formal-like."
Zip paused a moment, distracted by the elaborate ancient decor. She whistled. "Hoo doggie! What about them apples, 'Rizon? I reckon if'n I told anypony back home 'bout this here place, they'd never a-lieve me! They'd say I'da bin hittin' th' cider too hard 'r sumsuch nonsensical ridiculousness."

"I have absolutely no idea what you just said." Horizon said with utter bewilderment, walking down the corridor. They reached a turn leading into another corridor, this one having 4 doors lined up on its left side. Next to each door, was a skeleton in armor. Just as creepy looking as Horizon remembered them. Now assuming they didn't try to break anywhere, they should be fine with the Skeletons. He knew that much. However, they were sent to explore, and he could not read the inscriptions on the walls to tell what the rooms were for. So it was all up to him and Zyp to decide whether to chance it or not. Four doors, one skeleton on each. Not moving, perhaps statues for deterrence, perhaps silent guards.
Farther down the corridor they could see a staircase leading up where another there was a turn to another corridor.
"So what do you think, Zippy?" He asked the mare, looking down the long corridor and weighing his options.

ZipFyre bit her lip in confusion. "Ye don't unnerstand? I'ma speakin' plain Pony. It'ain't like I'ma squawkin' like them Rocs..."
Zip paused with Horizon at the entrance of the next corridor, wondering why he seemed so hesitant. There were some skeletons in armor, but they weren't that scary... Unless they came alive. ZipFyre smirked. What was she, a filly? "I reckon we come here ta in-vestigate this here fancy house. We might as well git 'er done." She winked at Horizon. "An' if'n it's them skeleetons y'all'er worried 'bout, don' fret yer head. I gotcha covered. But watch out, they might stare atchya ta death."
With that, ZipFyre confidently trotted up to the first door.

"They woke up last time. When we went down to the catacombs." Horizon said blankly, "They woke up and they tried to kill us, almost did too." The stallion was at ZipFyre's back, not forgetting to sneak a look at her flank before fixating his attention on the skeleton. "Here goes." He said, opening the door and pushing it open.
It was a dusty room lined with shelves, a storage room. Horizon could see all sorts of tools on the shelves and various cleaning instruments. There were also chairs and candles spread around haphazardly, though mostly crumbled and dilapidated. In the corner of the room was a dark congealed stain, almost black. It was impossible to tell if it was blood or some other material.

ZipFyre gave a mischievous grin before letting out a nice, loud yelp and jumping in an attempt to startle Horizon. "Look out! Them skeleetons 're gonna gitcha!"
Without much care for her companion's reaction, she giggled herself senseless before the dust got to her nose and starting a bout of sneezing fits. Zip finally sniffed and rubbed her nose, still grinning, before finally invesigating the only bit of the room that seemed interesting: the black puddle. "What'n tarnation d'you think we got here? Looks like somepony been paintin' th' room with his own innards. Whatchu think, Horizon?"

Horizon, not startled by Zip's attempt gave her a flat look. "Looks like it, it's odd though, the other ruin didn't have anything like that in it." He said brushing by her as he entered the room and began inspecting the shelves. "... nothing. Right, well looks like we'll have to go to the next room then, I guess." He said, exiting and looking at the other door, "You do the honors this time." The colt pointed at the second door with his hoof. Standing against the far wall impatiently.
Not that he did not appreciate Zip's sense of humor, but he didn't think shouting and laughing loudly was the best idea in a place like this. To be honest he didn't really want to find out either. Deciding to let her open the door first, lest she pulls another fast one.

ZipFyre remained staring at the dark substance. "Hang on, Mr. Quickdraw. There be a right good amount o' in-for-mation we cin git from this here goo." She spat on the ground and mixed her hoof in it before spreading a bit of the resulting paste onto a section of her saddlebag. "There. Mebbe it'ain't much, but I reckon there'll be somepony interested in lookin' at this."
When Horizon pointed to the other door and told her to open it, Zip grinned. "Scared I'll pull 'nother fastun, is ya? Well, I guess we cin't all be borned ad-ventur'rs, now cin we?" ZipFyre winked at her companion. Perhaps she was "funin'" the poor feller a bit too much, but how could she resist?

Opening the second door revealed a rather dusty looking office. It was composed of a desk and several dust covered ledgers and several shelves with what appeared to be various rusty keys on them. Sadly the keys were rusted out of shape and into each other practically, making them useless. However the ledgers were still legible somewhat, though Horizon could not read them. He placed them in his saddlebag carefuly as he inspected the unimpressive office. "Looks like a logistics office. There's nothing here." He observed the various tools on the shelves, nothing useful, mostly just ancient maintenance tools. Behind the open door he spotted a stone bookshelf with books and maps in it. He spread them between himself and Zipfyre.
"Alright, looks like we got a fair share out of this. Hind Sight will love these." He said, passing by Zipfyre on his way out and continuing down the corridor, "So far so good." He mentioned, looking at the next door. "Fillies first." He said, again letting ZipFyre open the door, might as well, since she seems so intent on teasing him.

ZipFyre blew a strand from her mane out of her face. The place seemed to be getting really boring really fast. The maps were the only things truly interesting, aside from the rusted keys. Of course, what had she expected?
Zip tucked away her share of the load and trotted up to the next door. "Ye cin git away with makin' a mare go into danger once 'r mebbe twice if'n she's real patient, but I ain't gonna do it agin, ye hear? Ye gotta have some kinda pride in yer courage, colt."
With that, she pushed open the next door.

And then she was immediately pushed out of the way by the quick Horizon, as a fireball burnt into the wall he had just been leaning against. The skeletons on each side of the corridor had awakened, four in all, and turned towards them.
Horizon barely got a glimpse at what fired the spell at ZipFyre, he could see a robed and armored skeletal form. Quickly ducking to shut the door, if at least to keep the spellcaster inside for a bit, Horizon got to his hooves and bucked at the nearest Skeleton before the latter could react, throwing its head clear across the room.
"Get those two, I'll take care of this one and that one inside if he comes out!"

ZipFyre ate her words, her attitude, and fairly everything else she had thought, felt, or said in the past day. "Well I'll be dogged! Them skeleetons do look summut lively, don't they?"
After a moment of recuperation, ZipFyre went to work. There wasn't much room in the corridor, but that didn't stop her from doing what she did best. The skeletons were ancient and no meat on them to keep their bones together. It wouldn't be too much of a problem, would it? Besides the two she was in charge of were perfectly aligned.
ZipFyre hurled herself at the enemy, attempting to knock them over like bowling pins in an alley.

Zip managed to knock aside one of them, but the other one managed to dodge her, almost scraping her with a dagger it had concealed in its armor.
Horizon charged into the other skeleton, a more beefy one and was pushed back by the unnatural strength. The chill accompanying the undead seemed to seep into both his and Zipfyre's psyche, that same sense of dread that came with every undead Horizon encountered, he almost froze in place despite having run into them before, and got nicked on his wing, managing to move out of the way just in time.
The door to the room burst open and the Skelemage stepped out, turning towards horizon as the nearest threat.

ZipFyre was still tackling the other skeletons, earning a scrape on her shoulder, when the skelemage emerged. Bereft of warning, Horizon was tossed clear across the hall by the mage. The mage now turned to Zip Fyre, who was finished dispatching the one remaining skeleton on her side, the other one still being on the ground, apparently having broken two of its legs.

ZipFyre did not notice the turning Skelemage and was hit dead on by a kinetic burst from its horn, sending her crashing into the wall all the way across the hall. Horizon managed to recover fairly quickly and dispatched the remaining skeletons on his side as the Mage was closing in on ZipFyre. He really hoped she'd snap out of it and do something. He was too afraid to use his lightning in this small corridor lest he hurts ZipFyre or activates a trap or some sort, or worse wakes up something else he didn't want to wake up.
