The tail whipped right past Ruby's ear, scratching the top of it, as Ranger managed to dodge a lunge by the creature, landing on his head, but cutting his hooves on the spines. "His underside is the least protected!" He called, "Don't get squashed!"
At that the woodspony bucked at at the side of a spike he was on, once, twice, thrice, but had to then cling to it, as the creature roared, rampaging around to shake Ranger off. Jumping, its legs smashing around, and tail swinging wildly, endangering Ruby.

For one second, it really looked as if the creature’s tail was about to collide with her. Quickly swerving to her side, Ruby continued in charging forward. This time, she had been going in much deeper. At Ranger’s call for her to aim at the green salamander’s underside, Ruby squeezed into the area below its legs.
Directly below the large salamander, Ruby aimed and struck at the creature’s underside. The amount of damage she would be able to inflict upon the creature however, she had absolutely no idea.

The Salamander did not take kindly to Ruby's Dagger, instead of moving away from it, it flattened itself on the ground, crushing the mare beneath him, completely limiting her ability to breath. Ranger knew he had to act quickly, luckily however, when the Salamander flattened down, it activated one of Ranger's traps.
A massive piece of timber swung at the creature from the treetops, sending it rolling off of Ruby, and crushing the side of its head with the sheer force of it. Ranger quickly jumped off of it, to avoid getting skewered by its spines. The salamander was finished, with half of its body paralyzed, all that was left was to finish it off, or let it get away and become prey to other monsters. Ranger chose the latter, hoping it would at least keep other monsters busy for a while.
Rushing over to see if Ruby was okay, he took out a first aid kit. "Are you alright?" He asked, no fractures, only lacerations and stress signs. So it seemed.
But she was not alright, she was devoid of life. The hilt of her dagger had crushed her windpipe and pinched her jugulars, she was dead moments before he reached her. Ranger was horrified, no. Not again, it couldn't be.
Devestated, he turned back to the Salamander, eyes aflame with fury. Why, why does this keep happening to him? Why do ponies die around him? All he could see was red for the longest time, hearing echoes of the outside world, grunts, roars of the salamander, and dull sensations.
When his blind stupor of rage was concluded, the world came crashing down upon him, pain and misery came full force. His legs and hooves were terribly injured, his cloak was in ribbons. In front of him, lay the body of the Green Salamander, as though torn by a wild animal.
The woodspony felt something very cold slither within him when he realized that there were no other monsters around. He had done this, he had attacked the half paralyzed Salamander and killed it, and he did not regret it at all.
Suddenly, a terrible idea sprung in his head, none of his traps were meant to kill. Only scare and discourage. He had much work to do before he could return to Ponyville. So much work...
