"Yeah, as much as I hate to say it, someone could have beaten us to the punch. Some schmancy museum or collector would probably pay top prices for any old scrap of paper here, and if there were looters, they would've likely taken everything 'cept the furniture." Klepto continued after Selenia.
"But I also know there was this big 'ol gate we saw that didn't look like it had been busted open, probably where all the really good stuff is. Maybe looters did ransack the place, but couldn't get through that gate. So they laid down a few traps to scare ponies off and then went off to get some heavy machinery or whatever that would help them get to the rest of the goodies."
"But I mean, I'm just throwin' out ideas," he added. "Maybe the Equiterians just took all their stuff with them. Or maybe they just had really bad taste in castle decorations. Either way, I would say that gate's worth checking out."

"I had one of those on my end too." Said Horizon, "But it's just leading to the corridor into the hall through here. Must be where all the goods are at." He said, gesturing at the small area before the large doors to the hall.
"I don't know though, this is too through. I mean looters would have really messed up the place, it looks more like someone's hiding something, or rather, someone didn't want anyone to know the documents were taken. Could be a spell by the Equiterians?"
"That might be the case, to have all of the documents and maps self destruct if the base was being invaded, that sounds like Equiterian logic to me." Hind Sight said, "Maybe they just cleaned it up before they left. Either way standing here won't do anything. Let's proceed." He said, moving to the other end of the plaza, where the door to the main hall was. They noticed that like Horizon said, the gates connected to this point.
"Who shall have the honors?" Hind Sight asked.

"If looters set the traps, then they would have come back already with their 'heavy machinery'" Selenia countered to Klepto's thought. "Those traps were set a good long while ago, and looters would probably only put in physical trip wires or some nasty bear traps if hey wanted to scare anypony away, not deadly magic." She groaned and looked down at her burns. "And it'd still be super cool if anyone could patch me up here, just kinda... Throwin' that out there... No? Ok." That matter would have to be remedied later, for now she just let Hind Sight talk.
Selenia listened for a bit but nearly scoffed at Hind Sight's possibility. "What? They made the documents and stuff just destroy themselves? That's nuts and it would take a massive amount of magical power to remove all sensitive items from this place all at once, provided there's still a lot more we haven't seen here." She shook her head lightly at the notion. But this was an ancient civilization, so she just decided to go with the flow. "If that is the case, then there must have been some big secrets here."
Selenia followed behind Hind Sight and Klepto to the main door. Since Hind Sight obviously wasn't going to open it, and Klepto didn't respond, she just sighed. "Now, don't everypony jump up at once, I got this one." She stood off to the side of the door frame so she would be clear of the entrance when it opened. She tentatively grabbed the door handle with her magic, unlatching it and opening it. She let go whenever her horn started to fizzle, careful not to make it slam shut or bust the door off its hinges. It took a few seconds, but the door was open.

"Alright, so maybe it wasn't looters," Klepto said as he stepped through the doorway. "Let's just hope that whoever 'poofed' away all these maps and papers didn't do the same to everything else. I mean, if we went through all this trouble just to find more junk, I'm gonna be ticked."
But then again, why would the Equiterians leave behind all these traps and skeletons if there was nothing here to protect. Surely there had to be something they were guarding. "Oh, by the way," Klepto said, turning back to Hind Sight, "We saw a buncha horse-shaped bloodstains in about every room we went into. You know what's up with that?"
