In the middle of the grassy knoll two pony stallions stood at a small distance. Their eyes locked, a glint of excitement and fury in each. Percheron Razorwing versus Watermark. For all their time of being rivals over Red's favor in the cult, the two of them have never actually faced each other in a duel. Until now...
"No holding back." The tattooed unicorn announced, a pearly grin on his face.
"No holding back." The opposing Pegasus agreed, launching himself with speed at his opponent.
Upon closing the distance, the white Pegasus sent a powerful kick at the unicorn, who reared up on his hind legs and deflected it with a well timed swipe, proceeding forwards with his own assault. It was in turn, deflected as well as the Red Baron twirled around, sending his kicking foot spiraling to kick away the Water Mage's hoof.
This maneuver Watermark was expecting, he quickly turned over, landing his front hooves on the ground, and sending a roundhouse kick to Percheron's chest. As he did so, one of his tattoos spread over his leg, loading the kick with extra hydraulic power, and sending the Pegasus somersaulting through the air a considerable distance.
The Pegasus grinned as he rolled back to his hooves and dragged them on the grass to halt himself. Then launching himself upwards quickly, about to fly into a cloud and charge up with some lightning.
As he passed through the cloud to the other side he was blindsided by a round kick from the Unicorn, who teleported up in the meanwhile, and landed softly on the cloud Perch was just passing through.
"Cloudwalking spell, clever." The Pegasus nodded respectfully, wiping a bloody lip, "But the sky is my domain." He grinned, shooting forwards and landing a kick on the cloud, nearly catching the battle mage as he jumped off with a bolt of lightning. Watermark however landed on another cloud and immediately shot himself up with hydraulic power, the cloud disappearing as it became a torrent of water, rising up and engulfing the soaring mage like a serpent.
The rising serpent soared high above, and from its body small bits were made into terrible icy spines, which were fired off at a high rate at Percheron. The Pegasus however, began spinning as he soared up after the serpent, creating powerful gusts around him, knocking the spines out of their paths.
As both the wind shield and the water serpent finally dissipated, the two combatants once again landed amidst the clouds. But Percheron was down by two, and he was not planning on letting Watermark stay smug. He bucked a cloud at the unicorn, causing him to lose sight of what was going on for a few precious moments.
As soon as Watermark dispersed the cloud Percheron struck from above, the double kick sending the unicorn straight through the cloud and plummeting towards the ground. As it crashed into the grass, it was evident that it was a mere water clone, as it splashed into a large puddle on impact.
The real Watermark was grinning somewhere above, already managing to create a barrier of spinning, lightning shooting clouds around him. Should Percheron be struck by one of these bolts even he would be harmed.
Taking his tactic a next level he spun around below the barrier, spiraling upwards and creating a twister, sending the clouds spiraling out of control, while also preventing Watermark from teleporting out. It was terribly hard to teleport while in motion, and when spinning at such speeds so high up in the air, it was nearly impossible.
When he was confident the clouds were no longer a danger, Percheron dipped in the twister, landing a kick on the suddenly hard surface of Watermark's side. Ice armor.
"Of course," He muttered breathlessly as the relatively unharmed unicorn was thrown outside of the now calming tornado and landed on another cloud, launching the ice armor at him bit by bit until his body was bare once more. Where Percheron desired to be a large bruise was only a minor scrape, and as he dodged the flying pieces of armor, he contemplated a solution to the tricky Unicorn's magic.
Taking off into the clouds, he charged himself with lightning, however, he did not leave through the clouds, but instead sped within the cloud, sending the mass of fluff hurling at Watermark, to hide the trail of lightning. The unicorn laughed and immediately sent a tendril of water from the cloud he was on at the approaching Percheron, precisely as he intended.
Releasing all of his charge and momentum into the tendril, he sent quite the electric shock at the surprised mage, sending him spiraling down towards the earth. The experienced mage caught himself in a wave of water taken from the grass. It was hardly enough to block his fall, but more than enough to cushion it. The grass however, was what suffered, as an entire area of it wilted into a dead state.
"Looks like the old dog still has some tricks up his sleeves, and here I thought I was the improv artist." He let out frustratingly, splitting up into five as the Pegasus landed. Percheron couldn't tell if these were water clones or just illusions. The difference was that water clones could physically harm him, and illusions couldn't.
However, it appears that it was not Watermark's plan at all, as a large watery hoof suddenly sent Percheron to the ground. He was pinned to the ground by a large water golem that was formed behind him, and now attempted to squash him against the ground.
Fighting against the pressing weight, Percheron considered his options, the five Watermarks laughed at him, but he wasn't going to give up that easily. Time to show him what makes a Razorwing. The Pegasus stallion took a deep breath before swiftly rolling in place, sending his wings up at the golem's hoof and slicing it off. Using the moment where the golem was out of balance to wrestle free, and with a hoof dragging on the grass to create static electricity, he sent himself upon the now gapin unicorns, electrocuting them all in a swift pass.
As they all disappeared, one remained, Percheron aimed an electrically charged hoof and held it above his head, smiling in triumph, before he noticed the unicorn was also smiling, as he managed to conjure an icy spike from one of his tattoos, and had Percheron really struck him, it would have impaled him through the chest.
"Stalemated." Watermark smiled with triumph. "But you were holding back..." he breathed out heavily, with the adrenaline gone, his fatigue catching up to him.
"So were you." He replied, of course, if it had been a battle to the death, most likely the entire field they were in would be totaled. Percheron supposed a stalemate was good enough, for now. At least he finally caught a glimpse of Watermark's abilities, though he knew it was the same the other way around.
"G.G." Percheron panted, causing Watermark to erupt in laughter, G.G. meaning "good game" was an expression often used in chess, or one of Watermark's golem maze games by the players when it ended.
"Percheron you're such a dork." The unicorn replied.
Percheron couldn't help but join the laughter.
