“Oh, reason?” Shoal sounded back as he was attempting his futile reorganization. It was perhaps silly, the trip was less than a day, be at the mainland by the early morning but his excessive drive for organization forced him to least stack things accordingly. No amount of reasoning by pony or griffon would change that – he was a quirky bird, though perhaps to ponies all Griffons were a little odd. The fusion of two types of personalities in one body made for rather eccentric and often downright peculiar behavior. “King’s order. All diplomatic missions have been halted until the matter at home has been dealt with. Safety reasons – or so they tell me. My contingent of guard was called back earlier to reinforce the losses at the capitol. Suppose the court sees me as ‘expendable’. Minor diplomat, minor importance.” He nervously laughed.
Shoal turned back excited when Shade confirmed his resolve to accompany him to Royal Rocks. “Oh wonderful! I’ll go make arrangements immediately! You need to grab anything, ship is to depart soon. Oh, this is so exciting! I can show you the city – the architecture is second to none… if it’s not too damaged. Still, exciting. You’ll have to tell me everything about you, specially your magic abilities. We must make the right impression for the King and his advisers.” He bit his talon, “Oh, um, have to tell you about Loci… if he tries to eat you, just ignore him. He’s a little… off. We think he fell out of the nest or something as chick, turned him a ‘whoopsie’. Or he’s brilliant, either or both. Just stay here, I’ll be right back!” He ushered the pony to stay put, sliding past him and out into the hall. “I’ll notify the captain.” As he rushed down the hall towards the stairs to the main deck, a tower of his bags begun to lean and promptly collapsed in front of Shade and spilled out its contents. Had he been another hoof step closer, he’d of been crushed.

Shade flinched a little, stepping backwards, the force of the falling luggage breezing his hat back a little, tilted upward on his head. He blinked, and cleared his throat, "Right then.", he fixed his hat, tilting it over his eyes a little more. When the door closed he was left to himself.
Well this leg of his journey was unexpected. So much so he almsot forgot he practically had everything that belonged to him in his saddlebag, or on his form already. His hat, his light brown cloak which hung out his saddlebag, two magic books, a few bits, a candlestick, and of course... an apple or two for when he got hungry.
His final concern was a simple one; He'd be meeting the King Whitefeather in person. Not that he idled such a figure, but it was STILL royalty... he'd have to be on his best behavior. Which in general context was outwordly respectable enough. He didnt want to give a bad impression.
Shade decided it was probably best to stay in one place in case Shoel did come back, he didn't want to seem like he up and left, even if he may only have visited a different portion of the ship itself.
"Egh... well...", he lit up his horn, and levitated his small spellbook from his back... one he'd been through so many times, and understood most of it by now. A solid sixty pages, it was more like a journal of tips, and tricks if you asked him...

Shoal didn't return for several minutes, only trace of his presence was perhaps the scrapes on the deck above the cabin, mixed with the drum of hoof-steps was the scratch and pad which sounded like the footfall of a griffon waltzing between the hooves of the ponies. A moment later, the nearby stairs creaked as someone descended to the deck.
"Hey!" Shoal popped his head in to the cabin, then slowly entered. "Everything is settled, you're bunking with me, roomie!" He was positively joyful at the prospect. "One night on the ship, then we're one airship away from Royal Rocks. We should be there in time for dinner tomorrow night! I know this great herbivore restaurant, they have these lettuce wraps that are just amazing." Unlike other griffons, Shoal had learned to enjoy a nearly non-meat diet to better integrate with the Hippocampi and earn their trust. This didn't stop him from enjoying seafood on occasion when they weren't looking but he could proudly say he had not eaten a scrap of red or white meat in several years. The other griffons however, always looked upon him with an air of suspicion and concern, it just seemed so unnatural and strange to them. An affront against the natural order.
"You get your stuff?" He inquired, peeking past him, thinking he would see the pony's bag or something. Then back to Shade, glancing at the book. "What you reading?"

Shade's smile was an uneasy, overwhelmed one. Not that he did not mind the generosity of Shoel, it's just he'd never actually been offered a paid expense dinner before.
A few moments later, he cleared his throat, looking around him as though he too expected to see bags. But of course... there were none. With a fond little laugh, he flicked his mane aside, and adjusted his hat, "Nowhere to be seen. I generally travel light.", he showed his only saddlebag, with the hippocampi book poking out from under the cover flap. Even then, his storages were not very expansive... they seemed stuffed as is.
"I would not mind spending the night in here I suppose.", Shade inquired, shuffling his hooves to get them comfortable with the floor, "I've never been on an airship before either..."
He heard his own belly rumble, "Fer starters I think... when exactly is dinner on this ship?", he looked over to the ambassador with a cocked brow expression. He didn't want to seem rude, but indeed... he hadn't had much to eat this morning, or last night.

"Light traveler?" Shoal curiously asked, he appeared to be flabbergasted by the notion. "You're weird. Oh well, OK. Make the transition to the airship a breeze! More then I can say for myself..." He frowned, glancing to his tower of bags and chests. Perhaps the pony was on to something, certainly would make these sudden relocation so much easier.
Shoal shuffled in, pushing one steamer trunk against another and fluttering up atop them, reclining against a stack of bags. He crossed his legs, his tail hanging off the side and wings nestled neatly against his back "Great!" He responded, "It'll be like a sleep over. Never had sleep over before... This will be fun!" He cocked an eye towards Shade, "And really, never on an airship? Better get use to it, that's the main mode of transportation in the Griffon kingdom - well aside from wing power."
He closed his eyes, took a deep relaxing breath as he reclined back with his talon's behind his head. "Dunno what's for dinner, but I saw Crusty in the galley making something. It was actually quite horrifying, what with him flaking into the pots. Might of been a beet goulash, saw a lot of beets."

The colt looked aside, and shifted a little, chuckling, "First sleepover as well.", and nodded. He'd never considered having one before, as they didn't seem like something he'd ever get around to doing. But apparently he never would have predicted one on a sailing ship.
Shade looked left, and right all over the room, "Do you normally carry these many things with you wherever ya go?", he didn't mean to sound intrusive of the subject, but it made him curious enough.
"I cannot wait.", he added, regarding skyward travel, he cleared his throat, and his hat levitated off him, setting on a nearby table, along with his saddlebags. From across the room, he slowly tugged about two bits of cloth from an unlocked trunk, "Ya dont mind do ya?", he asked, hoping Shoel would not mind. He laid them across the ground.
He had no quarrel with the food for thought... he'd lived on a farm once upon a time, couldn't be any worse, could it?

Shoal shook his head no as he closed his eyes to catch a moment of rest before the dinner bell would ring or the ship would depart, which ever came first. "Nope, I just packed up everything this time. Don't know how long I'm going to be away. Never know what you're going to need."
Shoal curiously peeked open his eye to see what Shade had be roused to do, "Nope be my guest roomie."
It wasn't long after that the lines were struck, the vessel creaked and swayed as she was freed from her moorings and pulled from the dock into the bay. The sails were cast and in short order, they were off for the mainland.
((Admin: Run out of things to do at this point, move to arriving at the mainland/airship or at Royal Rocks itself?))

(While I would enjoy putting Shade onto an airship, I guess it would be much better if we continued upon arriving at Royal Rocks)(should you make e post or should I.) ---
Shade blinked softly. He always felt uneasy when a steady ship released off into the free water. The rocking sensation afflicted him only minor, but it was noticeable to Shoel if he laid real close attention. Even if it was the middle of the day, the Stallion dice not have much else to do until the dinner bell rang.
Not really minding the idea of beet stew, save for the prospect one pony in particular was rather messy doing so. He'd have to get reacquainted with this kind of thing. But until that time... He'd rest his eyes, and probably take a nap.
He looked forward to the Royal Rocks...
