NOTE: This thread is a continuation of Beginnings in Froggy Bottom Bog LINK: mlpcelestialdivide.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=eclipsehq&action=display&thread=72 "OW" Yelled Trixie as a stick poked her in the face. She abruptly pushed it out of the way, barely able to see a thing. "Why does Everfree forest have to be SO DARK?" She yelled again to Lieutenant Percheron, who was several feet ahead of her, hovering over the thick brush. Trixie was in the middle of her first assignment, collecting large amounts of Poison Joke for experimenting. And it wasn't going well, at least not for her. Her saddlebags had gotten muddy and full of thorns, and her once sparkling Mage's cape was dirtied and torn in a few places. The crystal given to her by red, however, was perfectly fine. "Are we getting closer to the Joke field??" She once again hollered to Percheron, who seemed to be ignoring her.

"Yes, we are, we'll be there soon." The flying stallion said, deciding it would be best to land next to Trixie, so she won't feel left behind. "So, you're collecting these for experimentation?" He asked the unicorn.
He never liked Everfree, too close together, not enough room for maneuvering. He hated closed spaces, and Everfree sure got as close as a forest could be. With Ursas, cockatrices and other unsavory beasts roaming about, he needed his space. Not that he would be unable to handle himself, but if he had to protect Trixie as well, it might get troublesome.
He certainly hoped they wouldn't encounter the Zebra residing in the forest, she would be a very great nuisance if she would be aware of their actions in the forest. Pondering this, Percheron continued, until a question formed in his mind.
"So, why ARE you so great and powerful?" He asked, not intending to disrespect the mare, which was evident in the tone of the question, but rather to question where the persona itself came from.

Trixie gave an explosive sigh at the question. "If you really must know, all of the ponies in my family have been master magicians." Her tone turned back to that of the more boastful pony she used to be. She still retained some of her traits, though, as it's not just something you can lose after using it for years.
"My entire family has been incredibly GREAT and POWERFUL!! So, through the passing down of the best traits," She gave a small haughty laugh. "It all came down to me, next in the line of the Greatest Magicians in all of Equestria!!" She threw her hooves up in the air as she said this, loving the feel of being triumphant and supposedly superior to everypony else.
"That, my dear Percheron, is why I am so GREAT and POWERFUL." She held her head high as she continued to walk, and ran straight into a tree trunk.
A very loud "OOF" was heard, and then a dulled thud as she fell over and hit the forest floor. "We had better be getting close to that darn plant!" She said with a huff, rubbing her face where she had rammed the tree.

Percheron looked over the sorceress, "Are you alright?" The stallion asked, not overly concerned, but slightly apprehensive. He looked ahead, noting that there still was some distance until the two reached the Poison Joke field, which was awfully close to that Zebra.
"So what do you think of Master Red Charge?" He asked casually, not really probing for information as much as just being curious. He had seen Red Charge turn ponies around entirely before with his words, he was certainly gifted at that, and Red Charge certainly thought high of Trixie. It was natural for him to wonder.

"I'm.. fine." She got up and continued to nurse her face for a few more moments, then blinked her eyes a few times and continued walking.
Her head perked to the side at Percheron's question. "Red? He's quite the pony. Being able to micromanage an entire cult AND construction of all the facilities is quite a feat."
She paused for a moment. "But I can't imagine who else he would go out to find, as he apparently told Watermark to specifically come and find me. It's as if he knew i would readily join him or something." She pushed through some more bush and shrub as she continued talking.
"And I still don't know how he knew my name. I mean, I was a well known pony around Equestria, but that's not the point."

"Red Charge knows many things, it seems to be his specialty. If Red Charge picked you, he must think that you have great potential, and if he thinks that, I am very inclined to believe it's true. We certainly know you have courage and that certain, impressiveness?" The Pegasus wondered aloud, before smiling pleasantly at Trixie,
"I myself am part of a long line of magnificent flyers, Wonderbolts, Stars, all the way. I'm just glad I can live up to my family's reputation as a Razorwing." He puffed up proudly as he spoke his family name, and smiled to himself again. He will make his family proud, he knew it.

Trixie lit up her horn to help see where she was going while listening to Percheron. It was a good idea, as she just saw another low-hanging branch before it was too late, and dipped her head under it.
She intently listened to Percheron about the two flying teams, as she was a fan of them herself, but she froze at the mention of his family name. "You-You're a Razorwing? As in the family of Razorwings that has always flown with the Stars and the Wonderbolts?"
She contained her excitement well, trying not to embarrass herself and let out her secret admiration of the pegasi that fly on those teams. Trixie may be a boastful and arrogant pony, but at heart, she was still a filly, and every filly was smitten for the members of the Stars and the Wonderbolts.

"Yes, Percheron Razorwing, didn't I already introduce myself?" He asked, laughing a bit nervously, he was sure he did! Well, he obviously met her in camp, but did he introduce himself properly? Etiquette was important! Especially for an authority figure like himself, he was representing the Barons!
Pondering that, he himself had headbutted a branch, growling as he backed up and rubbed at his snout, then keeping a level head and walking around it. "So you've heard of my family?"

"Yes, you did introduce yourself in the camp, but you only noted your first name and your rank as a lieutenant." She kept walking, staying clear of rogue branches and gnarled roots sticking up in her path. It was as if the forest was trying to block their path.
Trixie gave a little giggle as Percheron hit the branch, but dutifully shut herself up when he shot a glare at her.
"Why, yes. Almost everypony in Equestria knows about the Razorwings, the famous pegasi family that has always flown on the Wonderbolts and the Stars."
Even though they were well known, Trixie still had one wonder about the Razorwings. "Strange that they wouldn't just stick with one team, maybe the team competitions worked for bragging rights among siblings, I don't know..."
"Speaking of, why aren't you on either of the teams competing to be the best?" She then suddenly remembered why they were even out here in Everfree, "Well, I, I mean uh, other than being in a shady cult laying low in a bog and whatnot, but still. What about your family, don't they wonder where you are?"

"Not... not really." Percheron frowned in reaction to her last question, "I had my time, I was the best, still am, probably... Youngest leader of the Stars, youngest Grand Dogfighting Tournament champion, contests trophies... all the glory days. I used to be the family hero." He stopped walking for a moment, staring at the air in front of him.
"They never took me seriously as a colt, I was too pretty, they said, to be strong. Such a handsome colt could not possibly be made into a fighter. I spent all my life getting to the top, making them proud, just to crash." He admitted, "Honorably discharged from the Stars within serving age, first of all of my family." The stallion's brow furrowed even deeper, "I was pretty much cast out after that, my father won't let me into his house, my brother and sister won't answer my letters. What could I expect, coming from a rich Canterlot family?"

Trixie stopped to listen to him spin his story. "Your family...They just, threw you out? Because you were honorably discharged?? I didn't know something like that was grounds for disowning, thats just shy of illegal orphaning."
Trixie huffed in disbelief. "There's a good reason its called 'Honorably' discharged. No shame involved, or at least there shouldn't be. And your family never took you seriously because you were too pretty... What is this madness?"
She shook her head. "You have to be kidding..." A home and a life in Canterlot, all thrown away because of jerk parents, and his siblings wouldn't even contact him after the fiasco.
Trixie, for some reason or another, wanted to show some sign that she knew how he felt and she cared. She simply extender her hoof and patted him on the back. "Hey, those ponies were jerks. Now you're with better ones, so just try to put all that out of your mind if it hurts or disappoints you and think about the successful future you have with the cult."
She put on the most sympathetic smile she could muster and looked at Percheron for any sign that he acknowledged her.

The stallion nodded, "True," He said, "It made me stronger in a way, more independent, freer." He took a long breath and released a sigh filled with pent up frustration. He knew Trixie was right, but the thought of all of it was still burdening on his heart.
But no, he had a mission to do, and he was going to do it, and stop thinking about that. Dwelling in the past, Red Charge always said, is how ponies miss both the present, and the future. If there was any hope to make Equestria a better place, it was because he was helping Red Charge go through with his plan. So he had to help Trixie as well.
"Thank you, Trixie, I appreciate it." He gave her an honest smile, the only one he was really capable of, and what a miraculous transformation it caused. His face brightened up, and his beautiful visage was now visible.

Trixie just stood there looking at Percheron, somehow captivated by him. She didn't know why or how, but she couldn't take her gaze off him.
The light from her horn began to fade as she lost concentration on the illumination spell, and soon the both of them were plunged back into pitch black.
Surprised by the sudden darkness, Trixie shook her head clear and lit her horn back up, catching Percheron again in the bluish-white light. She almost was caught off guard again, but before she lost her concentration, she quickly looked away, and let out a small nervous laugh. "Sorry about, uh, that.."
She removed her hoof from his back and walked a few paces ahead of him to hide the blush that was materializing on her face. "How far was it until we get to the poison joke field?" She nervously said without turning back to face him.

Percheron looked at her with some surprise, before following, "Not far, should be right over that thicket." He said, pointing a hoof ahead at a large cluster of bushes. Back to business, his keen eyes scanned around, not wanting to get caught by the Zebra, or any other animal for that matter.
Hovering over Trixie and the bushes, he nodded, "Yeah, they're right here, a whole field of them. You better be careful when you store them, don't want any to get on you."

Trixie nodded at Percheron's direction and pushed her way through the brush, getting pricked by thorns and scrapes whilst doing so. But she was determined to get this job over with and back to the safety of her little bunk-hut.
"I-ow.. Think I'm almost-ah..Through." And sure enough, she broke through the other side into a wide field of bluish flower-looking plants.
"WooooooAAAH!!" She hollered in surprise as she fell face down onto about seven of them. "Ooowwww... This can't be good.." She groaned and got back up and brushed herself off, surprised that nothing seemed to have happened to her other than falling over.
"You said.. specifically not to touch these things, right?" She looked up at Percheron, hoping that he hadn't seen what had just happened.
