"He-hello?" a small voice called out carefully in the dark streets of Manehattan at night. The scared voice belonged to a small filly, bruised and scarred down her dark reddish brown fur. Cuts lined her back and her long dark hair was shredded at the ends. Her bright blue non-seeing eyes were stained from tears from hearing her parents burn from the flames of the dragon's heath. He steps were shaky, but firm once touching the cobblestone ground. She had no where to go now. This was the only place she could think of coming to once Ponyville burned down. The only place she remembered directions to since coming here as a foal with her parents.
"Is anyone there?" she knew that it was night time by the smells, but she hoped that somepony would hear her pleas. She cautiously stepped through the town, limping slightly on her left side from a burn from the knee down. She sniffed delicately at the air, trying to find any hint of diamond dog or drake, and found none but pony, though most likely asleep. "Please... can anybody help me?" she asked, starting to shiver from the autumn air and open wounds. She took another step and ran into a cart. She collapsed to the ground and laid there, too exhausted to continue. She flipped up her tail like a blanket, and curled up. It didn't seem like anypony was out there to help her now..[/blockquote]

And suddenly a quick set of clops approached her, and she felt a hoof gently on her back, "Are you alright little filly?" A male voice asked, it paused for several moments, where she could only hear the pony's rapid breathing as it was trying to decide what to do. In the end, it seemed he was unsure of the source of her injuries, and wanted to play it safe. She felt her body rise up and the warmth of the pony's back now beneath it as he lifted her up.
"Don't worry little one, I'll take you to my apartment, you'll be safe there. We'll take care of all your wounds and you'll be up and about in no time." The voice said occasionally she felt his mane whirl about as he turned his head to make sure she wasn't falling off his back. "Right up here, going up the stairs, careful now." He said, as his body tilted upwards, making sure to remain steady so she won't fall off.

Night Lock had passed out on the cold cobblestone pavement. When she woke up she was moving somehow. Something warm and strong was carrying her. "Right up here, going up the stairs, careful now." a voice said. Instead of questioning it, she held on with her forelimbs as securely as her weak muscles could manage. Memories flashed through her mind. Shreaks and screams from her parents and the gargles from their throats moments before their imminent deaths. She remembered the smell of burning and charred flesh. She remembered running away, tripping over miscellaneous debris. Rocks, wood, and some softer objects that could have been dead animals or worse, another of her kind. She cringed and tried forcing the memories away, but they kept attacking her mind. She tried instead focusing on what was going on. The cold night's air was gone. It felt like she was indoors. Someone's mane was in her face and she was strangely comforted. She yelped quietly when her savior hit a step she wasn't expecting and her back jolted some pain down to her hips. She caught her breath and gritted her teeth. "Who...Who are you?" she squeezed out to the stallion carrying her. "Where am I?"[/blockquote]

"Lower East Side, near the Waterfront." The voice answered, "Who attacked you?" he asked sharply, not yet answering who he was, "Did you get a good look at them?" They finally reached a landing and she felt the pony's mane lower as he fumbled to find a set of keys. She heard a clicking noise as the door opened and they went inside a rather warm apartment. The door closed behind them and she felt herself lowered unto a soft platform, probably a sofa.
"There, all safe now. The colt said, walking away to fetch some medical aid. "I'll get some bandages and creams for your wounds. How long have you been wandering around the city?"

Night Lock's ears were still ringing from the screams of her parents. She wanted to flatten her ears against her neck, drown out the sounds, but she knew that it would be no good. It was in her mind. All in her head. Plus her ears were her sight at the moment. She heard the voice speak again, telling her where they were. His information meant nothing to her. She didn't remember much of Manehattan at all. She groaned as he stopped and lowered her onto a couch. Her weight sank into the cushions and her breathing relaxed as she tried easing her body into a more proper position. She yelped slightly when she tried tucking her legs under her. That wasn't going to work. Her head turned to the voice of the stranger.
"Dr-dragons.. I think.." she stuttered slightly, her voice still incredibly weak and shaky. She blinked her non-seeing eyes, noticing how crusty they felt. She must have been crying. She didn't remember, but then again, her mind was occupied with other things. "And.. No. I c-can't see..." she said, finally answering his question. She gasped as the wound on her flank gave a sharp pain for some unknown reason.
"They were...big. Heavy... Sh-shook the Earth..And there w-was fire...everywhere...hot..so hot..screaming.." she was starting to not make sense with her words. The screams and burning memories enveloped her mind. She shoved her forehead against a pillow, trying to muffle it all. The screams got louder. The roars of the dragons echoing in her ears. Almost like laughter. She remembered a claw ripping through her flank, scratching all along her back. She remembered something burning against her pelt. Fire. Debris hitting her from all directions.
"An hour...I..I think.." she said quietly, answering his final question. She rest her head against the pillow as he walked away for supplies..[/blockquote]

"It's alright dear, you're safe now." The pony's voice said from a distance, hooves coming closer, "This war sure is horrible. Thank the stars for Lady Rainlock's security forces." She felt the odd sensation of having cream rubbed over her burns, "These don't look good, but they'll heal alright. Going to have to clean you up though, once the cream sinks in. Your coat looks horrible and I can't tell where the blood is coming from." The colt retreated again, lifting her head gently to provide a more comfortable pillow. "Do you want some hot chocolate? I think I have some left over. I don't know how you got past security to get in the city, but you're lucky to be alive if it was dragons. Where are your parents sweetie?"
She heard the sound of cans in the kitchen as the pony was looking for something, probably the cocoa powder. She heard them fumbling around in every cabinet, taking out cans and putting them back in, trying every shelf. "Oh there it is. Silly me, I forgot that's where I keep it." He said, then proceeding to look for clean mugs. "It'll be ready in no time, just relax, you're perfectly alright now."

Night Lock's eyes looked blankly into nothingness as she tried remembering. She didn't remember any resistance when she came in. She must have come across a time when there was a break in the security. It made her wonder if there were any others in this city that might have snuck in as well. She doubted any dragons could get in without being obnoxiously obvious, but she knew that there were others involved in the war as well.
She shut her eyes and shuddered. Hopefully there will be no more attacks on her. She didn't know if she could take it. She vaguely heard the colt mention hot chocolate. Her stomach churned, she didn't have the appetite for anything really, but she heard his steps walk away before she could tell him. She didn't answer when he asked about her parents. She couldn't answer. Her bottom lip trembled like a little foal and she bit it to keep the tears inside her head. Dead. She couldn't get the word to come from her lungs, up her throat, and out her mouth. The saulve that was applied to her wounds lessened in the tingling sensation and smoothed out as it melted over her dark reddish brown pelt, soaking deeper into her wounds. She groaned quietly, trying to stretch out her legs a bit more, letting the stuff move around to heal her faster. She wasn't sure who this was, but she was very grateful for his help.
"Th-thank you..For all of this..I-I didn't think anypony would come help..me" she said. Her head fell back onto the cushion, trying to relax her muscles some more. [/blockquote]

"Don't mention it, dear, we're all ponies after all. If we don't look out for each other, who will?" Asked the kindly voice. "My name is Bug Eye, I'm an entomologist, used to work up in the Rainlock mansion in the exotic insect section before all this started. Now Lady Rainlock's out in arms fighting those Diamond Dogs." He said, "I've been hoping the rest of Equestria was doing better, but I guess that's not the case, here you go dear." The voice came nearer, placing the cup of hot cocoar on the table in front of her, placing her hoof on the handle so she knew where it was.
"If you want I can go fill some hot water in the tub so you could wash up, you can sleep here tonight, naturally."

Night lock rested her head on the pillow, wincing as the wounds on her back began to pulsate now that they were exposed to the air. She had an ear turned toward her caregiver as he spoke about his name his old career. She supposed that explained the odd name, but she brushed it off. She didn't know how things went around this city. She listened to the cup of cocoa being placed down on a table nearby. Through the vibrations on the floor, she could feel exactly where it's position was, but regardless, her hoof was guided and placed on the handle. She brought it carefully to her mouth and took a tender sip, but placed it back on the table. It tasted delicious, but truth was, she didn't have the appetite for anything right now. Instead, it felt as if her stomach was full of bile about to come up her throat. But since it was impossible for the equine type to throw up, it came out as tears instead. She wiped her face off on her foreleg.
He then offered to fill a bath and for her to stay there that night. She sighed. A bath did sound nice, but her parent's screams filled her ears and mind constantly. She flattened her ears against her head and repressed the urge to throw her head into the couch and scream. Instead, she took a deep breath and exhaled. "A bath would be great...Thank you.." she said, breathing evenly now. "My name's Night Lock." [/blockquote]

Without a word she could hear Bug Eye go to the bathroom and she heard the water start running. "Should be ready in no time at all." He called from the bath room, walking between the room, probably putting fresh towels there for Night Lock. Then coming back with a soft pillow and a blanket to the living room.
She could hear some noise from the street outside, a few stallions joking around as they went through the streets. "Another Rainlock patrol." Said Bug Eye, "They're becoming more frequent." He commented disapprovingly, "I just hope all of this will be over soon."
"Is there anything else I can do for you, Night Lock?" He asked, she could feel him sitting down near her. "Is there anyone you want me to contact? Anywhere you'd like to get to tomorrow?"

Even though she was still awake, nightmares began to grab at Night Lock's mind. Shapes and figures that she had created herself were forming in her mind, screaming her parents' cries and creating a very vivid like pain though it wasn't tangible. She bit her lip to keep a scream back. The monsters were lunging at her with their knarled claws and barbed hooves. Blaming her for the disaster. Large flames licked at her pelt, burning her, scorching her. Shadows flooded around her and stared her down, trying to suffocate her under their weightless bodies. She forced her eyes open and tried to steady her breathing..but since she couldn't see anything the nightmares kept attacking her. Her own images of her dying parents calling for help in freakishly distorted shrieks of pain. The monsters she couldn't see at all since they never touched the ground, flapping above her head, screaming their terrifying shrieks of their own. She snapped her ears back and shook her head so violently that the pain in her back snapped her back to reality.
She eased her breathing and tried to focus on what Bug Eye was saying. Rainlock? She never heard of that pony... if it were a pony. She lifted her head delicately when he sat by her. "I...don't know anyone.. I don't know what to do... or who to call..." she said.. She was very grateful for his care right now.. but she feared that once she was better, he'd place her in an orphanage or just kick her out on the streets..[/blockquote]

"I see..." Bug Eye said, apparently thinking deeply for a moment, she could almost hear him considering what to say next. "Well, it won't be easy, but if you want you can stay here. I don't, well have anything to accomodate for your disabilty... nor do I have the money to purchase anything like that, so I'm sorry in advance."
She heard his hoofsteps as he went to check on the bath, "It's almost ready, do you need any help bathing? Can't be easy to move around with all of those injuries." Bug Eye offered. She could hear him move around the apartment between rooms some more, and some noises coming from a room he was probably turning into a guest room.

The dark red/brown filly was already at his side when he was preparing the bath. The colt must not have heard her approach. When she had been laying on the couch, she had regained some strength, well, enough to make it to the washroom.
"Thank you.. Bug Eye... I really appreciate all you've done for me...Without you.. I'd be stuck out on the streets.." she thought about giving him an appreciative nuzzle, but thought better of it.
"And I can get around just fine.. when i'm... healthy.. I've learned to 'see' my own way.. but.. I th-think I'll be alright to bathe.. on my own.." she pushed her long mane back over her shoulders and stepped into the prepared tub. The water was hot, but not scalding. The soapy bubbles rose and tickled her nose. She sank down and held back a scream as the water entered her wounds. The pain that had been somewhat numbed before was resurfacing. She dunked her head momentarily under the water, letting the fluid soak into her scalp and face. When she resurfaced she took a deep breathe and turned to her samaritan.
"Thank you again.. for helping...me.' she said gratefully. She reached out and picked up the loofa sponge that had just bumped against her shoulder. She attempted to scrub off the dried blood and dirt off of her back. She winced and dropped the sponge, standing up involuntarily in the tub. "I'll.. I'll figure this out.." she said gasping a bit. Asking him to help bathe her seemed like a bit much.[/blockquote]

"It's perfectly fine dear. I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. I'll take care of you, don't you worry. I'll go out tomorrow and get whatever you need. Make you a nice little corner, though I'd have to shift the living room around a bit." Bug Eye said, she could hear a bit of a startle at the beginning, as Bug Eye was probably surprised to find her there.
"Here, let me help, it's really no trouble." Bug Eye said, picking up the sponge after Night Lock dropped it, "Just try to stand still, I'll be gentle, alright?" He asked, hovering the sponge over the back of her neck, waiting for her consent to aid her.

She sighed and dropped her head, letting him go to work at the wounds on her back. She turned her head as if to look at him, but her blue eyes looked on unseeingly. "Why.. are you helping..me?" it wasn't that she was ungrateful, but she found it extremely too good to be true that the only pony she had come across sounded like he would help her with no matter the ailment. "I mean.. I'm extremely grateful.. but most others would have wrapped a gauze on me at the very most and have thrown me out on the street.." she relaxed her body, letting him work, wincing as the soapy water soaked deep into her tissue. She lowered her body into the water until she was completely submersed. Soon she got used to the pain and the numbing sensation took over until they were scrubbed again.[/blockquote]
