"You're funny!" the young filly giggled as Woodsinger mimicked the dogs with his hooves. "My name's Limey, and yes, I am pretty," she smiled, flipping her mane in such a manner. "Thank you for noticing."
Esmerie smiled to herself as she watched Woodsinger and Limey bonding together. He wasn't good with foals, he says? On the contrary, she thought he was excellent. Limey sure seemed to love him.
"Are you gonna stay here forever, Woodsinger?" Limey asked him.

"Hopefully we'll find a time to get you and all your little buddies on a vacation! Maybe in Manehattan, yeah, ever been there? Lots of fancy ponies and pretty mares there. Maybe they'll even make you into a movie star!" He said, pointing at her with a hoof, "Best thing yet, there's no Diamond Dogs there! Lots of big strong ponies to keep them out! Also there's Lady Rainlock, you know Lady Rainlock Limey? She's one of the most amazing ponies in Equestria... she's rich and beautiful and strong and very, very smart!" He described, "She's been all over the world too, and has a lot of stories!"
He wondered for a moment, "Isn't that right Esmerie? Wouldn't you want to take all of your foals over to see Lady Rainlock's HUGE mansion? She's got a zoo with animals from all over the world! A library with a thousand books! A room with mirrors that never end and a huge dance hall just for big parties!"

Limey's eyes widened with excitement after hearing everything that Woodsinger told her about Manehattan, especially about Lady Rainlock and her giant mansion. She'd never heard of her before, but whoever she was, she had to be amazing! "I wanna go!" she almost shouted, then faced Esmerie. "Can we go to Manehattan Esmerie? Pretty please? I promise I'll be good."
"I don't see why not," Esmerie responded, smiling down at Limey. "I know Manehattan is the perfect place for you."

"Good, then as soon as we can we'll leave, but only if you'll all be good and listen to everything Esmerie and I tell you!" Woodsinger said, stroking the little filly on the head gently. He grinned up at Esmerie as though asking if he's doing a good job. "We'll go to Manehattan if we can, or Hoofington too... I heard there's wizards there now who can do all sorts of things." He described to the filly, yawning, "But you know what I really want right now Limey? I really want to just lie down on a bed and sleep. It's past my bed time, after all."

"Are you sleepy, Woodsinger?" little Limey asked her new friend. "I have another blanket on my bed that you can use." She quietly ran up the stairs where the other foals were sleeping and pulled the largest blanket off her bed, then ran back down with the blanket dragging behind her, and draped it over Woodsinger's body. "Are you gonna tell Woodsinger a story Esmerie?" Limey asked her caretaker. "You tell the best stories in the world!"
"Oh! Well..." Esmerie gasped, her face beginning to turn pink. "I-I don't know if he'd want to hear one from me..."

"Sure, I'd love to hear one. Limey, wanna sit in my lap so we can listen to Esmerie's story?" Woodsinger asked, scooting back on his chair to allow room for limey to sit. He looked at Esmerie expectantly, waiting for her to dazzle him with her storytelling.

"Tell the one about the giant cat!" Limey suggested excitedly as she made herself comfy beside Woodsinger. "That one's my favorite."
Esmerie chuckled at the little filly and began her story. "Long ago, there was a giant cat named Monny. He was so big that giants found it difficult to lift him up without effort, and his claws were so long that he could cut down mighty trees with just one swipe! But not everypony liked Monny. Many tried to hunt him down because he was such a big kitty and were afraid that he would hunt them down and eat them all. But if they had taken time to get to know Monny instead of hating him, they'd find out that despite his size, he had a heart of gold and wouldn't hurt a fly. But one dark night as a party of ponies was ready to hunt down and slay Monny, a big fireball came hurdling towards Equestria and all the ponies began to panic. However, at that moment, Monny felt a big hairball coming on his throat, and despite all his efforts, he couldn't hold it in, so he hacked it out and it soared across the sky, which believe it or not, hit the fireball, which caused it to simmer and sent sparks all across the sky. All the ponies were so amazed at what Monny had done. Not only did he save their lives, but he's now made the night sparkle with light, even on a new moon. The ponies then praised Monny as their hero, and they didn't hate him anymore, but they loved him instead. And that's why we have stars in the sky."

Woodsinger clapped his hooves gingerly, "That was great Esmerie," He said, yawning. "But I really think Limey should get to sleep, I need to get to sleep too, I'm so tired... just want to sleep." He lifted the little filly down off the table and got up.
"Where could I crash, Esmerie? Sorry for the abruptness..." He yawned again, "But it's just sinking in how tired I really am and I'm afraid I might fall asleep standing if I don't get to a bed soon." He gave her an apologetic smile.

Esmerie shook her head. "Oh no, that's quite all right. I understand." She caught Limey's eyes drooping and gently picked her up, placing her on her back.
"You can crash at the guest room if you like. It's just this way." She led Woodsinger to the guest room close by the kitchen and prepared the bed for him. "There you are. Feel free to make yourself at home."

"Ah good, thanks..." He said, walking a few steps before crashing unto the bed and snoring, fast asleep. Boy he sure had quite the day. He could barely hold on to consciousness any longer. His dreams were haunted by the image of that dog sleeping in the bed next to that fresh pony body. He killed it, ate it and went to sleep next to it as if nothing happened. How could such a thing happen? He also dreamt of waking up and realizing the whole war is a bad dream, how big was his disappointment when he woke up to the same reality again...
The guest room was still dark, it must have still been night. He didn't hear any Diamond Dogs out, but he decided to check on the foals just in case. Problem was, he had no idea where the foals slept. He looked around for Esmerie's room, see if she was asleep.

Once Esmerie saw that Woodsinger was fast asleep, she walked quietly up the stairs to the west side of the orphanage where the fillies were sleeping and placed sleepy Limey onto her bed, tucking her in and gently kissed her cheek. She checked on the other fillies and they all seemed fine, sound asleep as they should be.
Esmerie then walked to the east side to check on the colts. They were all asleep in their beds as well, safe and sound. She then walked to her room up in the attic and laid in bed. Hopefully she'll be able to sleep better tonight, especially since now she wasn't the only caretaker and protector of the orphans. Woodsinger looked strong, not to mention quite handsome, to protect the foals and fight off the vicious diamond dogs, until they move to a new location at least.

Woodsinger was going through the house, it was late, but he just wanted reassurance that everything was alright. After all he hadn't had company for a while, he didn't like things getting quiet again. He managed to find Esmerie's bedroom, she was asleep. He was satisfied, if Esmerie was asleep, it meant the foals were safe. Maybe he should go back to sleep too. He got back to his room and under the covers, humming a song to himself quietly until he fell asleep.

Esmerie woke up once she felt the sunshine of the early morning warm her muzzle. That was the best sleep she had in so long, and it felt really great. But wait, were the foals okay? Esmerie jumped out of bed and rushed to both rooms to check on them. They were all still asleep; no one was missing, and surely no one was eaten. However, it was time to fix them all breakfast, and there wasn't much food left in the fridge. She needed to go to the market and buy more. She wrote a note and left it by the guest room to tell Woodsinger where she was going and went on her way.

Woodsinger woke up late in the morning, finding himself surrounded by hyper foals and not quite sure what to do with them. He located the note Esmerie left for him. There wasn't much of a market left now, most vendors just tried their best to stay out of sight and no new merchandise was getting into the city, which greatly limited the selection.
Nevertheless, Woodsinger had to keep the foals entertained until Esmerie returned, he decided to play them a piece from his wooden ocarina, he gathered them all in the living room and began to play. It was a soothing song, not a perky one, hopefully it would keep the foals listening until Esmerie came back. She had left much earlier, so it can't be too much longer, he thought.

There wasn't much at the market, but Esmerie found everything she thought was good and nutritious for her foals to eat and went on her merry way back, careful of course to watch out for dogs. However, little did she know that a diamond dog saw her and started following her from behind. He was about to pounce at her when soothing woodwind music was heard close by, putting him in a trance for a moment. Esmerie heard the music and followed it all the way home.
"That's so beautiful!" she exclaimed as she walked through the door. "Where is it coming from?"
