Before the attack The day began as the last few week had. Dr. Heart would see her patients from the day before and either check them out or move them to a more permanent area. Then she would begin seeing her new patients of the day from pegasi with clipped wings all the way to the tragedies of the war front. She would receive these patients from far and wide with several different injuries from cuts that had become infected to sever traumas. The medical stations on the front were not properly equipped to give full treatment to pony's with greater injury then cuts and scraps, so her and her fellow doctors and nurse ponies were they're usual last resort. Later in the day though, the amount of patients decreased and it was unusually quiet in the hospital wing. "The beds are unusually empty today, maybe we'll have a slow day today?" She was probably jinxing herself and coworkers when she said that. "Don't say that Dr. Heart! We need all our troops out there fighting to gain back our land not in here being patched up!" said her nurse that was currently working with her on her area. The nurse was right, the military force was not meeting its requirements for numbers. Not enough ponies want to risk they're lives on the front and would rather be where its safe. Who could blame them, she thought as she herself stayed in the safety of Canterlot to avoid looking like the ponies she patched up. There are times when she had wished she learned to fight and battle. She wanted to defend herself and found the concept of battle slightly fun and exciting, yet she had her colt and husband to think about and needed to stick around for them. She couldn't risk to much and leave her family behind in this world. This was an argument she often had with herself; learn to fight ,or risk losing her family. During the attack Dr. Hearts day dreaming was cut short by the commotion outside opening the door to the build they were in she saw chaos outside. "Nurse get as many pony's as you can and set up a trauma bay. A rather big one. Also, GET MORE STAFF IN HERE NOW! I want every pony who can survive outside the hospital out now and on their feet. we're going to need every available bed.
Dr. Heart knew nothing good would come of this chaos, and she had a hunch that she and the rest of the staff was about to be flooded with a whole mess of new patients. She continued to bark out orders to the nurses on staff. She took charge in all trauma situation from her extensive experience. The whole room paused as the loud booms of cannon fire were heard and then a long pause. As the cannon fire continued Glide resumed barking out orders and preparing herself for the worst. Soon after Glide had gotten prepared waves of injured pony's came in, so far only civilians caught in the fallen tower. She quickly triaged these pony's and sent them to either be looked after in a not as busy area or to be treated immediately. Soon wave after wave of pony's came in a Dr. Heart didn't take the time to notice weather they were her fallen comrades in the air force or more civilians. She was quickly processing and trying to help as many pony's as she could. unfortunately many were lost in the fray and she could not revive them. She had to time to mourn for their loss she would have to do that when this was all over. Working like a machine she barked out orders to the nursing staff and other doctors that arrived to aid them; she worked like a well oiled machine handling this situation as best she could. The thing that pulled her out of her focus was a guard that entered the trauma bay , he was bleeding heavily from many different wounds , some of them possibly fatal. He was yelling aloud and the area quieted down to listen to the only source of information of the state of their home. "NIGHTMARES! CORRUPT! WE CANT FIGHT THEM OFF!"
Dr. Heart quickly called out to her staff. "someone call to the castle or whoever you need to so we can get some guard out here! I don't want this place to fall to whatever is going on out there. Every pony else work hard and efficient we are all doing great" The same routine went on through the battle soon the rooms were filling up and a larger perimeter had to be set up for more room for patients. The patched up ones were sent off to refuge while the more injured ones were looked after. This was by definition a doctors worst nightmare. Finally as the flares went up the panic was dwindled down and now the panic was gone. The trauma bay was a bloody mess as well as all the staff. Still there was much work to be done before any of them could rest.

The majority of the wounded from around the city have already been brought to the palace's medical centers during the Nightmare Invasion, so the tidal wave of wounded ponies thinned down to a steady trickle. The local medical staff had their hooves full and volunteers were drafted from the general populace, starting from military field medics and ending with any pony with the most basic first aid training. As if that wasn't bad enough, Dr. Silverlake and a surgical crew had been occupied by fatally injured VIP, Dr. Glide Heart heard the Royal Advisor was involved but she didn't have time to address or think of any hearsay. As a fully licensed doctor she was helping the local doctors and healers diagnose and direct the staff. It's been a devastating day - the medical staff was both physically, mentally and magically exhausted. Medicine and potions were running scarce and hobbyist alchemists were directed to create basic healing poultices and potions of the least effective kind due to the ease of their creation and the quick process of procuring them, thus enabling them to be mass produced until the court alchemists could create better batches. However supplies were running low and though healthy volunteers kept rushing in more from the half destroyed clinics and hospital in Canterlot, there was simply not enough to go around. The Nightmares wreaked such havoc so quickly in such crowded areas... all they sought was chaos and they created it, they left Canterlot in a state of chaos that made the Changeling invasion pale in comparison. Dr. Glide Heart was spending all of her energies doing her best for the ponies around her. She moved from pony to pony giving quick diagnostics and directions to the nursing staff and the volunteers before the final group had come through the doors.
Wouldn't you just know it, it was General Gallop himself along with Scimitar Razorwing and a rag-tag group of military ponies. Wouldn't Gallop head over to the palace proper for medical care by the Princess' doctors?
"Hey," One of the military ponies escorting Gallop said, quickly introducing himself as Birch Bright, "Can you take care of the generals?" He asked, signalling to a couple of his colleagues who carried he generals over to Glide Heart, one was another Earth Pony with signs of severe head trauma, the other was a unicorn who seemed, other than severe exhaustion, unharmed. As Gleam and Sunspire passed General Gallop on, Nova Blast and Lightning Dust gave up General Razorwing.
Two of the local doctors immediately tended to the VIPs, leaving Dr. Glide Heart to take care of the military ponies.

"A trauma bay? why does no one tell me about zhese things?" Dr Scalpel whispered to himself, waiting just outside it's doors. Throughout the invasion his skills had been less used than he had hoped, only being able to work on a single guard before being transported into the castle like some other citizen. Since then he had been pleading with anybody he could to get back out into the field, but to no avail. He finally gave up after several tries and a threat from one or two guards and turned to the citizens to pass the time (never mind the invasion going on outside).
The citizens, of course, grew to bore him with their petty needs and fears, so he went to look for his new zebra friend that had wandered off some time beforehand. Failing to do that, Scalpel was left with a choice; die from boredom, or find something to entertain himself. This led him to the obvious conclusion of 'sneaking' past the guards and find an adventure of his own.
The following misadventures led him to his current situation, waltzing into the room filled with multiple ponies of assorted military and medical ranks rushing about in a room almost as bloody if not more than his average work day, with only a bone saw in his lab coat and his wits about him (or lack thereof). "Gutentag," Scalpel greeted the room "I'm sure zhat you could use another helping hoof, no?" It mattered not that he was practically face to face with general Gallop, the one pony MOST likely to recognize him and know about his past "endeavors", there was work to be done!

Things had started getting...fuzzy...not long after the tower they'd fought so hard to protect had exploded. With the rise of the magical shield that had been swiftly erected over Canterlot, the air fleet attacking them couldn't blast the city to rubble. But nopony without wings could do anything to fight back with the towers all gone.
Exactly as planned...right? It was hard to be sure...
Gleam had lost track of his surroundings during the walk back to...wherever they were now. They'd had to carry the Generals here, which Gleam had no problem with. He'd followed Birch Bright.
'Concussion, maybe,' he thought blearily.
No way to be sure. Gleam had no medical training aside from basic first aid. He hadn't needed to be a doctor if he was going to inherit a mine, and he hadn't joined the medical corps after enlisting...their only medical pony had left the Slayer trainees as soon as they'd met her. What was her name again? Gleam frowned as he plodded dutifully along behind Birch Bright, ignorant to the weight of the pony he was carrying.
For some reason, Gleam felt incredibly depressed that he couldn't remember that pony's name. Maybe a nap would help him think straight...except somepony kept prodding him from behind whenever Gleam thought he might stop.
And now they were here in this...place. He saw injured ponies around, and doctor ponies. Oh, a hospital...? And there went General Gallop. Where had he come from?
Gleam's focus returned briefly when he realized someone had said something to him. Losing track of conversations and things...this was not like him at all...he couldn't remember what the pony had said, and he couldn't think of anything to say. So Gleam stayed silent.
By Celestia's flowing mane, his head hurt.

She nodded to Birch softly. It had already been a long day, for her and all her staff. She would be glad when all this was over. For now, she had work to do. Turing to the ponies who brought in the generals she spoke softly her panic now fading as less ponies seemed to enter. "Yes, please follow these doctors they will help General Gallop and General Razorwing to a room to be looked after." Now turning to the strange pony who entered answering his question "Guten tag, yes please we could use the helping hooves. Please find a nurse and she will inform you on where to go." Dr. Heart followed the group of ponies ahead of her. The generals and two other doctors turned and went down a short distance of the hall now with the generals on gurneys. Meanwhile Dr. Heart stayed behind to ask the escort ponies what had happened while also tending to their injuries. She went through the motions with the ponies asking in turn for their names and their ailments. Finding one had complaints of sever head pains she ordered for a gurney and asked the pony to lie down. She asked general questions like where it hurt. If he knew where he was, what day it was. Upon confused or wrong answers to the questions she ordered an immediate X-ray of the ponies head. The pony was placed onto a gurney and quickly wheeled to the radiology department. "I'll be there before long to check those X-rays as soon as I'm free here nurse." Moving onto the other ponies she asked them all to sit in a check up room, continuing to help them of their ailments and offering food and drink after a long day. All the while trying to find out what exactly had happened to the Generals so that she could find what was possibly wrong and fix it all. Her day was not over yet. Hi priority ponies meant she was going to be involved until they were stable, or the death certificates and incident reports were all filled out.

The Generals suffered from many injuries, including broken limbs and severe bruises, but they seemed in good shape despite so, they were both conscious and did not complain at all about their treatment. In fact, they were exemplary patients, minus the part where General Razorwing wanted to fly out with a broken wing to fight the attacking zeppelin fleet, but he was quickly talked down by Gallop before causing too much of a fuss.
Gleam's team was a different story, Birch Bright, though valiant on the field, whined at every prick and antiseptic, Lightning Dust was much more stoic, but bit her lip whenever a needle was brought near her, even if it wasn't for her, Nova Blast and Sun Spire were both given some energizing treats and were quickly on their way to assist with the Canterlot shield.
Gleam however found himself treated by a familiar face, Starspear, the ex medic on their slayer team, the one who quit. She was quite embarrassed to have met him and stuck to medical procedures, her face flushing vivid red as she hoped none of the others could see her. Though she stood behind her decision to leave the Slayers, seeing Gleam and the others as such valiant defenders shamed her... she could have been there, maybe prevented some of those injuries... but she wasn't, she quit.

Gleam tried to get up off the gurney a few times on the way to getting his head examined. In his currently addled state of mind, the sight of his teammates disappearing (possibly forever) was distressing.
Luckily for the medical ponies, Gleam was not trying very hard to get off his gurney, and they could easily manage him. Just a light push sent him right back down again. It was actually a bit silly-looking to anypony watching.
It might have gotten difficult when he had to lie still for a long, long time during the X-rays, but Gleam realized that the mildly irritated nurse telling him to lie down and stay there, for the love of Luna, sounded familiar. REALLY familiar. Gleam thought as hard as he could as to why they sounded like somepony he knew.
This meant Gleam was lying down nice and quiet for all of his X-rays, which pleased the staff to no end.
Oh, it was her! That pony...their medic who actually wasn't their medic because she'd left! And...he still couldn't remember her name. How frustrating. But it was her after all. That was good...Gleam should probably say something. Otherwise she might think nopony remembered her, and while Gleam might've known for sure what the others remembered any other day, today was not one of those days.
Still, he wanted to say something. Even as he was put on the gurney and wheeled back toward the others, Gleam wracked his poor, sore brains for the proper thing to say.
"...err...hi!" Gleam tried, "Long time no see?"
That was good, right? Gleam didn't want to be rude, but it was hard to think up anything more polite than that. He also attempted a nice little smile...considering the whole situation, it was probably far more vacant than normal. At least he could say he tried.

As she got the report from the team of ponies and treated them for their wounds and sent them on her way she couldn't help but worry about Gleam and the generals. She always felt the need to help anyone she could before herself. Hence why she hasn't taken any of the breaks she been offered during the whole situation. She walked into the rooms with the generals and set general razorwings broken wing and asked him to wait until his wing was all healed and he was released from the hospital to go out and join the battle. She then called for some of the healing unicorns on staff to fix his wing with a healing spell knowing how badly he was needed outside. They were all needed but everypony needed a leader first. The same treatment was prescribed for General Gallop. After she left the Generals rooms she made her way to Gleams room where he was placed after the X-ray. Taking out the X-rays and placing them on the wall to see them better she made a diagnosis. "Gleam I would like you to stay here for awhile. I'm prescribing some herbs that will dull your pain and hopefully your concussion will heal over time. I don't want you out there possibly hitting your head again. If you do there is a possibility your trauma will be fatal. Please, if there is anything you need at all don't hesitate to ask me or one of the nurses here." Turning to Starspear who had returned to the room to check on Gleam, she smiled and said "I'm putting Gleam into your care Starspear. If anything happens I would like you to report to me." Dr. Heart said her goodbyes and left the room to return to the trauma bay to ensure everypony was being properly looked after. Again avoiding yet another chance for a break.

When he was told to consult a nurse for what to do and where to go, Scalpel was appalled, they would dare offend him with such an obscenely low... "AH, who cares, lets just get to vork..." Scalpel whispered to himself, wandering over to the nearest nurse, he asked with a merry grin "Excuse me, I'm here to help, if you could just direct me to wherever I may be needed I would much appreciate it."
Being caught up in all of the extra work, she merely waved him off with a nod and a gesture to the nearest patient. Not one to give up a chance he immediately jumped on it. Having no background info on what was wrong with the pony he began his examinations, testing every little thing he could imagine that could have gone wrong, from which bones could have been broken to torn muscles or ligaments, to a fractured pelvis... ignoring any of the patients protests all the while.
"If I am correct," Scalpel began, wiping some of the bile from his hooves "This patient has had a brutal encounter with zhe enemy, and while his outside wounds have been dealt with for now, his right leg has been severely injured, multiple bones broken, and many muscles torn, especially vhere zhe joints meet. Luckily, no internal wounds and no severe infections." Finishing his analysis he turned to the nurse, who was looking a bit queasy from watching the whole procedure "Am I correct?"
"Er... spot on... but you could have just looked at the notes we had on the patient."
"Yes yes, but ve can't dwell on zhe past now can ve? Luckily for him, zhis is my specialty."
"We aren't going to amputate his limb..."
"Kill joy, I liked my old nurse better... fine zhen, could you go get vhat is needed for zhe cast?" While he waited for the nurse to come back with the supplies he turned to Glide Heart who had just entered the room. While her smile told the others that she was doing fine, he could tell she was overworking herself. Leaving the patient's side he walked by her and said "You look like you could use a brake, you must have been working so hard lately, vith all zhe extra work... I believe you have deserved one, no?"

Star Spear looked at Gleam pathetically, "Don't worry, you're in good hooves, we'll get you right as rain in no time. I can't believe you went out and faced those monsters... I mean, I had no idea... it hasn't even been that long since I left... they made you so strong!" Her eyes watered up, "But I don't regret leaving... they were horrible! But it's good to know you guys are okay, I thought we were all going to get killed or corrupted..."
Lightning Dust and Birch Bright both went into the room to check on Gleam, Lightning Dust had a noticeable limp and the pony behind her reeling in a bed was obviously done trying to force her to stay on it.
"Man what a rush." Birch Bright said, "So busy over here, I had no idea they did this much damage, those bastards."
"I hope they find that Warlord Sharp guy and tear him to ribbons for what he did." Lightning Dust snarled, "Oh hey Star Spear!" She perked up upon noticing her former squadmate, "Bet the Slayer training doesn't seem so bad compared to what you have going on here."
"I joined up to save lives and... that's what I'm doing. I'm not ashamed to have left the Slayers, they were horrible, I don't understand how the Princess even allows it."
"The world needs heroes, toots," Lightning Dust replied, "We can't all be sitting back here waiting for the wounded to show up." Star Spear seemed to have taken a lot of offense to that and blew up her cheeks in protest, focusing on writing down Gleam's charts. Gleam noticed her eyes were tearing a bit.
"What about the other Slayer teams though, any of them here?" Birch asked, "We were looking for that filly, what'sherface, the one Gleam has a crush on."

For some reason, the greeting didn't seem to cheer the mare up as much as Gleam would've preferred.
He had to put that conundrum aside when another mare approached and prescribed him something for his head. Good thing too, it was hurting something awful...he was starting to wonder if he'd hit it on something.
Gleam dutifully accepted the first dose of medicine, and found his mind returning to something like normal after it kicked in. Thank Celestia for magically-enhanced herbs and tonics!
He couldn't remember getting to this place after the fight at the base of the tower (and it felt like there was some kind of important fact about the tower that Gleam was forgetting) but...it was clearly a hospital or a clinic, and...ah-HA! Star Spear was here! Lightning Dust and Birch Bright were here too, all of a sudden. Gleam decided just to listen to them talk for the moment.
...At least until Birch Bright mentioned the crush.
"Not a crush," Gleam grumbled.
Birch Bright was standing closer than Dust, and impulsively Gleam tried to smack him with a hoof. Not that he was likely to succeed in doing that, even IF Birch was somehow actually in hoof-reach...moving around suddenly like that made his brain threaten to do a backwards somersault in retaliation.
Gleam had to take a momentary pause before the world settled back down.
"Besides, I think she actually wants to kill me for some reason," he added, "No crush or...or any other such thing either." ...His crippling head injury was making him awfully chatty. Hopefully that would go away once Gleam's head was all healed up.

Dr. Heart looked at Dr. Scalpel and smiled halfheartedly. She had been pushing off her exhaustion because these military ponies needed her just as badly as Canterlot needed them. It was vital that these ponies be quickly healed to get back out there and defend Canterlot. Yawning deeply she answered him. "Yeah I suppose you're right i do need a break ,but I can't take one just yet. I still have patients to check on and get ready for another wave. I haven't stepped outside but the loud booms aren't exactly assuring me that this is over." Dr. Heart smiled softly at the doctor thinking to herself "A break wouldn't hurt and if anything happened I could join back in." She looked around then back to Dr. Scalpel and asked " Walk with me to get something to eat? I could use the help with all these ponies, and I should fill you in if your willing to help. I just want to check back in with the generals and walk through the trauma floor and make sure we aren't needed." Looking around she took a clipboard off the nursing station and read it before setting it down and giving the nurse a few orders. She then nodded to lead Dr. Scalpel toward the generals room.

Scalpel happily followed Glide Heart towards their destination, and with a debrief on most of the patients he wouldn't have to do another full examination, saving time and most likely several a patients kidney or two. Having the thought cross his mind he quickly checked his sleeves and took comfort that they had stayed bright red, luckily having not contracted a green shade, His bone-saw still neatly tucked away in its little hiding spot for whatever reason he still kept it on hoof. Of course there were other worries on his mind, however they were pushed back to the back of his head for later, the most predominant of which being the whole 'Generals' aspect of the generals room... The next leading one being something completely unrelated about vampires, or mummies, skeletons?. Turning his attention back Glide he began "With all of zhe terrible buisness going on outside, I would be glad to be of assistance wherever I am nee- Oh wait, forgive me..." He chuckled "I rushed in here so eager to help out I never even properly introduced myself. Zhe name is Doctor E. R. Scalpel, a pleasure to be of service."

Today seemed like a normal day for her. All though her 'normal' was different from everyone else. She went to her shop, and opened for business. She had a few customers but then BAM! The attack happened! The jenny needed to get out quickly. She took a dozen muffins and cupcakes she had made herself with her love of chocolate( since they were chocolate) and left. Something hit her. She was caught in the fallen tower. The jenny was knocked out by a piece of rubble hitting her on the noggin. If she were wake, she would thank Celestia that the muffins are safe.
The silhouette that was next to enter the medical room was a lanky and tall donkey jennet, her mane slightly messy with a touch of straightness. Her tan fur stained with the blood of those who was less fortunate then her. The unconsciousness jenny was drooling a bit, and a bump on her forehead was noticeable. Marble had suffered some minor head trauma, a sprained leg and some of the bones in her tail where noticeably exposed and broken. She held the basket with in her hooves, and her bow was stained as well of the blood of the lost.
She woke up shortly, after she entered. Waiting for a nurse or a doctor to tend her. She was hurting big time. The jenny looked at herself, shaking as she saw her body mostly stained with other ponies blood. What if it was someone that she knew? She became distort and worried about who's blood that she had on her. She looked at her tail. Oh dear celestia it wasn't looking pretty now. Tears began to stream from her eyes as she screamed in pain. Both her head, leg and tail hurting. It was paint almost as worse as child birth.
She took off her bow in try to see what hurts. Turns out that everything hurts. Her head, leg and tail is reasonable for most of the pain. Marble looked around as she saw different doctors and nurses galloping around to different patients who's wounds are worse then hers. She rubbed her eyes and passively called out. "Hello? Doctor? Nurse? ...anyone?" She asked in fear as she waited to receive medical attention.

"Yeah, yeah, all that beeswhack about 'stealing' Nova from their team." Birch Bright said with a chuckle, "Well it wasn't our fault was it? In fact, if you ask me, I think they did it on purpose. They want us to get hated, now every other team is going to gun for us, so to speak." The Earth Pony said, "Heck for all we know Nova is one of the trainers just pretending to be a normal Joe."
"Seems a bit quiet to be a trainer. Sounds to me like something bad happened to him in that Everfree unit he was in. He's all reserved and stuff... Spitfire was never like that and she's a Major... I think..." Lightning Dust scratched her head with a hoof, "Though she did get me kicked out of Wonderbolt training."
"I actually haven't seen any other of the slayers here. I hope they all made it back okay. But then, they were all with their trainers right? I know the trainers were there, I saw that one with all the blades bring patients in."
Upon hearing the Jenny call out for help, Star Spear trotted out, asking Birch Bright to call a doctor and approached her, "Oh dear, no one gave you any sedatives?" She asked, immediately using her magic to try and relieve some of the donkey's pain. "It's not much, but I can't give you any medicine until a doctor comes by. How'd you get hurt dear?"
Birch Bright approached Dr. Heart and Scalpel, "Uh yeah, we need a doctor over there and uh... not the one with blood on his face."
