"Sure, I'll keep my light up!" Lime replied to Zip. The more light, the better she figured. With this storm darkening the area light was vital to see what was going on. She then became aware that the ponies weren't the only creatures in this storm of sand. What are those things? she questioned herself. Like the ponies really needed more trouble on their hands, this sandstorm surely was alot to handle itself!
Lime nodded to Nexus' suggestion that she take on the brunt of whatever seemed to be threatening them. Lime wasn't exactly a pro at combat and decided just to help with that if need be. As Apple Cider wanted to attempt to lasso the 'thing' Lime aimed her light in the direction she needed it. Lime kept enough light going to see but didn't overdo it as that'd wear her out. "Alright, I've got my light goin' so you can try and lasso that thing Apple Cider!"
"What in Equestria are those things?! They sure ain't doin' us any good." As she kept her light spell going she tried to get a better look at whatever was flying around. Lime kept an eye all around her as whatever it was nearly hit her a few times. It was just really hard to get a good look with all the sand flying around everywhere.

ZipFyre snorted sand as she turned her attention to their possible foe. Whatever this thing was, it wasn't getting past her. Period. Raising her wings in anticipation, Zip tensed, ready to spring an attack at any moment.

And just like that, Morrow Rose and Apple Cider were swept away by the massive gusts, having low footing stability, they was carried away by the winds to the edge of the storm, leaving the other ponies to take care of the problem themselves. The creatures, whatever they were, kept on in their business, something had to be done soon.
Just like that, out of nowhere, one of the creatures collided forcefully into ZipFyre, and she found herself hanging on the outstretched wing of a massive avian creature, the wind and sand slamming against her face. In the height of the sand storm it was impossible to know which was was up or down, and the shrieks coming from the creature she was hanging on to were not helping in any way.
From the ground it was barely possible to tell the outlines of the creatures, they were about to collide again with each other, perhaps causing an even bigger gust in their wake. The winds began whirling fiercely and howling, creating an intense atmosphere around the area.
Whatever was going on with these creatures, it undoubtedly had something to do with the golden objects on the ground. Perhaps the best way to stop them would be to take the objects.

Breathing heavily, the spelunker kept a wary eye out for any sign of incoming assaults; her attention was diverted as an especially powerful gust of wind and sand powered through the group. Even she, the stocky unicorn, was hard-pressed to keep her footing. Tunnel saw with alarm as Morrow Rose and Apple Cider were swept away by the unrelenting force of the storm.
"Horseapples!" the spelunker cursed vehemently. Hopefully those two were okay, but it only left her, Lime, and Zip to deal with these things. With only three, they couldn't afford to go in blind; somehow the group needed to figure out what they were up against. A golden glimmer caught her eye.
"Hey! We need to get our hooves on one of those gold things!" Without waiting for an answer, she huffed and trudged through the storm towards the nearest of the objects.

Zipfyre spit sand from her mouth and bit on her ribbon to keep it from flying away. Blind, stupid animal. What in Equestria did it think it was doing? With a growl, Zipfyre pulled herself onto the creature's back, retied her ribbon around her mouth, and tapped the creature on its shoulder. "Hey, Buster! What in tarnation d' you think yer doin'?" The creature seemed to be too intent on its screeching to listen, so Zip dropped from its back, flying just behind it, and landed a good kick to the creature's rump. "I SAID, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING???"

Even while plodding through the stinging sandstorm, Tunnel found it odd that there was no response from anypony. She hazarded a quick glance around, and to her horror saw that not even Zip or Lime were there any more.
It was then that something like a red pony whisked overhead, holding on to something. Nexus rolled her eyes; of course somepony would go for the heroic, save-the-town-on-your-own route, charging in alone. Heck, it probably would've been her if there had been slightly different circumstances.
Pushing those thoughts aside, the gray mare locked her gaze on the golden object not four pony-lengths away. Steadily she plowed her way through the whirling sand until she was close enough to touch it, then picked it up in her hoof.

Still no response. Frustrated beyond all reason, ZipFyre clamped on to the creature's tail to pull herself back onto it, reaching the creature's head. Snorting, she decided if she couldn't reason with it, she'd just have to redirect it somehow.
Zip bit into a mouthful of feathers on the creature's head and pulled, putting all her weight onto one wing to turn the darn thing around and maybe force it to land. Through clenched teeth, ZipFyre cursed her assailant up one side and down the other. Had her mother been present, Zip knew she'd have gotten the chew-out of a lifetime for her language.
"Ya great bag o' manure, turn already or I swear I'ma gonna pluck th' derned feathers right off'n yer bulbous head!"

As soon as Tunnel grabbed the golden objects, the creature Zipfyre was riding on pulled into a sudden and violent halt. For the single moment that both creatures stopped to see what was touching their coveted treasures, the sand cleared enough to allow the ponies present to see what they were. Two rocs, their normally brilliant golden feathers coated with a fine layer of sand and dust. These heavy-duty weather birds were causing the sandstorm while fighting over the shinies. It was obvious now.
Everypony knew Rocs were friendly creatures, and knowing that these were in fact rocs, was a good sign. They were probably just too caught up in their feud to notice what they were doing. Noticing now, for perhaps the first time the ponies gathered the rocs both descended into the ground, each cawing wildly, trying to tell their own version of what they were doing.

ZipFyre went spinning as the Roc she had been riding came to a halt. Confused, she followed it back to the ground. The roc and its companion immediately burst into half-crazed attempts at excusing themselves from the situation.
"Whoa, there, gennelfolk. I can't understand a darn word yer a-sayin'. One at a time, if ya please. That's it. Nice an' slow now."

The rocs both stopped mid sentence then one gestured with a wing to the other, who immediately began to caw out indignantly, what he was saying though was beyond Zipfyre. At one of his comments his compatriot joined in again and they began arguing once more. The second roc finally raised his wing and turned back to Zipfyre, a determined look in his eyes.
"Caw" He pointed at himself, "cawcawcaw caw" he pointed at the shiny pile they were fighting about, "Cawcaw caw cawcawcawcaw caw CAW" He pointed at his friend, the last caw very acusing, "Cawcawcawcaw" The other one replied with an angry "Cawcaw, cawcawcawcawcawcaw." To which the other one shrieked in protest. Truly it was a cacophony of caws.

ZipFyre couldn't understand a word the gargantuan birds were saying, but it was obvious the shinies were at the root of the problem. ZipFyre tried to think of what her ma did under such circumstances.
"Aight, y'all, lookie here. I cin't tell if'n one o' y'all took th' other's shiney thingy or if'n ya just need somepony ta help split th' darn things evenly. So I'll tell ya what I'ma gonna do. I'll just put these here thingamaboppers in th' Sheriff's place until I cin git a translator and we cin settle this civil-like. Y'all're causin' a ruckus in mah town. Darn-near blowed it ta bits!"

Though Zip couldn't understand what the Rocs were saying, the Rocs could obviously understand what she was saying. At the notion of having a sheriff involved the two panicked and immediately took to flight. Obviously afraid to get in trouble. Within moments they were merely dots on the horizon, leaving whatever it was they were arguing about behind.
Upon closer inspection, it seemed to be an assortment of jewelry, but even Zipfyre could tell they was more than just fancy accessories. Each piece of jewelry glinted with magical powers, and with the rocs forfeiting them, they were all hers.
