Dusk Wing cantered along through the back allies of Manehattan. Every now and then, he would look up at the night sky. He stuck to the shadows, using his naturally dark colored coat to blend into the darkness. Making his way through the sleeping city, he crept. Whenever he saw or heard Rainlock’s guards he would hide behind anything nearby.
As he made his merry way through the city, he softly hummed a melody as random as his route. Dusk didn't have a destination in mind. He just wanted to wander around the city while the streets weren't crowded with ponies having somewhere to be. This caused him to walk at a rather relaxed pace.
During his stroll a though kept popping into his head. Dusk Wing kept wondering when the Diamond Dog attacks would end. The increased security was making his late night walks more difficult to enjoy, so he hoped it would be soon.

Suddenly, Dusk Wing was grabbed from behind by a pair of grungy talons and dragged into an alley. His assailant tossed him to the filthy ground of the darkly lit alley, only saying a simple. "Shhh."
There were several people around him, a quick glance would reveal the dark shadows of a griffon, a hippocampi, and two ponies - one clearly a unicorn indicated by his horn. The other was less defined, probably earth by the outline of his large, broad build. The huddled at the entrance to the alleyway, watching for something. They hunkered down behind some trash and rubbish as the hoofsteps of somepony approached... they waited till one of city guard was right at the mouth of the alley and struck. All of them leapt out and grabbed the poor pony from behind as the griffon planted a shiv right into the guards neck. "Shh, quiet my droog and relax. It'll be over soon."
The griffon, with the help of the earth pony dragged the body into the alley and tossed it in beside a dumpster as they stripped the body of its armor and weapons. He passed the items to his cronies before turning to the purple Pegasus in their possession. They hooted and hollered like a pack of apes at their small victory, tossing pieces of the guard pony's armor to one another.
The hippocampi slapped Dusk across the cheek, trying to get his attention. "Hey, you just were part of a murder! How does that feel, my malenky pony?"They spoke in a odd street language, but it was clear, these were not good people and Dusk just was dragged into their web. The hippocampi snatched up Dusk's fedora, twirled it in his hoofy-fins and planted it on his head.
A street light flickered on and threw off the veil of Dusk's new found 'friends'. The griffon was a Peregrine Falcon, crossed with some sort of exotic feline. The hippocampi was of the shark variety, and the suspicions of the two ponies were correct. One was a unicorn with a drab coat, and the earth pony was an ugly, off colored green.
The griffon slapped the guards helmet on Dusk Wing's head, giving him a harsh slap on the back as he did. All four were laughing as they picked the pony up by the forelegs and dragged him further into the alley. "Raz for some fun, malenky pony. Does that zvook dobby? You smot tense, let's fix that for you." They had him by the arms and were very insistent, nor did they appear up to negotiate about this new found 'fun' Dusk found himself caught up in.

While Dusk Wing had been taken by surprise, he quickly recovered his bearings. But then his captors had murdered that guard. When he saw that, a sense of fear engulfed him. His fear lead to panic as he desperately tried to think of a way out of this.
When the hippocampi took his fedora however, a bit of his fear was replaced with a determination to escape. Thinking clearly now, he attempted to come up with a plan to escape. Struggling wouldn't help things as they kept a firm grip on him as they carried him away. Running away wouldn't help either, for what would happen should they catch him?
Dusk wondered what he was attempting to escape from. Though, he was certain it was something unpleasant, to say the least. He felt that if he knew what they were going to do with him, he might be able to find an opportunity to escape.
Attempting to keep the remaining fear out of his voice he put his thoughts to words. "What are you going to do with me?"
He was afraid of the answer, but felt that it could provide him information. If not, then it could at least help him stall them long enough for him to think of a way to escape. If so, he might be able to figure out where they were taking him and go from there.

The hippocampi leaned in close, his foul breath hitting Dusk Wing’s face like a coast front, like a mix of salt and day old fish. ” What's that, droog?” He mocked, beginning to bubble with laughter. ”You like fun, do you? That’s all, a lomtick of fun. Ain't that right, my droogs!?” The group erupted in cackling of gnollish laughter.
The griffon approached next, snatching Dusk Wing by his chin from the slippery Hippocampi’s grasp, ” That's not ittying to be a problem, is it? I swear, if you make so much as a whistle, I'll dress your glazzies with bits.” He took the shank, tapping so very gently the fur below Dusk’s eyes. One, two, and then followed by a sharp scrape down his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood. With his free talon, he licked the trickle of blood upon the curved digit, showed the others in the crew, and then sucked off the blood. All four broke into laughter once more. ” Come on, let’s itty some fun. You’re in the company of the Slaughter Housers after all, what that a treat? And this city is ours, now.”
The unicorn in the gang sent a zap of magic at Dusk’s flank, enticing him to get up and move. The four then flanked him from all sides. The only where to run was up, and between the unicorn and griffon, it was doubtful the Pegasus could get more than a few meters before they were on him. Trapped, he appeared, and at their mercy as they forced him deeper into the alley.
There, beyond the martial law streets of the city, the gang intended to lead Dusk into the seedy underbelly of Manehatten. They had wares to hawk to a fence; the best of Rainlock’s forces were in their possession. The stuff they took from the unfortunate guard would fetch enough bits for their ‘fun’. Though, why they grabbed Dusk was only a guess. Was it that he was now an accessory for a murder, after all, Rainlock was not known for her mercy. Perhaps he was an insurance plan, pin the blame on the poor pony who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or, perhaps, they were like cats to prey – playing with their food before finally sinking their claws and teeth into him.

Dark Flare was up late at night in Manehattan. He came to Manehattan before the Diamond Dogs attacked, and he regretted coming ever since. Not because of the threat of the mongrels, but because he hated being in one spot for too long. Now he was a prisoner inside these walls, having to follow the ridiculous rules of the guards.
He accepted the situation, however, and he agreed with the rules this Rainlock set forth. He knew they were set in place in order to protect the citizens from the Dogs, and he respected that. He had finished gathering supplies for his fireworks, but was unable to put on a show because of the curfew, so he decided to use this time to try and develop one of his stories more. The only light being a small, orange glow from his horn.
Laying there for a couple of hours made his body ache, so he took a moment to stand up and stretch, dispelling the light from his horn as he did, so as not to attract attention from guards and thus not giving anyone a reason to bother him.
He looked out the window of his cart and stared at one of the city guards as they walked towards the cart. He placed the cart right next to an alleyway in order to give himself multiple avenues for business and escape. The guard eventually trotted in front of the alleyway and he was suddenly overtaken by several shadows.
The night was lit very dimly, so all he could see were the outlines of the figures. However, even in the low light, he could see a sharp object being thrust into the guard's neck. The figures retreated into the alleyway, dragging the body with them, and he heard the murderers' sounds of success. Dark Flare stared at the blood on the ground, mouth agape, taking a moment to process what just happened. However, after hearing the murderers' praise themselves for unjustly taking another's life, he grew unable to sit inside his little cart any longer.
He quietly opened the door and made his way to the corner of the alleyway. He looked around the corner just enough to see but not be seen, and saw that the figures were holding somepony in their murderous hands. He could tell that it was another victim, and he knew he had to stop them before they took another life.
Rushing back to his cart, he grabbed one of his fireworks. It was a small one, but he knew he would be able to create a large enough flash with it to save the innocent pony. He also grabbed a pair of sunglasses he got a while back. Returning to the alley, he saw that they had dropped the pony. He hesitated a little, thinking maybe the pony was going to be let go and his interruption could cause something worse. But then he saw one figure's horn glow and shoot something at the pony and they started walking further into the alley.
Putting on the glasses, Dark Flare lit the fuse and tossed the firework into the alley yelling "Let him go!" The group turned around just in time for a small flash of white light to illuminate the alley and Flare could hear the criminals cry out. Rushing forward, Flare managed to get into the middle of the group and grab the victim and pull him up to his feet. The one thing Dark Flare did not notice before stopped him in his tracks. The pony he had just saved was a pegasus.

Dusk Wing had essentially lost all hope for a quick way out of his predicament. He decided it would be beneficial for him to just play along. Or if not beneficial, then at least give him more time to assess the situation. Thinking that an opportunity might show it’s face later.
It took him by surprise when that opportunity appeared right then in the form of another pony. From what he saw the new arrival was a unicorn that threw something into the ally. He looked down to see what the unicorn threw, and saw it was some sort of explosive. Upon realizing this he closed his eyes before it exploded, but the blast was strong enough to knock him down, and the impact from the fall caused the guard's helmet to fall off. He was filled with relief when his rescuer helped him up.
His captors were still dazed from the blast. Dusk took advantage of that fact with a smirk. He quickly snatched his fedora back from the confused hippocampi. He flipped it onto his head, comforted by the familiar weight, and attempted to concoct a plan to escape.
Idea after idea flitted through his head, all of them starting the same way. Dusk turned around, his smirk becoming a grin, and ran out of the ally. As he passed his horned rescuer, he said “Follow me you idiot. I have a plan.”

” Get them you dweebs!” The griffon called as the two ponies fled from their grasp. This transgression would not pass, no pony, none, mess with the Slaughter Housers. They’d make sure these two ponies would pay. As the four collected themselves, watching as their captive and his rescuer fled out of the alley, the griffon – who appeared most in charge, roused his cohorts to action. ”Uh… after them?” He scolded; pointing towards where they had ran.
The two ponies scrambled onto their hooves and began chase, the unicorn sending a few zaps of magic towards the other two ponies’ direction. The griffon shot up into the air and darted off, whistling in the quiet night to rouse other members of the gang into action. While the hippocampi stumbled as he tried to follow after his two pony associates, being the clumsy creature he is, staggered forward trying to keep up.

Dark Flare heard the Pegasus call him an idiot, breaking him out of his stupor, and ran after him.
"Great way to compliment your rescuer, and you're welcome," he called.
As Flare ran towards the opening of the alley, he heard the griffon yell at the rest of the group and he looked back as the Unicorn started shooting at them. He picked up a trash can with his magic and blocked the bolts. Throwing the can at them, he started picking up other objects and throwing them as well. One of the items was a trash bag and he set it on fire before throwing it.
He watched as one of the members spread what looked like wings and he threw a trash can at him, but he missed as the figure took flight. The Griffon, Flare could tell by the size of the figure, did not launch after them, however, and Flare only heard him whistle. He was confused, but figured he shouldn't worry about it.
They came out of the alley as Flare caught up to the Pegasus. "Alright, Pegasus, you owe me for this, but first we need to go explain the situation to the guards. That blast ought to have attracted the whole lot of them."

Dusk Wing continued to run as he heard his rescuer attempt to slow the progress of their pursuers. He heard when the griffon started to whistle above them. Development after development occurred behind him, yet he didn't look back. Instead he was looking for a place to enact his plan.
It didn't take his unicorn companion to long to catch up to him. What the unicorn said when he did didn't help the situation. The aggressive tone in his voice only managed to irritate Dusk.
"Yes. We'll go to the guards and explain to them why I was out after curfew. That will go over so well." He responded with no small amount of sarcasm. "No. I have a plan to get them off our tails. But for this to work I need you to trust me."
Dusk Wing turned right, leading the unicorn into another ally. Still on the look out for someplace to enact his plan. Yet the whistling of the griffon was a constant reminder that while he was still there the plan wouldn't work.
"Do you think you can hit the griffon?" He asked with a little bit of desperation in his voice.

The griffon had made quite a stir in the back alleys of Manehatten as other members of the gang began to stir from wherever they were hiding. All around the two fleeing ponies, strange shadows stirred. In the alleys, on the rooftops, and side-streets, figures were surrounding them. Windows, shutters, and blinds in the apartment buildings lining the street were quickly shut by wary and scared ponies. They knew something was coming and wished nothing to do with it.
As the shadows followed, inching closer towards Dusk Wing and Dark Flare, another shadow streaked overhead, coming to a sudden stop in their path. The griffon from before, now donning some crude street armor and welding two rusty hooks strapped to his talons, hovered in the air before them. "A, droogs, don't tell me you don't like our fun? Now, it's ruined and I don't like it when somepony ruins my fun... I tend to turn to the ol' ultra-violence when that happens." Said the griffon, scraping the rusty hooks together in quick, spark inducing, successive sweeps. "Ain't that right my malchicks!"
Laughter, fits of giggling, and hoots like that of mad-ponies erupted all around them, from the streets to the rooftops. Flashes of magic sparked to life as unicorns teased the night with their magic. Each flash revealed other ponies, and a few griffons in their midst, all bearing malicious intentions across their dirty and scarred faces.
"What do you skazat, malchicks!? Give 'em a dratsing chance, or just oobivat them and be done with it?" The griffon asked of his gang, which was met in reply by more banshee-like hollers and hoots. The griffon let out a low chuckle, looking down to the two ponies, "Guess that's their answer." Blast of magic suddenly rained down at Dusk and Dark, scattered and unfocused, accompanied with the occasional knife or crossbow bolt. They were playing with them, taunting them. The griffon laughed as he watched the ponies dance.

Dark Flare tried dodging the projectiles and magic attacks, getting scrapped and skinned all the while. The volley ended and he looked at all the shadows surrounding him and the Pegasus. Laughter filled the streets and alleys, low and threatening. Dread filled him as he realized just how bad off they were and thought they were done for.
There was a flicker of light in the corner of his eye, and he saw a window adorned with a heavy curtain. Standing up he noticed there were a couple of trash cans nearby. He picked one up and lit the contents on fire before throwing it down the alley, then he quickly repeated this towards the other end.
He turned and jumped through the window, glass shattering around him and cutting him before the heavy curtain wrapping itself around him. He thrashed about, struggling to take it off and getting cut more, when it was thrown off him by the Pegasus. He got up and took a moment to let his eyes adjust to the sudden brightness of the room. When his vision cleared, there were two figures staring up at him with fear in their eyes. One was a Unicorn mare and the other was a filly, also Unicorn.
He looked at himself, covered in cuts that oozed small amounts of blood, and couldn’t blame them for being frightened. Someone tried coming in through the window and Flare cast a small ball of fire in their direction, sending them sprawling back out on top of some of the other thieves.
Looking back at the frightened ponies, Flare threw the curtain on the two Unicorns. “And stay down!” he yelled and ran to the door, turning off the light before rushing down the hall, the Pegasus following suit.
The hall ended at a flight of stairs and they went up it to another hallway that led to another flight. Flare and the Pegasus got to the third floor and half-way to the fourth when they heard hoofsteps and claws on the upper floor. Flare turned into the closest room and the Pegasus closed the door behind them.
Entering into the living room, Flare saw that one window led out onto the fire escape. Opening it with his magic he moved to the metal stairs while trying to be as quiet as possible. The Pegasus came through as Flare started climbing and closed the window.
“What should we do now?”

Dusk Wing flew out of the window as his companion climbed the fire escape. Upon hearing his rescuer’s question Dusk looked at him with a worried expression. What could they do to get away from what was essentially a small army of thugs? That was when inspiration struck. From this idea a plan was formulated. Still looking at his companion, a grin broke out on his face, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“Tell me, Black. What does one need to take on an army?” Dusk asks cryptically.
The black unicorn flashed a confused look his way. In response Dusk’s smile became a confident smirk. “The answer is simple: superior fire power. Now follow me, and try to keep them at a distance.” He comments nonchalantly as they reach the roof.
He then flies off in a Northward direction. He looks back to see the unicorn and thugs are following him from roof top to roof top. The unicorns continued to shoot at them, and the pegasi and griffons flying after them. Turning back to see where he's going Dusk tips his fedora down as he begins to hum to himself again. This time, however, it was with a clear tune.

Window or not, the gang was nipping at the duo's fetlocks as they attempted to flee, laughing and hollering the whole while. It was a game to them, a sick and twisted game of tag where life or death became the final judgement. Winner or looser, either way, their pursuers were there for the thrill of the hunt... and they were getting closer.
As the two ponies shot through the apartments, gang members would seemingly pop out of nowhere, trying to grab them. Hooves and talons striking out like snakes, begging for a bite. Even as they ran through the residence, the gang was hot on their tails, just beyond the threshold. A thin plank of wood was the only thing between them and their certain demise. Just barely able to make it out the window, their pursuers was cut short by their escape, but not for long.
On the roof, Dark Flare quickly found himself in the presence of a dozen more ponies - and one awkward hippocampi. Dusk Wing, though seemingly with betterluck, had failed to realized the large griffon that had caught up with him. With a hard shoulder check, the griffon plowed into the Pegasus, knocking him off balance, and in the momentary tumble to the ground below, snatched him up in and held him close. "Hello again, droog. I hope you've found mercy with like your sun bog, because you will find none with like me." Sharp talons started to sadistically sink into Dusk Wing's neck.
From below, there came a new clamor as another element appeared. Bolts from automatic crossbows flew true, striking several ponies and griffons down. Around Dark Shine, gang-members fell while others fled as well armored and armed ponies advanced.
"Rainlock!" The hippocampi yelled, before taking several bolts to the back and falling dead-stop in his fleeing.
Dusk Wing felt the grip from his griffon captor go slack. "Oh... sod! The griffon let the pony go as he turned to flee, bolts giving chase as he fled into the night after him.
Back on the rooftops, the ponies' saviors were busy mopping up the stragglers, knocking the gang down one by one while otherwise ignoring the two in the confusion of the fight. They had a moment, now, before Rainlock's security forces turned their focus to the two curfew breakers.

Dusk Wing fell to the ground coughing in an attempt to regain his breath after the griffon dropped him. Panting, he managed to get back on his hooves. Looking around at what was going on, he assessed the situation. He noticed that neither Rainlock’s forces nor the thugs were paying him or his companion any mind.
“About time they showed up. Any longer and we would have been killed.” he muttered to himself. “But still, they’re here taking care of these thugs. And so…”
Dusk looks to his companion who is standing a couple feet away staring intently at the scuffle. He snuck over to him and taped him on the shoulder. The unicorn tensed until he saw who it was.
“Let’s get out of here before we get arrested as well. Now stay quiet and just trust me.” he said as he began to fly, grabbing the unicorn as he did.
Dusk set his companion on the ground in an alley not too far from where they just were. After landing he sank into the shadows and pulled the unicorn with him.
“Well Black, it seems like we need to get you home, though, it will probably be a good idea to wait until tomorrow. Instead we shall head to my place. But we have to keep on the lookout for Rainlock’s guards and any more thugs that might be out there. Now follow me and stay hidden.” with that he turned and moved deeper into the alley making sure to keep a close eye on their surroundings.

Flare was annoyed by taking orders from a pegasus, but he held his tongue since he knew he had no choice. The pegasus seemed to know where he was going at least, but he never let his guard down. He followed the pegasus with as light a foot as he could, though he never was very good at being slow.
He did try to keep a lookout behind them. He was cautious and he stopped when the pegasus told him, and he never made much of a sound. There was one time when a guard passed right in front of them, and both of them were lucky their coats were darkly colored.
Other than that, not much happened and the sounds of fighting quickly faded as they journey further to the outskirts of the city. Now that they were out of immediate danger, Flare started to worry about his cart. Not only was his small knife collection in there, his money, fire works and journal were still in there. He knew it was only a matter of time before the guards searched it, and any of those thugs could steal whatever they wanted.
He could easily make money and fireworks, and the money wasn't much to begin with. His journal, however, held his ideas, his stories, records of his daily activities. It was pretty much his life and it was in the middle of all that ruckus.
Lost in his worry, he did not notice when the pegasus stopped and Flare bumped into him. "Why did we stop?" Flare asked, fully alert now.
