Wildfire let out an audible yawn as they entered the pitch black hallway. She had been in several cheesy haunted houses during festivals, and this reminded her of the overdone 'something is gonna pop out and try to scare you' deal. She cocked an eyebrow as the lights flashed on to reveal several ponies dancing, all wearing masks and clothes far better then her own. "Well, isn't this just fancy." She thought outloud as she brought herself down to land, to bored to fly.

"...Huh." That was all Trace could say. This place and this whole event just kept getting weirder. She slowly scanned the dancing ponies, none of them seem the least bit irked by the lights going out on them. They just kept dancing. She tried to shrug off the disturbing feeling that kept trying to creep up on her. It wasn't like she had to dance with any of the odd ponies on the floor, she was just here to see the Doctor's treasure and maps. But where was he?

Heartstring’s uneasiness rose as they made their way across the grounds. Normally a sight such as the clean lawn would have given him a sense of relief, but it just seemed out of place when compared to their previous surroundings. To say he was a little creeped out while entering the mansion would be an understatement, as it took every ounce of Heartstring’s will to resist jumping at the sound of the door slamming behind them.
He breathed a sigh of relief as the chandeliers above became lit and revealed the ballroom scene before the group. “Perhaps I have been reading too many horror stories. I just need to relax and enjoy the party,” Heartstring told himself though he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something suspicious about this night.

Ranger took Fluttershy's hoof in his own- and after an awkward moment in which Fluttershy found herself staring a little too long into Ranger's eyes, he really was being very kind this evening! What a good friend....- she allowed herself to be led into the mansion.
At first, there was darkness, and Fluttershy let out an audible yelp of fear. Then, she found her face reddening as the lights came on and the party was revealed. How embarassing! She hoped nopony had noticed her outburst. It had been quite a startling moment, but it was so dark that anypony could have been the one who shrieked. With these thoughts in mind, Fluttershy allowed herself to look over her fellow partygoers. Everypony looked so elegant and lovely... and, although it was difficult to read the expressions behind the ponies' masks, Fluttershy had the distinct feeling that they were all much more at ease than she was. Fluttershy was glad of her mask, for it hid the nervousness that otherwise would have shown on her face.
She couldn't help but notice the pony with the rabbit mask. It surprised her a bit, for her mask was also a rabbit. She wanted to go up and speak to them, perhaps ask about those rare animals... for it could only be Dr. Rainlocke, but her legs wouldn't move. She clung a little tighter to Ranger and took a few deep breaths.
"Oh... Oh my." Fluttershy murmured. She tried to summon that courage which had allowed her to make this journey, but it was completely gone.
Some of the other ponies that had arrived at the same time as Fluttershy and Ranger were looking shifty too, and Fluttershy wondered if the same thoughts were running through their minds.

When the lights went out Ranger was tense, Fluttershy shrieking nearly right in his ear didn't help either. But as the lights went back on he relaxed, so many ponies were just waiting in the dark for them to arrive? Or were they already dancing?
Whichever it was, it did not encourage the elegant looking wood pony at all. At least he could be glad he got fixed up and looked like he belonged, more or less, to the party. Noting the others waited at the entrance, Ranger took Fluttershy deeper inside, as he felt her cling closer to him. Trying to let some of his own confidence stick to her.
Noting the pony with the rabbit mask, he couldn't help but notice her mask was different than Fluttershy's, the spiraly pattern on them made his eyes feel strained, and he couldn't really look at it for too long. Still hoof in hoof with Fluttershy, he waited for her to approach them. Where was this Doctor Rainlock person?
"You alright Fluttershy? You got a bit tense earlier." He asked, turning to his friend now, as they waited.

She hadn't expected the dark, although quite relieved when the light returned, something felt off about this entire gathering. Quietly Candle moved around to the front of the group, gracefully pushing her way to a better vantage point. There was no sign of the doctor, and after the startling yelp from the bunny masked Pegasus she was growing tired of her current company. Only the quiet nagging feeling in the back of her mind was keeping her from going out and attempting to socialize with the ponies already on the floor. Normally she would feel more comfortable in a setting like this, she could usually stand to socialize at formal events like this having grown up participating in them her entire life. It proved to be an effective way of getting her out of her shell, since she had been prepared for parties like this, but now was just...
Candle forced a smile. There was no sense in turning this into a bad experience based only on "gut feelings". The others certainly seemed to be emotive enough as it was. With the cover of her expression she almost seemed to be standing stoically with them; waiting patiently for their generous host to greet them. Ignoring the whispering of the group, Candle took a glance over the small crowd in front of them, making a thorough sweep until her eyes rested on the pony in the rabbit mask.
Quite curious now, she held on to her sophisticated composure and watched. She would be forced to talk to these ponies eventually tonight; that she was sure of, so it was good to observe beforehand how they interacted with each other. And her group certainly wasn't lacking in a characteristics that kept the ponies differentiated.

[[[Alright guys, go about for another round telling what they are doing, I want to see some in-player interaction before I move this along more. So just interact with each other until I advance the plot (which may be at any point, so get at it!) ]]]]]]]

Aside from the fact that they were all inside and the mansion didnt end up being deserted, Selenia still felt a little uneasy.
Insofar, none of the ponies had even registered their arrival. No welcome from Dr. Rainlock, if the pony in the middle was him, no party staff carrying around trays of bubbly champagne and exotic hors d'œuvres.
Also, every single pony was dancing, which was quite odd, as Selenia expected at least a few to be standing on the side, enjoying food or talking, but there were none. What wa even stranger was the fact that their movements were perfectly synchronized, not even a second of latency among the twirling pairs of ponies. Surely they couldn't know the choreography and timing that flawlessly.
Intent on getting the best out of this night, she shoved those uncertainties to the back of her head and began to walk around the dance floor so she could get to the pony in the center of the room and introduce herself.

Wildfire chuckled at the fear some of the other ponies were showing. If anything, she wasn't entirely bored anymore, though she still didn't feel like being in front of the group. She looked around at the othersi n her group, only now getting a good look at them. A rag-tag bunch of ponies, all wearing masks. She doubted she would know any of them to start with. She shrugged and shook her hood off of her head, letting her mane flow freely. "So, do we wait for somepony to show us around or do we dance to the creepy music?"

Candle turned back towards the Pegasus who had decided to break their relative silence. Clearly she had had no experience in these matters whatsoever, which caused her to scoff. It couldn't have been that difficult to see the decision they should make, could it? "Well, if you'd like to intrude on the festivities already taking place by all means go right on ahead and break their... their..." She had to agree, it was quite creepy the way they were dancing. Almost entrancing, but not in a pleasant way. Shaking her head, she looked at Wild again "The proper action at this time would be to wait for the doctor's greetings before beginning anything."
Her glance was cast over the group before returning to the green Pegasus. "Although I highly doubt a ruffian like you would understand correct etiquette for these civilized gatherings." Her posture didn't seem to wither as she made her assumptions clear. With a smug and challenging grin she stared back at her.

Trace had momentarily slipped into a daze as she watched the ponies dance, but was snapped out of it by the voices next to her. She turned to two pegasi arguing next to her, and was going to stay out of it until the posh one said something that tweeked her.
"'Ruffian'?" Trace stepped closer to the owl-mask wearing pony, "Well, excuse me, your highness. But we were all invited to this party, so wither you like it or not, we're all on even standin'." she stomped a gloved hoof for emphasis. "And you might know a few more thin's about attendin' these fancy parties, but that's just cause the rest of us were too busy actually doin' somethin' with our lives." she blindly accused the owl pony, while glaring at her through her mask.

The gray dog-masked pony listened to these arguments, and watched the crowd dancing. Since all those already present seemed to be dancing in pairs, she had nopony to join up with, even after studying that dance manual. She sighed, and looked for a place to go be a wallflower.

"Oh yes, I'm much better now." Fluttershy lied. "This party is so... unusual."
The dancing ponies held no interest for Fluttershy, all she wanted to do was go off and find those exotic animals and plants. But she had to be polite, and that meant waiting to be showed around. The few ponies that weren't dancing were nearby, and as Fluttershy looked over them a few began to argue.
"Oh..." She hated disagreements, and she wanted desperately to try and calm down the pony that spoke with the same accent as Applejack, but she didn't feel up to the task. She was very wary of speaking out her opinion to strangers, more often than not it was unwanted anyhow.
Shuffling her hooves nervously, she looked back at Ranger.
"To be honest... maybe I'm not okay." She confided. "I know this may surprise you, but I don't always do very well in large crowds of strangers."

Ranger, smiled at her, "It's alright, after all, with your mask on, you can be anyone you want! You can be a sophisticated lady, or a down to earth, practical mare. Hay, you could even be a super-hero like me!" He nudged her gently with a soft chuckle, before turning his attention to the people fighting.
"Hey, you three, cut it out." The Earth Pony said, stepping towards them, "First of all, you're making my friend very uncomfortable, and second, this is a party. Have fun, I mean, way to spoil it after only three minutes." He laughed again, "Ms. Owl, I can't speak for the rest of us, but I know I am not really a high-class pony, but that doesn't have to stop us all from getting along does it?" At that he turned away and returned to Fluttershy's side.
"Some ponies..." He shook his head disdainfully.

Heartstring let out an audible sigh and shook his head. They had just arrived at the party and it seemed the guests in his company were already at each other’s throats. He was just about to ask the mares to calm themselves when Ranger spoke up. This would have been the perfect chance chance for him to use some of his training to take control of the situation, but the woods-pony was a tad quicker it seemed. He eyed his opponent, the only other stallion to arrive in their group, as he tried to find a way to salvage this predicament. After a few moments, Heartstring decided that it was time for the peacock of the group to make himself know.
“I couldn’t agree more,” he said stepping forward, stopping just short of the three for what was unmistakably a pose “Now can’t we put aside our differences for a bit of enjoyment?” He turned his gaze to each of the mares, pausing for just a moment on Trace in order to take in her full appearance, before he relaxed and waited for thier response.
