Glide stood outside the caves and looked around at the ruins of Canterlot and sighed softly. War was brutal on everypony, even the innocent. The enemy will not show mercy to the ponies who aren't even fighting. It was obvious from the diamond dog attacks and the obvious condition of Canterlot. Thinking about her family Glide knew she needed to learn how to defend herself. She needed to be able to keep herself safe and protect them when she saw them again.
Right away she headed out in search of somepony to teach her how to fight. Preferably air to air combat. After all she was in the air force and a pegasus she just had no idea who would want to teach her. she had no experience fighting with anypony besides verbally.
Flying around the ruins of Canterlot she became more uncomfortable not having anything to defend herself or anyway to fight increasing her speed scanning for anything to give her any ideas.

The city of Canterlot was bustling, less with the normal day to day activities and more with ponies clearing debris and ... well the unlucky ones who didn't make it. Tesla's griffons were a great aid in this, using their keen griffon construction skills to erect prefabricated shelters and help clear a lot of the debris.
It came to mind that perhaps it would help studying air to air combat training from the griffons themselves, but they weren't very approachable. Most of them were task oriented and paid little attention to them. Perhaps the best idea would be to find some sort of mediator to hook her in... had to be someone she could turn to right?

Landing on the ground near where the griffons were erecting the shelters and walked over offering her assistance. "Do you guys need any help?" usually getting ignored or looked at before they returned to their work. Whispering to their peers and looking between themselves and herself. This was awkward. She tried asking other griffons to at least break the ice. Offering medical aid to the ones who were wounded, or help clearing debris. She never was very good at meeting new ponies. What does a mare have to do to get some attention around here? Apparently if you weren't a griffon and you were trying to get the attention of a griffon, nothing.

The griffons continued to ignore her and the rest of the ponies around didn't seem to have much in common with them other than working together to rebuild. Perhaps it would be best if Glide Heart returned to the palace and found some sort of official. Her commanding officer wasn't present, but perhaps she could ask someone else? Someone HAD to be around to answer her requests, right?

Agreeing with herself and finding it best to see if somepony in the palace could help her. Since no pony here was helping her, she took off and flew toward the ruins palace. She hated to get in the way so she searched for somepony who looked like he knew what he was doing or where any official looking ponies were. Maybe he would know who could help her?
Everypony seemed to be in such a rush or distracted. Probably traumatized by their homes new being carted away in carts. Coming to the realization while looking at the remains of a house that she didn't have a place for herself to stay. All the more reason to find somepony to take her under their wing and teach her. Hopefully they would be able to show here or give her a place to stay in one of the shelters being erected.
Coming across a pony looking over what looked to be blueprints she introduced herself "Hello, my name is Dr. Glide Heart. Is there some pony around I can talk to about somewhere to stay or some pony to train me to fight?"

The pony chuckled mirthlessly, "That pony over there might help." He said, pointing at an armored pony who was standing with his back to them. A couple of other ponies laughed behind his back as they turned back to their blueprints, not giving Glide Heart a second thought. The thought of a fighting doctor was amusing enough, but Glide Heart sure knew when to pick her time. Canterlot needed healers now, not warriors.
The armored pony was still facing the other way, looking over the ruins of the palace rather forlornly. Apparently he had come out from the large medical pavilion used by Luna and her War Council. Which meant he might know someone who could teach her how to fight, probably a griffon or a pegasus...

Feeling embarrassed at the ponies laughter, she blushes and quickly trotted away. The unknown frightened her and she had no idea what she was doing here. Was getting trained worth this level of discomfort? It was rather silly to think that a medically trained pony would be fighting against the ones hurting hurting her patients. And in such hard times when there were plenty of injured ponies and more then likely not enough ponies but, her family came first which meant she needed to know how to keep herself around if something else happened. With all the other ponies down for the count ever hoof helps if something were to attack.
Walking toward the pony the others had pointed her to she gently tapped on the ponys armor to get their attention. "Um.. Excuse me... I was told that you could help me with my little problem? Or someone who could help me?" She hoped she wasn't interrupting that pony.

Once the pony had turned around to face her it was almost impossible not to recognize him. No wonder the ponies laughed when they pointed her to him. She had just went and made a fool of herself in front of Field Marshal Starling himself. She had just tapped the Fieldmarshal, an international hero, the highest ranking officer of the Equestrian Army and direct subservient of the Princesses themselves on the shoulder as though they were equals. The very pony who had vanquished the Blood Fang pack, destroyed a dracolich, defeated the Ice Queen and braved the undead was now standing in front of her in full armor, looking as impressive as one could expect and radiating power. She had just disturbed him, her superior, with an "Umm... excuse me."
Good job Glide Heart.

"Field marshal Starling sir! I am so sorry I had no idea it was you. Forgive me for interrupting you." She had no idea if she should bow, salute or hang her head in shame. So instead she stood at attention and saluted him with her wings fully extended, and blushing a bright rosy red as well as making it a point to herself to tell off those ponies with the blueprints later.
Remaining perfectly still and silent as a rock she tired her hardest to avoid any more embarrassment. Good going Glide not even pausing to see if the pony looked familiar at all even from behind. She could get into a lot of trouble for this little mistake of hers.

The Field Marshal blinked at her once and then said, "Don't worry about it, standing and staring is not as important as some higher ups would have you think. But you obviously have me at a disadvantage here." The armored pony gestured at her and shrugged, "If I may ask, what's your name? Maybe I can help you with your little problem, who knows? I tend to think of myself as a sort of problem solver."
Glide Heart could hear the blue print ponies snickering behind as her as they quickly went on their merry way, each to their own section of the construction site to start giving orders to the builders.

"My name is Glide Heart sir, I'm a medic in what used to be the outpost here." She said as she relaxed from her salute. Her cheeks blushed even harder at her embarrassment now from the apparently unnecessary saluting. To imagine how much of a wanna be kiss up she looked right now. Listening to the ponies behind her snicker only mad it worse. When she got her hooves on those ponies...
"I was looking for someone to train me to fight. I want to be able to protect myself and my patients." She caught herself staring in awe at the field marshal having never seen him this close before. She was feeling a little star struck in fact. "I...I don't think you would want to waste your valuable time training a medic pony how to fight."

"Sorry, Glide Heart, I'm only here for a limited time. You wouldn't survive my training anyway, but I'll tell you what. How about you go to Admiral Tesla and ask him to hook you up with one of his griffons? They're probably going to be here a while. Tell him I sent you, he shouldn't cause any trouble." The Field Marshal said, patting the mare on the shoulder.
"Keep doing the good work saving lives." He bid her away before he turned away and disappeared into the bustling city.

Glide caught herself staring in awe again as he walked away, much like you would star at a movie star or the princesses, she sat down and paused for a moment. She really just talked face to face with THE field marshal. She would probably never get that chance again. Shaking the stars out of her head she sat back up and took off in search now of Admiral Tesla. She hoped he was right about him not giving her trouble. She was about done today with trouble.
Just before leaving the area though she made sure do fly above the ponies with the blueprints and hit them on the head with her hoof as she flew by. Making sure her hooves were low enough to go below the hard hats they had on.
Flying and weaving through the wreckage of the ruins she headed for the medical pavilion she had heard the Admiral would be. Clearing her mind as she flew to relax herself and focus on the task at hoof. Landing finally at the entrance she blended nicely and made her way through the crowd asking a nurse were Admiral Tesla was and following her directions to where he was.

At the medical pavilion, it was easy to recognize Admiral Tesla in his Tesla armor, flanked by his two body guards. He was busy talking to another Griffon from his fleet, possibly a lower officer.
Around her she saw the bustle of medics and healers tending to the wounded, it appeared the presence of Luna and Cadence encouraged the healing process and allowed the ponies to feel confident and reassured.
She noticed one sealed off bed and caught a glimpse as she went of Red Charge standing over a bed, possibly with that VIP patient she heard about earlier. Admiral Tesla was not paying attention to her at all.

Looking for a moment at all the important ponies she never thought she would be this close to she shook her head and turned back to were the Admiral was standing. "Admiral Tesla sir" she called and saluted to him proudly. The guards noticeably frightened her as well as the Admiral himself. She wasn't sure what else to say but remembered what the Field Marshal told her. "Field Marshal Starling told me that you could help me sir so he sent me to find you before he left."
Her ears laid low against her head and remained at attention with wings raised high as she tried to tune out the hustle and bustle around her. She wanted badly to help out and blend back into the crowd but knew she was there for another reason and had no say in the operations or care of patients at this pavilion. She wondered just who was in charge of patients here.
