Kuruka listened to the earth pony in the tree. The mare seemed rather passionate about this, something Kuruka would usually ignore except for the ringing sound of sincerity. And when Quillson spoke, she looked at him once more, surprised. The stallion before her no longer seemed like a foalish intellectual, ignoring his own safety for the sake of knowledge, but a warrior, and a wise one at that. Kuruka decided to remain silent. She had already made her decision. Should the pegasus mare attack, she would defend until her last breath. It was the way of the Zebra, one of the few practices she whole-heartedly supported. And Kuruka knew, without any sense of false pride, that it would take much to suck that last breath from her. Especially when this fight involved a friend.

They weren't going to stay uninterrupted for very long, Willo could already tell. She sighed distantly, her mind focusing on the ritual still, but she'd already figured out her contingency plan. It was time to take some of her shadow puppets and have them start wandering away.
It was a fairly simple spell; she just had to give it a direction and the shadows & lanterns would start to move in that direction, with them going faster based on how much magic she poured into it. What was tricky about it was that if she wanted the illusion to be believable she had to change the shadows as well so that it looked like the pony was walking or running. She had around six decoys scattered around outside the area, and she had to cast the spell individually for each one.
She prepped and cast the first spell and one of the ones closer to the site started off at a brisk trot towards a cave that she'd noticed a while back, still focusing most of her attention on the ritual. The advantage of these shadow puppets, like her lanterns, was that they didn't need her attention to do anything; being made only of light it wasn't convincing from up close but from far away she thought they looked enough like ponies.
"Hooves crossed..." Willo murmured to no one in particular, her horn glowing brighter.

They responded with nothing. Had she managed to persuade the two ponies well enough for them to join her cause? Could they somehow see through her arguments so far as to detect the true selfishness of her intent? For that moment at least, Ruby could not be sure. She began to grow a little tense, hoping with all her heart for the situation to simply go her way.
That had been until she began to hear the words of the stallion, at least. Whether or not he had been completely sold, Ruby could feel an absolute certainty the white stallion had at least been more suspicious of the green, mismatched pegasus than of her. His zebra-striped pegasus companion seemed to remain silent, but just examining the mare’s brave and doubtless expression, Ruby could be sure she had another ally on her side. Absolutely thrilled and hyped up by her longing for adventure, Ruby jumped from off of the tree and onto the ground below with an athletic grace.
“Ha! You hear that, pegasus? Nopony’s buying into your lies anymore!” Ruby shouted off in the direction of the mismatched mare. Trotting over toward the two other ponies, she quickly sheathed her dagger and chain as she began to approach them. “My name is Ruby, Ruby Nights. I had just been camping in the area when suddenly I had been drawn here by the light. How about you two?”

This little idea was going from bad to worse at a breakneck speed. Ponies were dropping from trees now and they were all shouting at each other, some of them appeared to be ready to fight. what was going on here? Who were those ponies on the other side of the mount? Indecision teared at Searing on one hoof he wasnt sure the ponies on the iceberg needed or wanted help, on the other the brown mare, Zebra and the white colt seemed almost eager to start up trouble.
Searing stopped a few feet away from the bickering ponies and said: ``Did any of you see that giant light thing? Was it made by one of you?´´
Searing kept his spell ready in case these ponies were up to no good.

((OOC Skipping Angel Grace. I've waited as long as I could. This Rp is now on a 3 day basis, as in, whether you guys post or not, turns will take place once every 3 days.)
IC:
Wildfire sighed and looked the white pony in the eye. "Theres nothing I can tell you really. All I was told was I am to keep ponies away from the light, and I don't want to have to deal with any trouble tonight. I can see already YOU are going to be trouble," she stated as she turned to the pony 'Ruby' as she so ignorantly declared herself, that was approaching. Seriously, who introduces themselves in a situation like this? It wasn't a sunday social, it was something potentially dangerous. "But as for you and your...zebra friend here, you seem to be good ponies. Just stay on this side of the moat and don't bother anypony and stay in my sight. I'll make sure nopony bothers you. She kept her self standing tall, giving the group a stern, yet nonhostile look. She was sure most of these ponies were an agreeable sort, and hoped that her piece would be considered. She didn't want to have to shout for backup, but she would.
(ooc: 7 turns remaining, next turn in 3 days) (OOC: ALSO, Wild isnt across the moat sillies. :/)

Quillson cringed a bit at Ruby's sudden outburst. Why was she being so hostile to the green pegasus in front of them? They had no evidence that anything WAS being done with sinister intent here, and even if that were the case this mismatched pony didn't seem to be a part of what was going on. He quickly glanced over at Kuruka, hoping she would have some sort of reaction to what was going on. At first glance however, it seemed she was fine with the stallion addressing the pegasus. Before that matter, there was that of this Ruby character.
"Normally I'd be up for more of a proper introcution, but I believe the situation calls for something less formal. You can call me Quillson though, Ruby Nights. And if you wouldn't mind, let's try and keep things a little less verbally hostile. I have just as much reason to trust you as anypony else here, all right?"
With that out of the way, Quillson set his attention back to the Pegasus, when suddenly another voice came from behind. He glanced back at the newcomer hearing his question. "Yes, we most certainly saw it. And no, none of us here made it. That's what I'm trying to get at right now." Quickly finishing his sentence, Quill turned back to the green mare. He thought for a moment while he worked up eye contact with her.
"I do not mean to be rude, or to sound antagonistic against your actions, but just what is it that they're not telling you?" He waited a moment, hoping that line would be able to sink in effectively. "I understand you can't tell us anything else, because you're unsure of the details yourself. But why wouldn't 'they' tell you? If you're on their side, and out here keeping somepony like myself from getting in, shouldn't you know what they're up to? And what could they possibly be doing that they're hiding it from you?"
Almost inadvertently he had been stepping over to the filly while he spoke, ending up only about a foot away from her. He hoped his questions would get this other pony to think a bit on their now shared situation. IF something bad was happening, he doubted she was aware of it. Maybe he could convince her to investigate a bit herself, and maybe even let the others help with whatever arises from that. He kept his eye contact, as well as a face of neutral patience while he waited for her response.
As he did he began to think about her appearance. Not that there was anything wrong with her added parts and prosthetic, but he just wondered what she must have gone through to get have such things added. The green pegasus began to intrigue him, though he wasn't sure why. Something about her reminded him of... who knew. Something. Something he'd read? But where. It had to have been recent. Maybe from his stop in Ponyville, surely that was it. He hadn't grabbed any books, just conducted interviews and researched the recent news. That's it! The news. A glimmer of shock in recognition splashed across his face.
"Wait..." he started, potentially interrupting the pegasus before him. He recomposed himself as he continued. "You're..." He looked around at the others quickly, figuring it best to keep the following conversation under wraps. Leaning in close to the Mare's ear, he stated one more word before pulling back. "Wildfire?" He stared into her eyes, hoping to find some sort of reaction. Killed in Everfree, that's what the news had said. But if this was her, then something was going on for sure.

Cloudy still didn't know what to do. With little communication of the outside and just waiting for other to break in, she had no idea where to put illusions. Willow didn't seem to offer any help, so she stopped looking at her. Maybe she was mad at Cloudy. Maybe she was just as confused.
The unicorn was right out lost at what to do. The only thing left to do was protect the mages. Taking a deep breath and focusing more than before, she began another illusion. Since they were in one place and not moving, it should be easy to put each into a safer area. "Willow, I need your help. I'm going to make an illusion to protect the mages with a rocky wall and I need you to put a bunch of blinding lanturns all inside the wall. They won't be able to be seen by the outside, but if anypony tries to go through any of the wall I want it to blind them enough that they won't be able to navagate through it, or want to. Sound good?"
Without waiting for an answer she did an illusion. All around the mages a stone wall appeared, blocking the area off. It was half a foot thick, big enough for the lanturns to go in. Another illusion was placed just above the mages, one that looked like grass from above. It would make any pegasus who flew over think that the ground was clear of anypony and everypony, until they actually landed on the real ground.
"Ok, mages you've been just placed in an illusion that should help protect you, don't panic. I ask everypony else to stay on the outside of the stone wall for your safety. Do not enter the illusion," Cloudy annouced to the few ponies on the inside of the ice wall. "Willow, how are those lanturns coming?" she asked the teal pony.

Willo had been distracted with her own plans when the other pony had begun talking to her, and she had managed to get another couple pony shades moving before she'd noticed Cloudy. "Huh?" she said, confused for a few moments before realizing what the other pony was talking about. "Oh. I can do that," she said.
It hadn't occurred to her to talk to the other ponies she was working with, for the most part; she didn't really know them all that well, even if she had met some of them in the past. She always had been rather solitary... She had assumed that was why she hadn't done too well last time, even though she tried to do what the other ponies wanted her to.
When the pony had the wall in place, Willo idly cast the lanterns inside of it. That particular spell had become very easy for her, and she had been able to cover the entire area with not very many actual lanterns. With that done she went back to the task at hand, her focus on anything going on around her.
She heard Cloudy ask about the lanterns and cocked her head in the other unicorn's direction. "See for yourself," she said idly. "They're already in place... I tried not to make your wall glow, though."
She still wasn't sure that any of this was going to last, of course; they couldn't possibly keep it up. She started going over the very little she knew about combat with the portion of her brain that she kept for thinking... and didn't find too much. She would be at best a distraction.

Nexus heard "Windy" say something, and as she tried to arc around him, she could see his head tracking her progress.
Celestia-Dang it! Why can't there be any shrubbery or anything to help me sneak in!
Okay... I guess I'll just have to storm my way in, hard and fast. How do I do that without hurting anypony, though? Especially myself?
Taking a few long moments to work out some kind of plan in her mind, Nexus crouched behind a tree, out of sight of Windy's prying eyes. Out of her pack, she pulled two good lengths of rope and her crowbar, and started tying knots into one of the ropes, making it a ladder of sorts.
With the other rope, she fashioned something akin to a lasso, albeit with more of a focus on binding something- or somepony. Stowing them in easy-access pockets on the outside of her pack, Nexus thought through her plan again; satisfied, she got out from behind the tree and trotted towards Windy as friendly as she could.
"Hi, um... I-I'm sorry I kind of c-crept up on you earlier, I was just kind of n-nervous about all this," said the gray mare, making her voice sound as timid as possible. She edged a bit closer to Windy, using her magic to lower her shades a bit. "My name is Neon, and I was wondering... what exactly is going on here?"
All the while Nexus kept up a disarming facade, shuffling her hooves every so often. As much as it bothered her, she relaxed her muscles, so that she'd be vulnerable if she needed to quick-draw the crowbar in case of combat. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, and everything would go according to plan...

Wind Storm had in mind that this ritual was going to go off without a problem. There was no reason to think otherwise. He had just taken care of one intruder, and without even resorting to combat. If other ponies were having similar luck, then this would be done in no time.
Then he saw the same mare come back to him. This one was indeed persistant. It looked to Wind Storm that things were not going to be easy as he thought. He heard her speak, and although he wanted to believe in her timid personality, he knew to still be on guard.
"Oh hello again... um... Neon. That was your name right? My name is..." he paused for a moment. It would be stupid of him to give out his real name. What if this mare went to the Equestria Army and told about him. He's be banished, or locked in a dungeon, or both. Quiclky he made up a name. "Tempest. My name is Tempest. You don't have to be nervous. I'm afraid I can't tell you what is going on, nor can I let you go and see it. I will say that there is nothing happen that will hurt you or any other pony." In reality Wind Storm lied to himself about this point. He didn't really know what the ritual was about as he wasn't told much about it. All he was told was to stay here and not let anypony get to the ritual area. "Now then," Wind Storm said in a pleasant yet stern tone," how about I help you get back to where you were going. Were you heading to Ponyville or Canterlot?" Hopefully this would persuade her to leave. Yet Wind Storm knew to expect the unexpected.

Kuruka sighed, letting her lips vibrate. Make sure nopony bothered them her flank. Something seriously fishy was going on here, and it wasn't in the moat. Quillson seemed surprised that the mare in front them was named Wildfire. Why? She was obviously a warrior, what with her varied scars and stern manner. Perhaps she was someone to be feared? If that was the case, then there was all the more reason to find out what was going on. Kuruka snorted, studying the other pegasus. "Who gives you permission to dictate other ponies' actions without good cause? These ponies should be permitted to wander where they will, unless there is something life-threatening behind that wall... In which case official militia would be here to fend it off. I do not see official soldiers here and since you cannot give me a good reason for hiding whatever it is, I must insist, as Militia Captain of Hoofington, that you permit me and my companions to pass. I must also warn you that I am a formidable enemy, Wildfire. Take care you do not cross that line."

“Trouble…? Verbally hostile? Heh… HAHAHA!” Ruby snickered arrogantly at Quillson, as well as the green pegasus. Ruby Nights was no diplomat. Neither was she a pacifist. Not a single cell within her body felt the need or desire to withhold her identity from the other ponies in this situation. She was a risk-taker at heart and she refused to allow anypony at the scene get in her way.
“Hmph! Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained…” Ruby muttered as she began to trot over toward the zebra-streaked pegasus mare. Would she possibly be willing to join her in her cause at all? The mare’s continued silence only seemed to further obscure the answers lost within that deep fog of ambiguity. Either way though, the large spear the mare held at least proved she was capable of lending to Ruby some much needed muscle. Ruby offered a mischievous grin as she began to near the striped pegasus.
“So… Militia Captain of Hoofington, eh?” Ruby spoke to Kuruka, eyeing the mare’s spear and shield. She immediately drew her own weapon from out of its sheath, though with no traces of hostility. Instead, she simply began in deftly flipping and tossing the dagger around her in place. “I really like your weapon… A spear and shield really seems to suit somepony such as yourself. Somepony who speaks the last word in a conversation… Throws the last punch in a fight… Not a mindless and malicious killer… But rather a passive and honorable warrior such as yourself… I really like that a lot.”
Ruby figured it would be effective to first establish some common ground with the mysterious striped mare. Different weapons, different approaches to combat, lots to talk about. It was a pretty simple concept and one that could go far with the aid of her smooth tongue.
“I would describe myself as more of a… a risk taker…” Ruby continued on. “My dagger may be rather short as well as double-edged, but just one single bite from it is vicious… Always gratifying for a thrill seeker such as myself…”
“So… What do you say we take on Little Miss Mismatched together…? Your spear alongside my dagger?” Ruby whispered finally into the pegasus’ ear.

Post by Selenia on Nov 22, 2011 7:13:52 GMT -5
Selenia was winded, the run from her 'landing spot' was proving to be more taxing than she anticipated, most in part due to the fact that she cut through a few fields of high grass and shrubbery for a more direct route. At the entrance to the forest, she stopped to catch her breath, leaning against a tree. The pulsing column of light was still strong as ever. Still, she looked around, nopony seemed to be heading towards the forest to investigate as well. The beam was large and clear enough to be seen for hundreds of miles, so Selenia just found it a bit odd that she seemed to be the only one willing to see what was going on.
She took her weight off of the tree and trotted at a comfortable pace into the forest. If any complications could be solved with diplomacy, she would try her best to do so, but a thought at the back of her mind just nagged that whoever was doing this wasn't supposed to. To that end, she pulled a scroll and quill out from under her cloak and began scrawling down a fake 'Industrial Magic Permit' so she would at least have something to sell to them that the princess or whomever else had sent her.
Selenia tried to make the larger words at the top neater and more official-sounding, then just scribbled lots of legal jargon in the fine print, figuring that these ponies would either dismiss the form and confirm that they indeed had a permit, or wouldn't take the time to read it and just try to dodge the subject. She kept walking, quietly but not without authority, if anypony was watching she wanted to sell her position as an official so they would believe her when she arrived.
She finished writing the form, rolled it up neatly, and stuffed it in her cloak again, taking a quick look around to see if anypony had been tracking her since her entrance into the forest. Satisfied that that was not the case, she continued her defined trot towards the source of the beam of light.

Oh great first they ignore him and now two of them are going to fight the Mare in hood was threatening the black and white pegasus with his Dagger. Thought Searing as he weighted his options.
He really didnt want get in to a fight, but the situation was highly suspicious and volatile it seemed. Approaching the only non threatening pony he could see Searing trotted towards Quillson.
``Umm Hi there do you by any chance have sligthest clue of whats going on?´´ Searing asked Quillson.

Wildfire stepped away from the stallion, her eyes a blend of terror and sadness. "How....how do you...know my name?" She choked on the rest of her sentence, holding back tears as she tried to keep her composure. Somepony knew she was alive now, and knew where she was. But how? She had never seen this pony before. Her attention was ensnared by the Zebra pegasi, who claimed to be a militia captain from Hoofington. These ponies were starting to get serious. She looked back at the white stallion, still reeling from what he had said. "Why did you have to bring that up now, when I NEED to keep my cool?" She shook her mane and fell into a defensive stance as the other mare pulled out a dagger and began showing off to the Zebra. She was armed to. There was no doubt in her mind that there was going to be a fight, but she could handle this. Or so she hoped as she kept looking to and fro from the various ponies, a worried look in her eye as she tried to figure out just who was going to attack first. "I don't know what they aren't telling me, and I don't care. It's my DUTY to protect these ponies, alright? That's all i'm here for, not their light show, not their spells, just. To. Protect. Now if any of you have a problem with that, feel free to point it out." She rose up slightly, her drake wing gleaming in the moonlight. "But for now, I would REALLY appreciate you all backing off. I don't like fighting ponies, but I will do what I have to do to keep everypony away from here."
