"Hang on." Horizon said, "Hear that?" He asked, jumping to his hooves immediately, suddenly radiating alertness and readiness. After a moment of silence Graphite Sketch could hear it too a rustling, something was trying to creep up on them.
"Who's there?" Horizon called, it couldn't be a monster, not in the town limits, they never went out that far. He saw a dark shape moving in from Everfree, a pair of eyes glinting at him from the darkness, as it approached more and more eyes popped from the dark. Though Horizon has never seen one of them, he knew what it was. An Observer Leopard, instead of spots it had eyes all over its fur, meant to intimidate the larger monsters and fool the smaller ones into thinking it was a herd of their kind.
"Stay back Graph." Horizon said, these creatures were usually harmless to ponies, but this one was different, it looked twisted, vile, the eyes seemed bloodshot all over its fur. Something happened to this creature and changed it... there was no other explanation.

Graph had been enjoying the companionable silence, but Horizon's sudden unease set her on edge. So far she knew enough about him to take this seriously.
"What is it?"She asked, finally spotting what Horizon saw and taking a few step backwards, keeping sure that Horizon was between her and the beast lurking in the shadows of the forest.
She spoke quietly "Whats that thing doing here?" her voice was little over a whisper, her ears where drawn back. She didn't want to be frightened, that was for weaker ponies but she also knew that fear could be a good thing in situations like this.
Better to run and hide than stay and get your face chewed off by a monster.

"No idea, but something about it looks completely wrong." Horizon quickly sped to the air, catching another lightning trail. The creature however was not intimidated. Even in it's corrupt form, it was quickly done in by Horizon's lightning. It was after all, just an animal.
"Sorry about that." Horizon said, landing warily next to Graph, "I've never seen an animal behave like that, didn't even try to defend itself." He took a few steps towards it, but then changed his mind, "I think I'd better not touch it. I don't know what it had."

Graph winced a little when Horizon ended the creature, taking a few steps back as lightning flared around in the shadows"I wonder what it was doing around here." She asked, sitting as far away from the beast as possible.
"Yeah, you might get some creepy form of eye rabies." she said, pulling a strange 'ew' face at the thought of a ton of eyes appearing on Horizon. The nights events had went from pleasant to strange and Graph was rather surprised that she was ok with it all.

"Well it looks like our night was ruined by... the EYE of a NEEDLE." Horizon joked, "Get it? Because it's small and the thing with the eyes and the... you get it." He said confidently, flashing a sheepish grin at her. "How about a walk?" He asked, leading her away towards the center of town, "Get that food down."
They passed by the recently erected unmelting ice statue and Horizon commented, "Amazing work but I have no idea who that pony is supposed to be. Darn those obscure artists."

Graph arched a brow and shook her head, a small chuckle escaping her. "I think you need to work on that on just a bit." she said, giving him a friendly nudge to the shoulder.
"A walk sounds great, it will get me away from that thing." she walked along side him, enjoying the night. The statue looked pretty in the light, its smooth surface seeming to glow around the edges.
"Not even the slightest clue who it is, but its probably some obscure pony from some old book." she said with a shrug. She spent a lot of time drawing landscapes and ponies she has seen around town. Her favorites where the ponies from other places, to her they all had a different look about them that was fun to draw.

Horizon shrugged, "So what do you say Graph? In on a little adventuring? I'll give you a 101 on defending yourself. And we'll probably have more muscle after last time too." Horizon raised the topic again, taking her to the square, "Where do you live around here?" He asked, looking around to see if he could guess.
The square was quiet and dim in the lights of the few street lamps, there were several benches spread around and long grassy patches on the sides, some with trees and some with flowers. Not as neat as tidy as a city but it was obvious that the Hoofington population was putting effort into the town aesthetics.

Graph paused a little at his question, she had forgotten about it in all the excitement. A sigh escaped her as she looked up at the sky. "As long as I won't be a burden, then I shall join this journey." she said, taking her eyes from the sky to look back at Horizon.
She saw him look around for her home and she smiled, there was nothing that really set her shop/home out from the rest of the storefronts. She planned on changing that when she got a good enough idea for a sign. "Its that little two story one over there." she said, pointing to one that was dimly lit in the downstairs area.
"I leave the downstairs lights on so I don't break my neck walking up and down the steps." she said sheepishly. Remembering her first night in the house. Walking down steps in the pitch dark wasn't the best idea and she had hobbled around for a week on a sore leg.

Horizon grinned at her, "I once sleepwalked off my cloud home when I was a foal. Was too young to fly, so here I am free falling, and I wake up half way between the clouds and the valley." He took a long pause, building up the suspense. "Suddenly whoosh, got saved by a Star who happened to be patrolling around the area. Claymore Razorwing, was a very big pegasus. One of the biggest I've ever seen really. Could probably fit us both on his back." He sighed with reminiscence. Taking a short pause to look at the moon.
"Back in the day the Lunar Mare was still on there, I always thought she was watching me, and sent him to save me." He said fondly, "So he took me to a night time flight around the valley, showed me all of the cool spots, we went over the Everfree, over Ponyville, and circled half the valley. Then when he finally brought me back home, I remember asking him if he thinks I could be a Star one day."
He stopped again, knowing how to space his story, despite the fact he's told it only to several ponies before, "He said no, a sleep walker like me was just a heap of trouble. Then he ruffled my mane and took off. Wouldn't you know it, he was the one I was replacing, gave me my badge himself. He didn't recognize me at first, but when I asked him, 'so, still think I'll be a heap of trouble?' he smiled widely and said, 'I'm even more sure now than I was then.'" Horizon laughed.
"But enough about me, tell me more about you." He said after a while.

Graph listened to his story, a smile on her face as they walked along. She stopped just short of her shops front door. Looking puzzled for a moment."There is not really much to tell."she said, her life was normal, no great stories to tell.
"I was raised on a farm, and I helped both my parents out with it." she said, starting out slow since telling stories wasn't one of her strong points. "I preferred the farm work, that's for sure. Something about cleaning the house and cooking food just irked me. I would rather be out plowing the field and doing all the stuff my father did." she said.
This made her think of her mother, and her frilly pink ways. She loved her, of course, but her mom never understood why Graph would rather go out and tramp around in the mud, than bake a pie or dust the shelves. "I've had nothing but a normal earth pony life." she said with a bright smile. "I may dream of adventure from time to time, but in the long run I wouldn't have it any other way."
