The room at the end of the hallway in Canterlot University's dormitory was a disaster area. Clothes, bedsheets, and myriad other items were strewn about haphazardly. Amidst the chaos, a brown pony ran around frantically, tossing aside random objects in a desperate and fruitless search.
"NonononononoNO! It can't be gone! It can't! It is still here somewhere!"
Bygone's shoulders sagged, defeated. After four fruitless hours of looking, there was no way the box was still here. Somehow he had lost it on his way here. Holding back a nervous breakdown, he started feverishly scrawling out some posters on any scrap paper lying around.
Missing Object: small wooden box, dark brown. Please help search; if you want to help, see Bygone Era at Canterlot University, Room 115 West Building. 250 Bit reward to whoever finds the box.
Beneath, he scribbled pictures of the box; it was about a hoof-width wide and long, and half as tall. On the top of the box was inscribed a carving of his Cutie Mark.
Finished with the posters, he ran around Canterlot posting the papers.

Apporta was walking through the campus, admiring the area. She knew the university like the back of her hoof as she was enrolled in the school for several months. Suddenly Apporta stopped and noticed a poster attached to a bench. Reading the note, she was amazed at the reward amount. "Wow. This box must be important if the pony is willing to pay 250 bits as a reward." Still Apporta didn't care about the money. Helping other ponies was her reward.
Fifteen minutes later she was in the West Building and approached room 115. She was surprised at how messy the room was. Obviously the pony was desparate enough to tear apart his whole room to find it. "Um... hello? Bygone Era? I found your poster and I want to help you search for your box."

Bygone's head appeared from out of a closet.
"Hm? Oh, you're here to help? Thank you so much-" He stopped mid-sentence when he finally recognized Apporta. "Oh, uh, it's nice to see you again." Darn it, why can't I remember her name? I really need to work on that... "I really appreciate your help on such short notice."
Bygone stepped out of the closet, his appearance in shambles. He sighed nervously. "I was thinking about waiting for maybe one or two more ponies before we head out; is that okay with you?"

Salmana entered the academy that she once trained in before, looking around she noticed papers all around the academy, a missing dark brown box, 250 bits, Bygone Era. the name of the pony jumped at her face, she knew bygone and she remembered the dept she owed him maybe this could get rid of my dept to him, but this does seem important so dept is no issue... but still.... she kept reading the notice that was on the wall room 155, west building. that area of the school seemed familiar again, and she wondered why it was so familiar. West building......ah yes the west building that is were my dorm was , was room 286... now were is room 155... she thought of the room while trotting toward the west wing
As she entered room 155 she saw bygone and apporta. "you two, apporta, bygone, oh have i missed both of you, anyway down to business, about this box." she stoped and looked at the messy room blinking in disbelief.

"Oh hello Salmana. Nice to meet you again. Yes, I am interested in helping to find your box. Before we search all of Canterlot for it, do you remember where you saw it last? That way we could get a good starting point."

Apporta! That's what her name was. Phew...
Bygone saw the others' looks around the messy room and smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, yeah, I was kinda focused on my search... it's not usually this messy, trust me. And it's good to see you too, uh, Salmana."
The brown stallion looked away embarassed. "I guess I didn't think about that. Thanks, Apporta. Let's see... the last time I saw it was... at the Canterlot Gate, on my way home from Hoofington. So it should be somewhere between here and the gate." He sighed. "That's still a pretty big area..."
((OoC: I think I may have mislead you, I was intending that the last time Bygone saw the box was at the Gate, and he lost it somewhere between the Gate and the University. Sorry if there was any confusion.))

"WHAT?! HOOFINGTON AND CANTERLOT GATE?!?! oh brother." she looks at the door that led to the exit Wait...... i know the area between canterlot gate and hoofington, i could look all around there!" and she trotted out of the door and around the corner, her then come around the doorway "come on guys, i don't know what the box is or why it is important, but it id bygone's and that is all i need to know."

"At the Caterlot Gate? Well I guess that is a good place to start then. Even if we don't find it there, that will be a good place to retrace your steps Bygone." Apporta then stepped out of the room and stood next to Salmana. Obviously the white unicorn knew where the place was where they would start looking. All they had to do was wait for Bygone to accompany them.

"Oh, heh heh, what's in the box? Well, it's, um... it's... my... horn..." admitted the stallion. His face was burning red, and he inspected the floor like it was an intricate pattern. Keeping his head down as though it created a shield around him, he shuffled out the door behind the other two ponies.

"your horn is in the box....... oh....... well then we have to start now." Salmana said as she walks strait down the hall to the main exit of the academy, and she still admired the architecture of the place.

Apporta was a bit perplexed at what Bygone explained was in a box. A unicorn's horn couldn't be removed, but somehow it was. She followed Salmana and Bygone out of the adademy, her mind filled with questions. Finally she decided that she had to know. "So, Bygone. How is it that your horn is in a box and not attached? I'm sorry if it is something personal that happened, but it is not everyday that I hear a unicorn with a similar... problem."

Bygone took a deep breath to calm himself. "I... it's okay, I just have a hard time talking about it." The stallion bit his lip, trying to decide whether or not he wanted to go into further detail.
"I was on an expedition with some of my fellow students and a few professors; we were in an old castle, looking for anything interesting. It had already been explored, so we thought it was safe, but... apparently a dragon had moved in. He was angry at us, so he... attacked, and, um..." Bygone couldn't continue; his voice was already cracking. He smiled wryly to try and change the subject.
"We should get going, otherwise we'll never find it," he said half-heartedly.

interesting, but how could that happen, now this is something i have to look into. salmana thought but she still focused at the task at hand, and that was to get bygone's horn back and that was it.
"so bygone, how long has your horn been, well, off. she asks while walking besides bygone

As apporta walked with Salmana and Bygone, her mind was swimming with thoughts. How can a unicorn lose his horn? Wasn't a horn made of strong material? Was Bygone hit by some magic spell? Could he still use magic? Could he even still be considered a unicorn? She decided that these questions will upset the poor pony, so she tried to change the subject.
"So you last saw it at the gate in Canterlot, so somewhere between that and your room the box went missing. Do you remember, Bygone, going into any other buildings besides your room? Did you just follow a straight path from the gate to your place, or did you travel somewhere else?"

"It's been almost two years now..." said Bygone wistfully, his eyes unfocusing; thoughts of the good old days started flashing through his mind, memories of what magic felt like.
Coming back down to reality was painful, but he continued quietly. "Anyway, after I got through the gate, I went straight back to the University. No, wait a second... come to think of it, I stopped by Pony Joe's on my way back for a little snack. Maybe we should start looking there?"
